#GivingTuesday: "For anyone who still feels alone with Trich, you are not alone at all." You really aren't. At least 2 out of 50 people have a BFRB -- and that is a conservative estimate! Yet millions don't know there is help and support available. Help us help others (just come back to facebook.com/tlcbfrb on Nov. 28)!

#GivingTuesday: Gessie will be the first to tell you that her involvement with the TLC Community has made a world of difference in how she copes with having #trichotillomania. Yet, the TLC Community would not exist if it weren't for people like you. If her story inspires you to help others find acceptance and support, mark your calendar for Nov. 28 -- #GivingTuesday -- when Facebook will match your donation to TLC! http://ow.ly/fijx30gA6bR

Body-focused repetitive behaviors like trichotillomania, dermatillomania, & onychophagia are common, affect people all over the world, and cause horrible feelings of isolation and shame. While research to find better treatments is underway, we CAN end the isolation and shame by raising awareness of these disorders. You can help by sharing this video. The BFRB community has come together to say, “#SeeMeStand for BFRBs.” #BFRBweek2017. Learn more about BFRBs, find resources for hope and recovery @ bfrb.org.

There's a saying out there: "The only thing worse than having trich (or for that matter, any other BFRB) is having it alone." As it turns out, this may not be true in all cases. Having a significant other there for support and encouragement can certainly be an advantage to people. No one would disagree. That's why TLC has compiled a collection of articles and resources specifically for significant others, so they can better understand what you're going through. We are so grateful to all of our amazing #BFRBWeek partners this year who helped us promote #SeeMeStand. Meet Lexie Manion, a mental health advocate, who, while not having a BFRB, is showing that she not only supports people who do, but that she also wants to decrease the stigma. Thank you so much for helping us, Lexie - you're an inspiration! #Repost @lexiemanion (@get_repost) ・・・ I partnered with The TLC Foundation for BFRB's this year for BFRB (Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors, such as skin picking, hair pulling, nail biting, etc.) Week, which isn't until October, but @tlcbfrb has been encouraging people to post photos of ourselves this month with the hashtag #SeeMeStand ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Today is this last day to submit photos to be guaranteed a place in their mosaic video of all the photos, so make sure you post by midnight tonight if you'd like to be a part of that! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Their goal this year is to highlight that BFRB's affect people of all different backgrounds, all over the world. To do this, they would like to get the word out about their incredible campaign #SeeMeStand . You do not have to struggle with a BFRB to participate, so this is open to those struggling and also allies (friends, family members, counselors, etc.)! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 2 in every 50 people are affected by BFRB's. Now is the time to take a stand and spread awareness, as many people sadly struggle on their own. The public also often shames those affected. We hope to change this by shedding light on the topic. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I struggle with skin picking (dermatillomania) and I want to let those who struggle with this know that you're not alone, that it's a real issue, and that there's nothing to be ashamed of. My hope is that by speaking up and sharing our stories, that we can continue breaking the stigma around BFRB's. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The link is in my bio for more information/to submit your photos! ❤️

Tomorrow is the LAST day to submit your #SeeMeStand photo to be in this year's #BFRBWeek campaign! Check out this great submission by Millennial Task Force member Michael DeCoursey. We can't wait to see more of your photos! #Repost @mvdecoursey (@get_repost) ・・・ Ok y'all. I've been slackin, I've gotta step up my advocacy game. Here is my entry into the tlc BFRB #seemestand contest. To participate with your own see me stand photo go to www.bfrb.org/seemestand. I spent my summer in sunny (but cold) San Francisco, studying acting at The American Conservatory Theatre. I met so many wonderful people and had a magical time. I learned wonders about my craft. I was proud to represent tlc in SF this summer. When I was a child I chewed my nails uncontrollably until they bled, what's worse I carried such deep and intense shame about it that I hid it from my friends and family. I became so skilled at hiding it that I even hid my BFRB from myself. Looking back on my 26 years, at these photos from this summer.....I hardly know that boy. He's so different from who I've become. Thank you TLC for giving me the microphone for my experience that I so crave. If you suffer from a BFRB you can live every dream your heart desires like me. All you need is an iron will and an open heart. @tlcbfrb #tlc #bfrb #trichotillomania #dermatillomania #excoriationdisorder #advocate #sanfrancisco #pride

It's time to announce the winner of our last #SeeMeStand contest, @natashaotey! We hope you will use your BFRB Awareness Kit to spread the word about BFRBs in your community and help us break the stigma. Thank you so much to everyone who participated in our contest, we can't wait to use your photos in our #BFRBWeek campaign. Remember that we are accepting submissions at www.bfrb.org/seemestand until August 31st. #Repost @natashaotey (@get_repost) ・・・ Having Trichotillomania I ALWAYS thought I was alone or a weirdo growing up, it wasn't until I got older that I realized it was something I could make friends over lol. (Nice ice breaker huh? 😂) . . Though this journey is at times frustrating with random set backs I now have come to love myself for having this little extra part of my personality. It's not shameful. It's just a part of who I am 💖 #SeeMeStand @tlcbfrb

If people with #BFRBs could get control over their behavior, trust us, they would! For this #MythbusterMondays, we're making sure people know that BFRBs aren't habits like chewing on a pen or cracking your knuckles. BFRBs appear in the DSM-5, the diagnostic manual used by mental health professionals, and can be extremely difficult to diminish, especially without proper treatment. #trichotillomania #bfrb #dermatillomania #skinpicking
