MEET THE HAMATOS — a brief overview

💙 LEONARDO (she/her, transfemme bisexual)

Born August 7, 1982, Leonardo is the oldest of her four siblings and the designated leader, a role more or less assigned by her father.

Leo is level-headed, stubborn, and a huge loser. She loves goofing off with her siblings despite being the most prone to getting teased and more or less lets her siblings get away with everything—whether she wants them to or not. She also has an immense desire to make something of herself and help people.

Leo struggles with leadership, a role she never wanted, but bears the weight thinking her siblings need her to guide them. She isolates herself and takes on great burdens, has difficulty admitting her faults, and often stifles her siblings in an effort to protect them.

❤️ RAPHAEL (he/him, transmasc butch lesbian)

Born February 8, 1984, Raphael is the second oldest and twins with Donatello. He’s the designated medic of the team.

Raph is affectionate and high-strung. He’s in touch with his softer side and isn’t afraid to show his love for his family through many kinds of gestures, simultaneously being a playful bully and thee instigator of his siblings. There’s nothing he can’t convince them to do no matter the consequences.

Raph struggles with opening up to outsiders and with exposure of his family to the surface world. He also cannot stand Leo’s leadership in that she is always handling Raph—and their siblings—with kid’s gloves. Raph hates not being trusted or taken seriously. His frustrations often come out in the form of a bitter temper, something he feels guilty about.

💜 DONATELLO (she/him, transfemme nonbinary lesbian)

Born February 8, 1984, Donatello is the third oldest and twins with Raphael. She’s the brains of the operation.

Donnie is inquisitive, passionate, and sarcastic. She’s a daydreamer that loves to learn and yearns to create. He especially loves tinkering with mechanics. As twin to Raph, he goes along with most of Raph’s schemes and especially loves to push Leo’s buttons.

Despite Donnie’s passion for knowledge, she is surprisingly close-minded about humans and is actively distrusting of them. He struggles with a severe anxiety about the surface world and what could happen should they ever be discovered.

🧡 MICHELANGELO (she/any, genderfluid lesbian)

Born March 22, 1985, Michelangelo is the youngest of her siblings. She’s the heart and soul of the family.

Mikey is the most easygoing of the four turtles. She’s rather preppy and loves goofing around. As the baby, there’s nothing they can’t get away with. They’re also the most emotionally intelligent and highly intuitive of the four, mostly regarding people and their emotions.

Mikey struggles with constantly being the peacemaker of the family as well as her immense desire to interact with the surface world. He’s always taking care of his family but craves independence and wishes their family could get along better without her intervention.

🩶 SPLINTER / HAMATO YOSHI (he/him, transhet man)

Born in 1948, Splinter is father and teacher to four teenage mutant ninja turtles.

Splinter is soft-spoken, patient, kind, and affectionate. He is a father first before a teacher. He wants his daughters to have a better relationship with him than he ever had with his guardians growing up. He also makes time to participate in most of the turtles’ hobbies and encourages their interests.

Splinter is deeply traumatized from his mutation and greatly fears the surface world. He is far too overprotective of his children and has instilled a lot of fear and anxiety in them. He’s also extremely secretive and lies often.

Told as a comic book script, Lazarus—or just Laz—is set in 1999, New York City, fourteen years after the turtles’ and Splinter’s initial mutations. Laz is a dark, science-fiction, horror neo-noir following themes of life and death, rebirth and resurrection, and what it means to be human.

disclaimer! while i am a fairly experienced writer i am more familiar with prose and have never written a comic script before. i am taking a screenwriting class currently but that is different from a comic script, so i know the general format but am by no means an expert. i will take a lot of liberties and write as i please but any tips/advice/resources are always welcome. thanks!
