Blue Danube Waltz - Ballroom AU

Teresa, Minho, Gally and Newt meet in Dancing School. They become quick friends and sign up for a debutante ball together.

debutante balls: super strict dress code here, strict rules to follow about etiquette, very formal event, always the same, balls always follow a strict guideline of how the opening ceremonies go. I used to ballroom dance and am happy to answer any questions. In my country it's like a rite of passage to go to dancing school in your youth, hopefully meet new friends there and if you're motivated and very lucky - go to a ball during the season as a debutante. To be accepted to dance there you have to convince the dance choreographer that your Waltzing skills are good enough. If you and your dance partner are accepted, you are obligated to attend all training lessons. There, you'll learn the choreography, everyone is in synch. And then, you have to waltz A LOT. The debutantes dancing is part of the very formal, very long opening ceremony of a ball. The dress code involves: Completely white dress, white or silver dancing shoes and white gloves that reach over the elbows for the ladies, white gloves for the guys, and also shiny shoes, certain type of socks, tuxedo, crisp white shirt. There's always a bouquet of sorts that the girls have to carry during the dance. Those opening ceremonies are legendary and as it is an honor to be part of one, they expect you to smile like crazy for the entire thing. it's a cool, but a bit alien experience BUT you get into the balls for free and ususally can relax in the dancers' cloakroom, bring food and drinks etc. Very good for broke and tired dancers!) it's an experience that I'm glad I made.

The Blue Danube Waltz: Typically, at the end of the opening ceremony at balls, this song is played and the dancing pairs start to waltz. This goes on for several minutes before the host announces "Alles Walzer!" which signales, that the audience is allowed to participate in the waltz as well. Most difficult part is to make it through the minutes until everyone else is allowed to join. You simply cannot stop waltzing, no matter how dizzy or tired you are (this waltz is 11 minutes long!). As soon as everyone else is waltzing, debutantes are allowed to leave the dance floor.

As you can see, there's strict protocol - it's very traditional and for some teenagers it's a real rite of passage. They argue about who is allowed to be in the first rows because they get photogrpahed the most. I experienced one girl in front row being clumsy and getting banned to a different row and she and her dance partner started arguing with the dance master and they cried,...yep all of this happens. They won't let you dance if you don't bring the right kind of gloves, shoes or the right color and length of dress. Imho it's all a little bit ridiculous but it is an experience!

This song is also always the first song played on the radio on January 1st and people waltz into the New Year.)

Gally ist Leadsänger der beliebten Band Berlin Mitte und jeder kennt und liebt ihn. Nur Thomas hat keine Ahnung wer er ist. Die beiden sehr unterschiedlichen Männer treffen bei einem Werbedreh aufeinander und während Gally sich nur nach etwas Ruhe und Privatsphäre sehnt, hat Thomas ein anderes Problem.
