Teresa jerked upright. Her nightshirt was drenched in sweat and her heart pounded against her ribs, like it was trying to break out of its cage.

She couldn’t breathe. Air caught in her throat, choking her, clawing at the inside.

Could you drown without water?

Finally she gasped, a rough, jagged sound that tore itself free with pain, dragging a flood of tears with it. Brushing them away seemed pointless – like trying to hold back a broken dam with a sponge.

She looked over at the door connecting their rooms. He’d been so quiet walking her back – cautious, almost hesitant. She blinked, salt stinging her lips.

Had she even thanked him?

She squeezed her eyes shut, searching for the memory, but her mind was a maze of murky spikes and the bitter tang of death – acrid and inescapable.

Sliding out of bed, she flinched as her bare feet touched the floor. The air was humid – the day's heat still clinging to the night – but her skin shivered all the same. None of her senses were firing properly.

The door between them stood solid. It felt impenetrable. She squinted, trying to look for any sign of life behind it – but she was met with silence and darkness.

Her hand hovered over the small, round handle.

Such a simple thing.

But as her fingers brushed against it, she knew it wasn’t simple at all.

Haven’t yet posted here about my fic, Unspoken Ache, so I guess it’s about time;)

What initially started out as a one-shot attempt at what actually happened with Jane and Lisbon after My Blue Heaven, has suddenly become a bit of a fic and with a half developed plot too.

Two years had been a long time.

He had spent months on end in paradise. Every day was survived by sunsets on the beach with the sand between his toes and the soft breeze to soothe him awake in the early mornings. And it had been nice. Yet each smile that had contently graced his face had faltered in those moments when he saw the spot beside him, vacant of her.

How did Lisbon and Jane handle his return from South America? What didn't we see in the show and what if... what if... what if.

One hand. Five fingers.

He’d joked he could get her there just like that – cue the snap of his fingers. She’d rolled her eyes, tugged her dress back into place, and fixed her gaze on the countryside sliding past – what little she could make out in the dusky shadows anyway. A rare weekend off, and he’d insisted on a road trip through winding backroads in a car he claimed she’d love.

He glanced over. Not even trying to be subtle as his eyes tracked the line of her thighs. The car – vintage, low-slung, with a leather bench seat – was warm beneath her, even as the temperature dipped when the sun went down.

“I’m that easy, huh?” she said, one brow lifting.

“Easy? No. You’re quite complex, actually.”

He kept both hands on the wheel, but they wrung out the leather as he spoke.

“So what makes you think—”

“Take off your underwear and scooch closer.”

I created the Part 1 gifset over 2 months ago and I like to think that my GIF making skills have improved! This is the first gifset I've made with transitions between the text which is so exciting! I also had to keep to the colours I'd assigned to each character in Part 1!
