Social Media at Work: My Opinion
Social media is a great tool that when used appropriately, can be very beneficial. Using social media at work can help change the company experience. I work completely from home and rely on several social media platforms for communication. With the use of Zoom, I am allowed to directly see my co workers and have daily meetings. This allows for us to feel a sense of community, even in the comfort of our own homes. Microsoft Teams is used for message each other. This becomes incredibly convenient when in need of assistance. My job's website is a great way to keep up with the company. Posts are made daily, highlighting important employees and their work. I am able to comment on these posts and share them to my work profile. Discussion boards are created for employees to discuss current topics regarding the company. This is a great way for the entire company, across all states, to engage with each other and create dialogue. All of these conversations are work appropriate and monitored through conversation monitoring. As the book states, conversation monitoring is "the idea of monitoring online activity and emphasizing engagement through responding to comments, reactions and posts by others" (Lipschultz, 2021). All thoughts are opinion based and objective. My job also heavily promotes themself through Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. They encourage the employees to follow them and interact through the comments and live discussions. All of the information is posted by a reputable PR team, which helps the credibility of the information. They create incentives for us to participate and share their information. I think social media can bring people together and can lead to the creation of many ideas.
