The good thing about the ga'hoole fandom is that it's almost non-existent, and most fans are adults with nostalgia for the series, so there is minimal fandom drama if any. We mostly just like sharing art and fanfics and talking about how much we hate the ending too

This requires a strange amount of background but I must share.

So I have a chosen name, and my QPP was around when I named myself. By coincidence I guess, I now share a name with a character from the children's book series Guardians of Ga'hoole. I had never read this series before. I read the first book and decided "yeah, I can live with sharing that name". My partner had read a few of the books when she was younger and thought this was very funny. She decided to reread the whole series for fun after this. For better or worse, these books became her special interest, her first big one in years, but quite unwillingly on her part.

I've been made to promise I'll finish the series at some point and been subject to lengthy conversations and an hour-long slideshow about it. (Side note: she frequently has to, when talking to our other friends about it, differentiate between "[Name]" and "Human [Name]" (me). Why is he not "Owl [Name]"? Don't know, but it's hilarious this way).

She still does not appreciate having a children's book series as a special interest and has been very reluctant to get into fandomish stuff with it. I, on the other hand, think this is all excellent and have been attempting to encourage this. For example, she hated the ending apparently. My obvious suggestion: write fanfiction. She also draws birds anyway, so I keep suggesting she make fanart.

Anyway, I won. She's writing fanfic now. I have no doubt I will be made to proofread it and I am looking forward to it immensely.

Tldr: I accidentally created my partner's special interest by being transgender, she is now writing Guardians of Ga'hoole fanfiction and I am incredibly proud of her.
