Mysteries of the Dwemer pt. 3: Walk-Brass
Numidium is well-known to any student of the Iliac Bay's history, a "giant robot" possessed of immense power. It is at the center of the Warp in the West, by far the most noteworthy event to ever happen in the region. The Septim Empire and the kingdoms of Daggerfall, Orsinium, Sentinel, and Wayrest simultaneously and separately acquired the Mantella and took control of Numidium. Their enemies, not in control of the largest war machine ever produced, were crushed. The golem was also simultaneously destroyed by the Underking, and the event was over in little more than two days. This sort of thing happens from time to time, and is more properly known as a Dragon Break. We will not be exploring these in depth, simply know they are points of history where time no longer flows in a straight line. Many contradictory things may happen at once. What seems likely to happen before it may be totally impossible after. Numidium is closely tied to Dragon Breaks: it caused another in 2E 896 when one of TALOS's mortal forms activated it. It is plain to see Numidium is of Dwemer make. A very large animunculus made of brass that responds to the commands of its owner could hardly have been made by anyone else. TALOS originally received it as a peace offering from the Tribunal, for they knew a war would destroy them. Despite this transfer of ownership, Numidium was not quite theirs to give. It was of Kagrenac's design, of course, but the ownership of Numidium runs deeper than its creator. Numidium is known by many names. You have likely intuited that Walk-Brass is one. It is also known as the Brass God and Brass Tower. Other names are unimportant. I will not explain the Towers, just know there is one for each race of Mer. The Brass God is the Tower of the Dwemer. In this way, it can have no other owner. In this way, it also owns the Dwemer. In another way, it is the culmination of Dwemer reason and logic. Their crown jewel and logical endpoint. The Aurbis is not, as you might imagine it to be, immutable. Truth can be bent by a properly trained and powerful mind, and even broken with enough force. However, something that was true cannot ever be made false after the fact. This is why Dragon Breaks, once resolved, do not appear to have never happened in retrospect. Fundamentally reality is slipshod, an endless chain of "yes, and"s. A culture focused on reason and logic, which seeks to apply stark and rigid rules to all things, will naturally chafe against this. The Dwemer saw reality did not meet their expectations and set about creating their own god to remedy the situation. Numidium was built in Red Mountain, where the Heart of Lorkhan rested. Dwemer tonal architects under High Craftlord Kagrenac and Dumac Dwarfking constructed it around the Heart, with the intent of "fixing" reality. The ultimate goal of Kagrenac, despite what Vivec and others have claimed, was not to gain immortality and godhood. It was to peel through all of reality and find anything that was immutable. An ironclad rule that could be understood with their reason and logic. The history of the Dwemer was an endless repetition of "WHY". By the time of Kagrenac, they had come no closer to answering this question than when they first asked it. He saw only one solution. "WHY" must become "NO". Deny all with enough force, and the truth of existence itself will break. You can then sift through the rubble for a piece that has survived unscathed. That is the ironclad rule. Many Tamrielic scholars will disagree with this. To them I ask: what is more likely to cause a Dragon Break? Simple apotheosis like that of Raymon Ebonarm and Mannimarco, or telling the god of time "you do not exist" so forcefully that he begins to believe it?

So Daggerfall is the only elder scrolls game where you don’t start out as a prisoner and you’re a friend of the emperor and the emperor is like my friend is haunting his old city for some reason find out why and also while you’re there I lost this letter sent to the queen just a side thing but it’s not a side thing and in fact the whole reason he’s sending you to Daggerfall is to track down that letter that got lost but the king that haunts his old city is there too and he tried to run away with his court wizard but he got killed by some guy trying to get rid of witnesses with getting support for his wife to be the heir of another kingdom instead of his wife’s stepbrother so you go to a witch or something and kill some people to find all this out and get his killer killed to death but that’s not the real reason you’re there because actually the letter got delivered to the wrong queen of Daggerfall because the old king’s son took over and married a royal family of a country they were previously at war with so there’s technically three queens of Daggerfall which is the old king’s grandmother, his wife, and the new queen but the letter wasn’t actually for her it was for one of her handmaidens who’s actually a spy for the blades who are like the emperors body guards and personal spies but anyways it never got to her and a maid stole it and sold it to the thieves guild who sold the letter to an orc king who’s trying to get support to make a kingdom for the orcs and he says he’s gonna sell a copy to everyone in the region but what did the letter say well
There’s a sentient remote control that can control a giant robot and the player character finds it but they can’t control it because they’re a dirty commoner and not a royal so you can decide to give it to
Well there’s also the under king. He’s here. He’s undead because he was betrayed by tiber septim a long time ago and he keeps in contact and there’s also manamarko a big necromancer edge lord who wants to become a god
Everyone wants the magic remote control now. The emperor wants it to keep control of the empire the monarchs of a bunch of kingdoms want it to conquer everyone else the orc guy wants it so he can get his people a kingdom the necromancer dude wants to become a god and the under king wants to finally undo his curse and die
But see all of these things happened because there was a dragon break which means find got all weird and everyone got what they want but also the under king and river septim and this other guy ysmir all turned out to be avatars of this dead god named shor or lorkan or something and the dragon break smushed them all three together and made the god talos who only started existing just now but also always existed at the same time so now there’s none divines instead of eight and there’s a necromancer god that lets you trap human souls in a gem but also since every ending happened he’s also just a guy still so there’s two manamarkos and also I’m skipping over some politics drama here but that’s kind of it I think

i keep thinking about how flowey had to construct the very concept of cruelty from the ground up.
not from watching anyone else, not by osmosis, but by cobbling it together himself in the garden where he woke up. alone.
this was a child who fell asleep to his mother's stories, who knew every inflection of his father's laugh. who spent endless golden afternoons with his sibling, both of them doubled over with giggles as they filmed their silly videos, messing up on purpose just to hear each other laugh. again. and again. and again.
so warm. so safe. where the gravest offense imaginable was maybe tracking mud on the carpet.
the worst fear, disappointing people who would love you anyway.
where could he even begin?
save. say these words that once meant comfort, but twist them just so. watch their eyes dim as something inside them breaks. load.
save. make a promise—you remember those, how snug they once made you feel—then shatter it. document exactly how hope crumbles. load.
save. try another combination. another betrayal. watch what splinters differently this time. load.
the world's loneliest science experiment.
look at the cruelty he creates, it's all so personal, specific. so devastatingly asriel.
watch how often he comes back to the idea of being replaced. of being forgotten. how he taunts you with the possibility that none of your relationships matter, that everyone will move on without you. that none of your choices mean anything in the end.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
your fault. your responsibility.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
if only he you hadn't made anyone love him you. If only he you hadn't loved them back.
of course he'd fixate on all that. how could he not? his mother, who used to speak his name like it was sacred, those tender words she reserved for him—for THEM—are now handed out indiscriminately, like candy to anyone who asks.
Tumblr media
all he can do is take note: see how easily love transfers? see how simple it is to fade away?
so, he sneers. taunts you with the thought that it's all dust. you're just another passing face in the crowd. nothing lasts. nothing is worth the weight of caring. but even as he pushes that narrative, as his voice drips with contempt, he is still out there. in the ruins. checking on her.
observing from a distance, like maybe if he watches long enough, his past will solidify into something he can hold again.
flowey develops his cruelty like he's trying to solve an equation. if this word plus this action equals pain, then surely there must be some formula that yields not caring anymore.
Tumblr media
if he'd just gotten it right. if he'd just kept everyone at a distance. if he could just be flowey. save. load. the answer has to be here somewhere.
but how do you quantify the sting of hearing her say "my child" to someone else? how do you account for the absence left in the places where joy once thrived? how do you document, in clinical terms, why you keep watching over people you swear don't matter anymore?
you don't devote yourself to perfecting devastation unless you remember, with searing clarity, what it felt like to be whole.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
you don't give so much of yourself mastering the art of ridiculing attachment unless you're terrified of how much you still have left to give.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
unless every attempt to prove love meaningless just confirms how much meaning it still has for you.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
...point IS! flowey did an interesting job creating his own idea of a bully. it's all pathological. so crudely stemmed from his own sorrows and fears. he's created his own textbook definition of meanness...but then every chapter's just him screaming in a mirror.

The order of disappearance of different characters seemed interesting to me.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1.First, Dess who disappeared one day. Perhaps her disappearance is related to the shelter because she was the one who knew about the code from it, and how one day she was there and never came back.
Tumblr media
2.Then Carol "disappeared" who was most likely shocked by the disappearance of her eldest daughter.
And here's my theory: Carol is very withdrawn into herself. She could not cope with the loss of her daughter and began to look for a way to get her back. She found the code from the shelter on the guitar and went there. And it is this sentence that can confirm that either Carol herself or Dess are a Knight. It could be Dess. Something was the reason why she became like this. Carol was able to find her even before the appearance of Dess's knight form and try to return her back to the light world.
My second possible option: Dess was dead and Carol was able to resurrect her with someone's help. But on the condition that Dess will "change"(because everything has its own price). Carol had no choice but to agree and this led to the fact that Dess not only changed a lot in appearance, but also literally became completely different. Carol didn't care anymore and she just wanted to see her daughter. And as a result, Carol constantly checks her daughter in the shelter and began to constantly depend on some "cult" of the “strange someone”..
3. Asgore "disappeared" next. After numerous "fights", Asgore broke up with Toriel.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
4. Noelle. My assumption is that she left after the incident with "spelling bee". This was a turning point for her, when she began to come to Kris, Toriel and Asriel much less often.
5. Rudolph. Most likely, he decided to spend more time with Noelle and Carol. And then later he ended up in the hospital.
6. Later, Asriel also left. It's already obvious that he went to college.
7. Toriel and Kris themselves also stopped watching TV (at least not as often as before). Many children and adults simply stopped using TV because of the development of technology.
