Also, I wanted to make Makoto Naegi "a matchstick for the other strong characters." In other words, I wanted to make him the only life-sized character among the unique characters. But... the character ran on its own and that's how it turned out. It was the first time I'd ever seen a character run on its own, out of control.

Because of all this, I don't really feel like I created Naegi myself... He doesn't feel like "that character" but more like "that person." It doesn't feel like I created him through calculation, it feels like he was just born into me.

When I think back, things started to change around the line, "I won't get over it. I'll just drag it along and move forward." That line was not in line with my own way of thinking at all. I feel like it was around that time that the person called Naegi was born.

Because Naegi is still alive, I can honestly write about him as if he were a completely different character at the very beginning and at the end of the story, but as the same character. As a writer, I'm usually intimidated by such growth and change, but with Naegi, it didn't bother me at all.

In that sense, he is a special character to me. I thought about creating lines for Naegi, but since it would be completely different depending on which kind of Naegi it is, I thought it would be better not to do it, so I gave up.

Honestly, I feel like Byakuya would act quite different outside the killing game. Like, yes, of course he would still be a self-centered asshole that sees himself as above the rest of the world, but I feel like the killing game only amplified that.

I believe that if he want to Hope's Peak Academy as normal, and finished it as normal, he would've grown quite close to his classmates. And I think that this would happen faster than most people would believe.

After all, it only makes sense for him to act even more cold in the killing game. He's running on his survival instincts, making sure that he survives. But out of that? He would probably be more open to talking to his classmates, even if only because they could prove to be useful to him. At least, in the beginning.

Because Byakuya isn't heartless. He's an asshole for sure, but the killing game is like something he had gone through before. As such, it only makes sense that he acts the same. He's even more cold and distant than he normally would be, because that's the best way to survive in his eyes.

But it would be all different outside of the kg. And because of that, I could also see him interacting with other people than what we saw in canon. Or interact with that in different ways.

something special is born when people write komaeda as difficult to be around in such a way that it continues to upset hinata even after the program. no fucking way hed just be comfortable with being in a romantic relationship, let alone like… fully understand how theyre even meant to function, lmao. think itd take a lot of effort and time for hinata to fully understand the reasons for his actions, and even more to get nagito to stop sabotaging himself and their relationship. to me, theyre set up in a way that kind of necessitates them being a little dysfunctional, at least at first. what with hajime misunderstanding a lot of nagitos actions/statements, jumping to conclusions and never asking for clarification all while komaeda is completely unused to people caring about him and unwilling to accept the idea on a fundamental level? shitd be rough theyd break up like multiple times.
