We need to address the disasters in our country because in the long-run, we would all be affected. Our lives, properties, jobs and businesses will be gone in just a snap if we don’t take the disasters happening today seriously. These are not superficial happenings, these are all going on in our communities, in our country, and we should keep an open eye on that.

Vulnerability, Elements and People at Risk Assessment; Capacity and Disaster Management Assessment
As stated in my previous post, those who live near the river or “’yung mga taga-baba” are most affected by strong typhoons that cause flashfloods because whenever the flood goes as high as “lagpas-tao” they would really have to evacuate and leave their houses along with their belongings.
The members of the barangay are always alert especially during times of calamities and casualties, if ever. They are also able to give food and clothes to those who are affected. Since there is a part of the barangay that looks like a river when flooded, the barangay needs a means of transportation, such as a boat, that can travel through. The lack of manpower and resources of the barangay is one constraint that hinders the fast response on those who need help during typhoons.

Hazard Identification
Barangay Damayan is usually affected by strong typhoons which cause flashfloods especially in areas which are near the river or “’yung mga taga-baba” as we usually call it. To know more about the disaster risk management plans of our barangay, I went to their office but unfortunately, no one from the disaster preparedness committee was available. Still, I got the chance to interview Mr. Mario S. Papa, Jr., the president of the Lupon Taga-pamayapa of the barangay, who is also knowledgeable about the disasters that our barangay faces.
