Alright lovelies, we're gonna have a little chat for a moment here. Please take a moment to read this part. I know a lot of you are feeling ansy and uncomfortable right now. It feels like something that we were hanging on to for a long time for support has suddenly fallen out from under us. That's a valid feeling. Feel it. It's good to feel it. We got this far with #RenewAsACrew, and it's scary to think that support isn't there anymore. I want to point out though, the most important part of that sentence, and that is "WE". #RenewAsACrew was a leadership team that steered us in a direction so that WE could hone our creativity, tenacity, love, support, and unhinged-ness towards our common goal, and you know what? We FUCKING DID IT. WE DID. ALL OF US. This campaign is not just #RenewAsACrew it really is ALL OF YOU. Every single one of you has stepped up and done something to support this campaign, stepped out of your comfort zones, supported each other, and you have accomplished SO MUCH in so little time. We can appreciate #RenewAsACrew, and all they did to help steer us, but we can and we WILL keep going. I know a lot of you have already heard and have even joined the #SaveOFMDCrew that is now stepping up as our navigator. I joined their discord last night, and I have to say, their organisation, passion, communication, problem-solving, is all top notch. They listen to us, the crew, they help provide support, and I have every confidence that they're going to keep us headed in the right direction. So please remember, this is not an end. Take some time tonight, vent your frustrations and fears, and feel them, and then come back tomorrow knowing we're all still here. I'll say it again-- we are not losing ground, we are not losing speed, or momentum, we are pivoting. We are changing course so that we can keep doing what we do best, and that is kicking ass, supporting one another, and fighting for our show and for queer and diverse representation in media. We will get our joy back in some form or another, even if that form is just this amazing found family we've all stumbled into. We got this. Now. Onto the fun stuff.

Jan. 18th

I called (855)442-6629 to express our concern about the OFMD S3 cancellation. I spoke with a lovely lady named Yeta and she submitted my statement verbatim about how this show deserves it’s intended 3rd season. These are some things she told me that would help us continue to get noticed:

1) Keep calling! She said she’s familiar with the show and that there are calls coming in about it.

2) If we talk about how we will unsubscribe and stop committing to Max if the show gets cancelled, then they do take note of that data.

KEEP CALLING AND DONT BE AFRAID TO SAY THAT THEIR NUMBERS WILL GO DOWN IF THIS SHOW IS CANCELLED!!!

UK specific OFMD fans in groups on Tumblr, Twitter and Facebook are trying to come together to push for the BBC to air OFMD Season 2 in the UK since they haven’t done so yet!

So many UK fans can’t actually watch the second season *legally* based off a tumblr poll that @lamentus1 did recently, and a third of fans who voted can’t even watch OFMD because it’s not on in their country!

The most exciting and I think ... brain candy worthy today was Rhys and David posting a BTS picture of Rhys in the colonial hat/outfit. It sparked some interesting ideas on the status of season 3.

I have to say, hats off to the folks over on twitter @fowlfiend for making this connection

Earlier today, Chaos Dad, David Jenkins posted the following picture of Rhys that Rhys shared on his Instagram with a song attached to it called "I'm a Man" by Jobriath.

Now, all well and good right? Rallying cry to all the crew! BUT Twitter folks think there's a deeper meaning and I'm inclined to agree.

How fucking cool is that? Thank you to @lamentus1 for pointing out also that Chaos Dad's post had the "three finger" I love you which is yet another 3 today.

Add to that, Taika's Instagram's been pretty quiet lately, and he happened to post a picture today of his mother-in-law @veraora on IG, which just happens to have... 3 pigeons in it. Once again, thanks @lamentus1 for bringing this to our attention.

Now, could all of this be just coincidence? Sure, but where's the fun in that? Seems like we're going on a treasure hunt.

What a day, am I right? I'm just making a bulleted list to remind myself of these goings on, and make some uneducated speculations that will be proven wrong! I'm in clown mode; I need it to make sense. I write these thoughts just for me.

Casey Bloys did say multiple rubbish things today, but it really points to us annoying them. So we should keep it up! 🥰 In the end, I don't think OFMD is staying with Max (which is good!), but we should keep up the noise to show OFMD's value to other platforms and just to annoy Bloys and Zaslav!

Long bullet list:

OFMD S3 was in preproduction, we're mostly sure of that. It explains the vague posting of the cast and crew in the week before the sudden cancellation. If it actually didn't have "the numbers", it would never have made it to this step.

The Emmys were last night, and the WBD/Max socials were posting dozens of posts across the platforms that OFMD fans were able to keep up with. It was exhausting! And OFMD keeps coming up in Emmys interviews that Bloys is doing. We'll be able to annoy them more efficiently once they slow down!

"I need Gay Twitter to come out and support Gilded Age," Bloys said in an interview released this morning. This is a completely nonsensical statement, and we don't have the context or tone to tell if he's serious or joking. Given the "No more OFMD on Max!" at the end of the day, I think it was serious. OFMD is all queer, and from what people said, Gilded Age has a forgettable gay side plot? That makes them the same? Do they think stepping back in representation is appealing? WBD/Max does not understand why OFMD is successful and think that lazy, minimal representation has the same resonance

"Gay Twitter": What I think is they want to keep a large, excited, and engaged fandom intact as they remove the thing they're excited about. This honestly feels like a desperate, quick band aid on a problem that Max was not expecting: they like the engagement, and they were planning to keep it. They had OFMD taken from them rather abruptly, and after years of purging queer shows, they had no show that they could slide the fandom into and retain the massive, free marketing. Because it feels abrupt to them, that's why I think it was David Jenkins that walked away from them, not a "the numbers" BS.

Why would Jenkins walk? More slashed budget, more slashed runtime, more executive meddling like what happened in Calypso's Birthday. At this point, I don't want Max to renew OFMD. I want OFMD to go to a different platform that isn't a dumpster fire.

Until tonight, I did not know that Casey Bloys is gay. I understand less now. He has to give the company line, but how much was him? Is Gilded Age his favorite show?

I will never watch the Gilded Age

Astroglide came to our rescue soon after the Gay Twitter thing, and David Jenkins made an appearance! In a second comment, he may have used the past tense, but that's what he has to do right now.

On engagement, if the cast and crew were really, fully done with OFMD, they'd be posting more retrospective material on their socials because this is the biggest thing most of them have done, and they need to advertise themselves in their profession. They're quiet. Rhys posted thirst traps after a few days. Alex Sherman was liking renewasacrew items today. DJenks showed up to joke about lube. Vico and Con posted on their insta stories the PinkNews headline that OFMD deserves an S3. They are all very, very quiet right now.

Bloys showed up late in the day with another banger: "Nobody likes to cancel a show. But the fact of the matter is the numbers weren’t there for a renewal. But I will say, whenever we cancel a show, if a creator can set it up elsewhere, we support them. That is an option for Our Flag; it didn’t make sense for us but it might be for someone else. We let the producers know if they can find a home, we’ll be supportive of that."

If pressed for what "the numbers" mean, they won't be able to answer. It's sure to become a common refrain with trolls, but it is a nothing phrase. We know the audience numbers, the critical reviews, the engagement, and the budget were perfect. "The numbers" either mean "not enough white straight cishet" or "won't be a franchise milked into oblivion."

"If a creator can set it up elsewhere..." Jenkins is totally in talks right now. There is no way this is going to be passed on by a stable platform.

I hope the situation that happened with Acme vs Coyote is happening again with TV shows: i.e., WBD/Max cancelled a product for no reason, so all studios should be cancelling pitch meetings with them. WBD/Max is failing and cannot support to nurture original ideas.

I know moving platforms will cause an OFMD S3 delay, but that just means more time until the last episode! Since OFMD actually has "the numbers", they're going to be picked up.

We got #hbdzaslav (happy birthday, zaslav) trending yesterday on his birthday, and I bet he didn't even appreciate it!

Everyone, I just talked on the phone to an absolute ally at Max, and they gave me extremely useful information! We need to be calling WAY more. It's a higher impact that most other things we can do. Here's the phone number: (855) 442-6629. But read on if you want to know WHY.

Every time Max receives a customer feedback call, that information is logged in the system. The info, *including all the details* is pushed to a server that relays it to the higher ups. They don't just get a tally of calls and general opinions—they get the full feedback.

And it's not just higher-ups at Max. Per the service rep, "it's actually read by the higher ups who are in charge of what happens within Warner Media/ Discovery."

The rep also suggested that particular types of feedback, especially those around DEI, might bear extra weight. They had to be a bit cryptic for job reasons, but they made this very clear.

Moreover, the call does not need to be associated with a Max account. They ask for an email but don't triage based on whether that email has a subscription. E.g., if you're outside the US and watch elsewhere, you can still call, and your feedback will still go up the chain.

In fact, the rep was very clear to encourage ALL people with feedback to call individually. And to keep calling! I asked whether multiple calls from the same person make a difference, and the answer was a clear yes bc the feedback gets shared as it comes in, not batched.

It's also worth noting that phone calls in general are always higher-impact than letters, online engagements, etc. This is true for political campaigns, and it's true here. There's a real cost to having people answering phones. It takes time, which equals $$.

So: Call. I know it sucks; I hate the phone too. If you have phone anxiety, you can also delegate to a friend and have them provide your name and email. If you *don't* hate making phone calls, ask friend for permission to call on their behalf!
