sometimes it seems like people are upset if something didn’t traumatise you

we shouldn’t judge people based on their sexual fantasies. We be smart enough to understand know the difference between fantasy and reality and we shouldn’t make assumptions about someone’s real life behavior just because they mentioned having a certain kink. but if someone says they like cozy farming sims then they definitely support ethnic cleansing.

it would be fine if i could say: i don’t know why i started doing that, then the only cost would be that i did something kind of silly for so long for no reason and am now stopping? giving up? BUT you also risk people reading into your motivation with reasoning significantly more impugning than idk
Somewhere out there is a guy with a bear trap on his head because it’s been on there for years and if he took it off now people would be like “Hey, you got rid of the bear trap! What prompted this?” and he won’t have a perfectly rational answer.

this is me with some things i started doing irrationally but stopping doing would call attention to that and leave me with no reasonable answer

i also haven’t seen primitivists but where are you seeing:
most of that critique coming from a basically modernist standpoint of concern for human autonomy, the integrity of the individual subject, and the fulfillment derived from organized human activity directed towards socially useful ends
i’m mostly seeing butlerian jihadis who seem to be more concerned with ai not having a soul than it corrupting the soul of man and also Walt Disney’s strongest soldier-illustrator
i would be interested in reading critiques in the vein described if i was aware of any
Tumblr media
Okay haha very silly but Marx also says this:
Tumblr media
For emphasis: "[I]t is not the workman that employs the instruments of labour, but the instruments of labour that employ the workman. But it is only in the factory system that this inversion for the first time acquires technical and palpable reality."
Like he basically seems to have a Schillerian critique of industrial capitalist labor in this chapter where industrialization forces a kind of specialization that's smoothing us out. Plus there's some alienation stuff here that he seems generally extremely worried about. Granted I'm not a Marx expert who can give a clean reconstruction of his whole system, but I don't think it's entirely stupid to think someone could channel Marx like this.

after writing these tags on a post re: whether it's reasonable to expect people to know the population of Iran of course i had to do it so. have a poorly-made randomly-generated 10 country quiz where you guess the population of each country in millions :) scroll down once you have guessed to get your average error. are you better than me at this? are you better than a US senator? is this a fair way of measuring knowledge? not at all because with only 10 countries you could easily just get unlucky and get a bunch of "hard ones." too bad.

what’s the flaw in joking about wigan? (wigan and tulsa are equally fictional to me tbh)
There are two ways to Wigan, by land or by sea. Those who approach Wigan by land will see it's chippies as the trunks of tall ships, it's gravy as citrusy tartar spiced with treasured herbs of far off lands. Those who approach Wigan by sea will view it's chippies as soaring concrete car parks, iron locomotive bridges, and comley promenades, it's gravy will be that of inland country fare, of rustic mushroom, aliuns, apples, and all the tastes of home.

Perhaps police departments should be mostly staffed by part-timers. This way everyone also has a different normal job and thus are part of the community. In this way, the police are less likely to develop their own unique values different from the community. And thus, the state enforcing unpopular laws becomes more difficult (moreover since everyone has a second job, they can more easily just quit if they don't like what they are ordered to do). And with all the people it is harder to develop a culture of corruption. Perhaps, it could be a two weeks out of the year thing, if that works nicer with people's schedule. We want as many people to be policemen as possible (in fact, for police jobs that don't require physical stress, we should abolish any health requirements). Maybe, police work should be part of the gig economy. We need more good paying gig economy style jobs. Imagine the delight in giving the person who arrested you a low rating on the app afterwards.
