What are Euro Containers?
Designed around a standard 600 x 400mm footprint, plastic Euro containers integrate with common pallet sizes, manual handling equipment and many automated systems. As the name implies, they are the common crate size for use throughout Europe, including the UK.
Euro containers are available in a wide choice of heights from shallow trays to tall crates. Many ranges include half-size versions, with a base size that measures 400 x 300mm, and quarter size models of 200 x 150mm. Totebox also supplies double-size Euro stacking containers with an 800 x 600mm footprint.
Euro containers stack snuggly on both Euro and UK pallets. The containers’ 600 x 400mm footprint stacks in four columns on 1200 x 800mm Euro pallets and in five columns on 1200 x 1000mm UK pallets. Euro containers also integrate with standard handling and storage systems, such as wheeled dollies, shelving units, live storage systems and conveyors.
Euro containers are available in five standard formats: stacking, 180O stack-nest, ALCs (attached-lid containers), produce crates and folding models:
Euro stacking containers
Euro stacking boxes have vertical sides that provide a larger internal storage capacity than 180O, ALCs and produce crates; all of which have tapered sides to facilitate nesting.
Totebox Euro stacking containers allow users to create modular handling and distribution units as containers of different base dimensions inter-stack to form compact loads. 400 x 300mm models stack 2-up (side-by-side) on 600 x 400mm containers, which in turn stack 2-up on 800 x 600mm containers.
Euro stacking containers are available in both solid and ventilated formats. Ventilated stacking crates are widely used for food handling applications because the vented sides promote airflow in fridges & freezers, which help the contents to reach the desired temperature quickly.
Common accessories for all types of Euro container include lids, label holders and dollies.
180O Euro stacking and nesting containers
Designed for efficient distribution operations, Nesting containers nest inside each other when empty to save valuable space on return transport or when not in use.
180O nesting boxes are tough crates that securely stack when loaded and nest when empty by turning through 180o. It is a simple, robust design that is ideal for heavy-duty applications.
  Attached lid containers
Designed to protect high-value and high-risk products in transit, ALCs include integral hinged lids that can be fitted with tamper-evident security seals.  The containers stack with lids closed and nest with lids open.
  Produce crates
Produce crates, also known as Supermarket crates or bale-arm trays, incorporate stacking bars that are pushed inwards to stack and outwards to nest. These crates are used throughout the food supply chain from field or food processor to retail point-of-sale.
  Folding containers
Plastic folding crates aim to provide the best of both worlds; vertical sides provide the large internal volume of Euro stacking containers while folding flat to save space when empty.
But there are however a number of constraints that should be taken into account. Folding crates are time-consuming to assemble and fold, there are more moving parts that make the boxes susceptible to damage and they tend to be less strong than stack-only or stack-nest models. Folding boxes are consequently ideal for less-intensive lightweight distribution applications.

Benefits of plastic pallets for distribution and export
Since January, post-Brexit trade rules mean that wood pallets and pallet boxes used for moving goods between Britain and the European Union, as well as between Britain and Northern Ireland, must meet the global ISPM 15 safety standards. Under the standard timber, packaging has to be heated or fumigated to kill wood born pests and diseases and then stamped with a mark of compliance.
These regulations are prompting many distributors to consider plastic pallets and plastic pallet boxes as a practical and cost-effective alternative to traditional timber pallets.
Exempt from ISPM 15, plastic distribution pallets and plastic bulk boxes offer users a number of additional advantages over timber pallets for distribution and export.
Although initially more expensive than wood, plastic pallets can save money through longevity and by eliminating repair and maintenance costs. Nestable plastic pallets incorporate hollow tampered feet that allow pallets to nest when empty, saving valuable space on return transport. Folding plastic bulk containers fold flat for the return trip.
Plastic export pallets and bulk boxes also eliminate the risk of being held up or refused entry at customs due to a missing or incorrect export packaging declaration document.
From the hygiene, health and safety perspective, plastic pallets and plastic bulk containers win hands down over their timber alternatives. They are free from nails, splinters & metal shards that could damage the load or injure personnel. Inherently hygienic and easy to clean, they will not absorb moisture or contaminants and are not prone to splintering, rust or other possible sources of contamination.
Plastic pallets and bulk containers include design benefits that enable faster and safer handling operations. Bevelled runners allow easy access by pallet truck rollers, while curved corners on feet help deflect accidental knock from forklifts. Some models of plastic pallets also include a load retaining raised edge.
Plastic pallets and bulk containers have a constant tare; they will not absorb moisture and so maintain a constant weight. This helps users to accurately weigh goods on the pallet and ensures that they do not either over-deliver or short change their customers.
Available in more attractive colours than timber, many plastic pallets can be printed with the owner’s name and corporate logo. Textured areas allow the removal of adhesive labels without leaving a sticky residue. Recessed areas protect permanent labels and bar codes from becoming defaced or accidentally removed.
Reusable, and recyclable at the end of their long working life, plastic pallets and bulk containers also help users to meet their environmental objectives.
Totebox offer a range of plastic nestable export pallets in 1200 x 1000mm, 1200 x 800mm and 800 x 600mm sizes. They also supply a number of folding and rigid plastic pallet boxes.

Ways to transform your stockroom into an efficient space
Whatever the size of your stockroom, it is likely you can increase storage capacity and improve accessibility without having to expand the storage area. Totebox explain how plastic storage containers and handling accessories optimise storage density and make finding items faster and easier.
Clearing out items and packaging materials that have not been used for years should be your first step to improving storage efficiency. It will probably create significant additional storage space from the outset. Consider whether you are likely to need any item over the next twelve months; if not, then it is unlikely to be earning its keep.
Careful planning will help you to create an efficient stockroom. Time spent picking orders, like all warehouse operations, is proportional to cost. A well organised stockroom will save you money.
Applying the 80/20 rule, it is likely that 20% of stored items represent 80% of picking activity, so frequently used items should be kept within easy reach.
Plastic stacking containers are ideal for maximising storage capacity. They are less expensive than most shelving units and provide denser storage, with boxes stacking on top of each other to form a compact storage unit – meaning that you can pack away much more stuff.
Plastic containers are also far more versatile than fixed units. They can be easily moved and reconfigured to suit your changing or seasonal storage needs.
Avoid part filled containers, use small containers for smaller or less frequently required items. Totebox Euro stacking containers allow users to create modular compact storage units with smaller containers stacking 2-up (side-by-side) on larger models. Totebox containers are available in a choice of colours, helping you to colour code items by theme.
Identification and accessibility are key to speedy picking. Store items that are frequently picked together next, or close, to each other.
Many operations use adhesive labels to identify contents, these can leave a sticky residue when removed which can become unsightly and make further labels hard to spot amongst the mess. Some Euro containers feature textured areas for the easy removal of temporary labels without leaving adhesive residue. Totebox also supply a card clip, which simply clips onto the container rim, making it easy to see and replace non-adhesive labels.
Open front stacking Euro containers provide instant access and allow easy identification of contents.
Open-front storage bins allow easy access to smaller items needed to complete an order, for example accessories and fixings. They can be hung off louvered panels situated at the ends of pallet racking, so that items stored in the bins are relevant to the goods held in the adjacent racking bay.
There are many types of plastic containers on the market and they vary greatly in quality. Plastic storage containers commonly sold at popular retail outlets may be relatively inexpensive but they tend to break after a short time and cannot be stacked particularly high, presenting a potential safety risk if they are carrying anything but light loads. Heavy duty storage boxes stocked by Totebox, are designed for tough storage and handling operations in factories and warehouses where they typically carry unit loads approaching 20Kg and are stacked up to ten high. They cost a little more, but should last a lifetime.
Wheeled dollies are nimbler and often faster than using a pallet and pump truck, they take the back-ache out of carrying full crates and enable heavy loads to be effortlessly wheeled under, and out from, shelving or a work bench. Totebox supply both single and double size-dollies, which carry one or two columns of stacked Euro size containers. A dolly handle will allow users to pull (instead of push) loaded dollies, allowing them to load the dolly higher as there is no need to see over the top when pulling a load.
Having completed your stockroom makeover, keep it clean. A tidy stockroom encourages others to keep it free from clutter, and helps to prevent accidents.
If you would like to find out more about how we can help you, get in touch today on 01327 340 177 or head over to our contact page for more details.

Plastic Storage Boxes vs Cardboard
Totebox take a look at the cost and environmental benefits of plastic containers over cardboard boxes for storage and distribution.
  Reducing packaging waste
Reducing packaging waste in the supply chain is a key benefit of plastic crates, helping users to reduce both costs and carbon footprint.
Because plastic boxes can be reused repeatedly over many years, each individual container has the capacity to replace hundreds of single-use cardboard boxes over its long life.
Plastic containers also allow users to reduce, and in some cases eliminate, packaging sundries. Unlike cardboard, plastic boxes require no taping or stapling and stack securely on pallets, reducing the need for stretch wrap or banding.
  Lowering distribution costs
Although initially more expensive than cardboard, reusable plastic transit containers have a long life expectancy which usually exceeds seven years, with many still in use after several decades. Most plastic crate users report a payback period of between one year and 18 months when replacing cardboard so, after seven plus years, the financial savings can be enormous.
Plastic crates are available in three formats: stacking, nesting and folding. All three designs stack when loaded, but the nesting and folding models also nest inside each other or fold flat when empty to save valuable space on return transport.
Many models of plastic boxes include lids to protect contents from the elements. Plastic attached-lid containers (ALCs) fitted with tamper-evident security seals deter theft of valuable or high-risk contents and prevent deliberate contamination.
  Increasing warehouse efficiencies
Plastic stacking containers are ideal for internal storage. Unlike most carboard boxes, the strength and uniformity of plastic boxes provide a level platform for multiple pallet loads to be blocked stacked on top of each other. This can free up a significant area for additional storage.
Many cardboard boxes are time consuming to assemble and need to be stretch-wrapped ready for despatch. Plastic crates securely interlock when stacked, reducing the need for stretch-wrapping. Users are therefore able to significantly reduce their marshalling and packing area, creating even more storage space.
Some plastic container models are manufactured to precise dimensions with minimum flex to operate smoothly with automated handling equipment including robot handling, automated storage and retrieval systems, pick and place equipment, etc.
  Meeting health & safety requirements
With ergonomically shaped and positioned hand-holds, plastic containers are designed for safe manual handling. Unlike cardboard there are no sharp edges or staples that can cause injury and there is no requirement for a sharp knife to open boxes.
Plastic boxes with lids are weatherproof. Rain reduces cardboard’s structural strength, making stacked loaded trays liable to collapse, risking damage to contents and injury to personnel.
Carboard can generate large amounts of dust which adheres to oiled machinery, leading to additional maintenance costs, and presents respiratory issues for employees. Plastic containers provide a clean and safe working environment.
  Improving manufacturing efficiencies
Plastic trays have a constant tare which means that their weight remains constant. This is important if you are weighing produce in the trays by ensuring that you do not either over deliver or short change your customers. Cardboard absorbs moisture, so is liable to fluctuations in weight.
Often manufactured in food-grade material, plastic trays’ smooth surfaces and curved corners are inherently hygienic and easy to clean.
  Summary
There are many types of plastic containers on the market and they vary greatly in quality. Plastic storage containers commonly sold at popular retail outlets may be relatively inexpensive but they tend to break after a short time and cannot be stacked particularly high, presenting a potential safety risk if they are carrying anything but light loads. Industrial strength plastic containers, such as those stocked by Totebox, are designed for tough storage and handling operations in factories and warehouses. They cost a little more, but last for many years.

6 ways to use plastic storage box containers
There’s so much more to plastic containers than simply storage. Totebox lists the six top uses for plastic crates, discussing design features and highlighting the benefits.
Ways You Can Use Plastic Storage Boxes
Reusable transit packaging
Nesting and folding plastic distribution containers are often referred to as reusable transit packaging (RTP). They provide an economic and environmentally friendly alternative to single use or limited trip cardboard boxes.
Plastic stacking & nesting crates securely stack when loaded and nest when empty to save valuable space on return transport. There are three types of stacking & nesting containers:
180 o nesting boxes are tough distribution containers that securely stack when loaded and nest by turning through 180o. This simple, robust design is ideal for heavy-duty applications.
Bale-arm crates, such as Maxinest produce trays, incorporate stacking bars which are pushed inwards to stack and outwards to nest. These crates are used throughout the food supply chain from field or food processor to retail point-of-sale.
Attached Lid Containers (ALCs) include integral hinged lids. They stack with lids closed and nest when open.
Reusable, tough and durable, each individual plastic distribution crate can replace hundreds of single-trip cardboard boxes over its long life – helping users to save money and reduce their carbon footprint.
Plastic folding boxes fold flat to provide an even greater space-saving alternative to nesting containers. However, folding crates are time-consuming to assemble and fold, there are more moving parts which make the boxes susceptible to damage and they tend to be less strong. Folding boxes are consequently ideal for less-intensive lightweight distribution applications.
Secure tamper-evident distribution
Attached Lid Containers (ALCs), including the Original Totebox, include integral hinged lids that can be secured with tamper-evident seals.
Fitting tamper-evident security seals protects high-value goods in transit. They work by providing easy visual identification of whether the container’s contents have been accessed during distribution; if the seal is broken then the container has been opened.
Storage and handling
Stacking boxes are perfect for internal storage and handling operations. Their main benefits are storage volume and simplicity of use.
Plastic stacking crates, containers and trays have vertical sides for maximum internal volume. They usually have around a 7% larger storage capability than a stacking & nesting container with the same external dimensions, which have tapering sides to facilitate nesting.
Totebox Euro stacking containers allow users to create modular handling units with containers of different base dimensions inter-stacking to form compact loads. 400 x 300mm models stack 2-up (side-by-side) on 600 x 400mm containers, which in turn stack 2-up on 800 x 600mm containers.
Unlike most carboard carriers, the strength and uniformity of plastic boxes provide a level platform for multiple pallet loads to be blocked stacked on top of each other. This can free up a significant area for additional storage.
Order picking
Many warehouses spend a great deal of operational time taking items to a central marshalling area for packing. Items are picked, loaded onto a pallet, transported to the packing area where they are packed into cardboard boxes, loaded onto another pallet which is then stretch-wrapped on a turntable ready for despatch.
Cardboard boxes are time-consuming to assemble while pallet turntables take up several square meters of warehouse space.
An alternative solution is to load items for despatch directly into reusable plastic stacking boxes during the picking operation, eliminating the need to repack. Containers securely interlock when stacked (the base is recessed by about 1cm to locate snuggly into the top rim of the container below) which means that only a single band or a couple of turns of stretch-wrap is required to secure the pallet load.
Most operations who use reusable plastic containers reduce costs by speeding up the packing operation, eliminating the need to consumables (such as adhesive tape, banding and stretch-wrap) and reducing the size of the packing area which can be repurposed for additional warehouse storage space.
Automated handling
Plastic totes and containers are the ideal handling solution for automated systems such as conveyors, automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS), robot handling/pick & place, carousels and scanning equipment.
Strong and rigid with robot handling locations, Totebox KLT containers are purpose-designed to operate with automated handling equipment.
Kit boxes
Both plastic stacking crates and attached-lid containers make great kit boxes for engineers and many services. Applications include maintenance engineers, police scene of the crime, hospital CSSD, etc.
Plastic boxes can be clearly labelled to identify contents, feature ergonomic handles for safely carrying heavier loads and can be fitted with security seals to protect valuable or sensitive contents.if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us on 01327 340 177 or alternatively head over to our contact page to fill in our online enquiry form.

The Environmental Benefits of Reusable Supermarket Crates
Plastic supermarket crates address growing demands from retailers to eliminate packaging waste and reduce environmental impact.
What are the benefits of reusing supermarket crates?
The Totebox range of supermarket crates (also known as produce trays) provides an environmentally friendly solution for transporting chilled and frozen produce, as well as general grocery items at an ambient temperature.
Reusable supermarket crates stack securely on bale-arms and nest together to save valuable space on return transport. They’re used extensively by food processors, retailers, food service companies and logistics operations.
The environmental benefits of reusing crates come from reducing both packaging and food waste. Additional benefits are gained through improved operational efficiencies; saving you time and money.
Reducing transit packaging
Increasing awareness of environmental issues means that customers require reassurance that both product and packaging are environmentally responsible. Many companies are addressing this by creating closed-loop systems that adhere to the philosophy of organisations like the Carbon Trust of reducing: reuse and recycle.
Environmentally friendly supermarket crates tick all three boxes. Because they’re reused repeatedly over many years, each individual reusable plastic container could replace hundreds of single-use cardboard boxes. They’re also 100% recyclable, making new from old, at the end of their long service.
Environmental assessments have found that reusable supermarket crates are more carbon-efficient than single-trip cardboard trays after just 20 trips. The findings took into account the full life cycle of the crates including raw material production, manufacturing, customer use (including transport and crate washing) and disposal or recycling at the end of its working life.
With a life expectancy of upwards of seven years in continuous use, Totebox plastic containers could provide a substantial reduction in a user’s environmental footprint.
When replacing single-use packaging with reusable plastic containers, most users find that they’re saving money within one or two years. So, after seven-plus years, these savings can be enormous.
Reducing primary and sundry packaging waste
Supermarket crates allow users to reduce the amount of both primary packaging and packaging sundries from the supply chain.
The protective nature of reusable plastic crates means that many fruit and vegetables can be distributed loose, with little or no additional packaging or protection. Reusable plastic trays require no taping or stapling and stack securely on pallets, eliminating the need for stretch wrapping or banding when fitted with a pallet lid.
Eliminating or reducing primary packaging and packaging sundries provide further cost and environmental savings.
Reducing food waste
Food waste along the supply chain is a major contributor to increasing the carbon footprint. Totebox supermarket crates and produce trays have been designed to maintain their quality throughout the journey from grower or food manufacturer to retail point-of-sale.
Design features include ventilated sides to aid airflow (speeding cooling and helping to maintain a constant temperature), curved corners and smooth sides (protect produce from knocks and bruising), while secure stacking prevents the loss caused by a pallet load collapsing during transit or handling by forklift.
Increasing longevity and preventing loss of fresh produce means that there is less waste, so more produce survives the journey from field fork; further reducing carbon footprint and saving money.

Declutter Your Home This Spring
With the lockdown in full swing, many people are taking the opportunity to declutter their home. Here at Totebox, we’re going to share a few ideas to help you tidy your house and keep it clutter-free.
There are many benefits to clearing a room of clutter. Organising your home becomes easier, tidying is faster, and things are quicker to find. Small items are less likely to be lost and it could also generate cash for yourself. As well as help you to support local charities!
Organise With Storage Boxes
Before you start, set some ground rules. For example:
Get rid of clothing that hasn’t been worn or any item that hasn’t been used in the last twelve months.
Don’t be tempted to keep things that may prove useful in the future if you haven’t needed them before.
Consider whether ornaments, books, CDs, etc really bring you joy?
Clear out duplicate tools, kitchen equipment, etc.
Daunted? Go room by room, but start in cupboards and wardrobes as making space here will provide storage space for things you want to keep.
How to Use Storage Boxes
Strong plastic storage boxes are ideal for both the sorting operation and for future storage. Use at least four large plastic storage boxes in each room for sorting into items to “keep”, “trash”, “donate”, or “sell”.
There are two standard container designs that have been adapted for home use: stacking & nesting containers and stacking crates. These boxes will serve you well for the decluttering operation and provide compact organised storage to help you keep your home tidy in the future. They’re less expensive than most shelving units and other traditional storage options. With a little planning, they will also provide denser home storage – meaning that you can pack away more things.
Attached-lid stacking & nesting containers securely stack with lids closed and nest inside each other with lids open, so they are themselves easily stored when not in use. They are great for temporary uses, such as decluttering the house. As well as for permanent storage. Totebox manufactures their famous Original Totebox attached lid containers in the UK.
Stack-only models, such as Totebox Euro stacking containers, allow users to create modular compact storage units with smaller containers stacking two-up (side-by-side) on larger models. This enables you to create storage themes such as ‘holiday’, ‘Christmas decorations’, ‘garden’, etc. With smaller or more fragile items packed in separate containers and then all the containers in the theme stacked into a compact storage unit. Containers are available in a choice of colours, helping you to colour code items by theme.
Plastic storage boxes with lids protect the contents from rain and dust. Lids are available for all Euro stacking containers and some models incorporate an attached hinged lid.
Industrial strength plastic containers, such as those stocked by Totebox, are designed for tough storage and handling operations in factories and warehouses where they typically carry unit loads exceeding 20Kg and are stacked up to ten high. They cost a little more but should last a lifetime.

The Top Storage Containers
Whether tidying up toys, packing away power tools or heading off on an adventure, plastic storage boxes can help you make the most of available space in your home or business.
Totebox takes a look at some practical space-saving domestic applications for plastic storage boxes.
Clothing
Plastic boxes are ideal for storage of seasonal clothing, helping you to save space in your wardrobe and chest of drawers – and freeing space for even more outfits!
To prevent musty smells developing, wash and thoroughly dry your clothes before storage. Rolling clothes up prevents them from creasing and saves space. Smooth out the clothes’ wrinkles as you fold and roll. The plastic containers can then be stored away on your wardrobe’s top-shelf or up in the attic.
Use plastic containers with lids to keep out damp and protect contents from moths and other pests.
Kitchen storage
Plastic storage containers are perfect for storing lesser-used kitchen utensils, electrical equipment, crockery, and glassware. Plastic is hygienic and easy to clean, but you should ensure that items are clean and dry before storage.
If storing away from the kitchen, label the boxes “fragile” and consider wrapping plates and glasses in tissue paper. Additional packaging material, such as bubble wrap or newspaper, is recommended for moving house or when going on a picnic.
Plastic boxes can be used for storing dry ingredients, such as bagged flour, sugar, dry fruit, etc. Use boxes with lids to protect contents from moisture and pests.
DIY tools
Plastic stacking containers provide versatile and convenient storage for power tools, nuts & bolts, and other equipment. They are less expensive than most shelving units and provide denser storage, with boxes stacking on top of each other to form a compact storage unit, meaning that you can pack away more items in limited space.
Totebox Euro stacking containers allow users to create modular compact storage units with smaller containers stacking 2-up (side-by-side) on larger models. Totebox attached lid containers are great for items that need to be security protected. They stack with lids closed and nest with lids open to save space when empty.
Children’s play boxes
Plastic attached lid containers, such as Toteboxes, are also ideal for storing children’s toys. Available in a choice of attractive colours, they look great in kids’ bedrooms where they can be simply stacked on top of each other.
Sports kit and hobby boxes
Plastic attached lid Toteboxes are also perfect for storing and transporting sports kits, fishing equipment, walking boots, etc. These containers include deep handholds, so they can be comfortably lifted into and out from a car boot.
Plastic containers will protect your vehicle from mud and dirt. Models with lids will prevent smells from sweaty clothes and damp boots stinking out your car.
  Christmas and seasonal decorations
Most decorations can simply be placed in the plastic boxes. More fragile items should be stored in smaller boxes to prevent crushing.
Christmas lights need to be protected from damage and moisture. They should also be carefully wrapped to prevent them from becoming tangled. A great way to store fairy and garden lights is to wind them around a plastic reel (such as an old electrical power cable reel), a coat hanger or a cardboard tube. You can provide further protection with tissue paper or bubble wrap, then place them in the plastic box.
Garden furniture
Storing garden cushions and other summer kits in plastic crates over the winter months will protect them from damp and mildew. Euro containers with an attached lid keep out rain, so they can be used for outside storage.
Holidays
Camping and beach paraphernalia are ideally stored and transported in plastic stacking boxes. They provide compact storage when not in use, are easy to carry and will protect your car from dirt.
Keeping sand out of the car is a seasonal bugbear. Shake loose sand from towels and shoes before you open the vehicle, then place them into plastic boxes. Keep a few litres of water to hand to rinse sandy feet before getting in the car.
Valuables
Burglars are reluctant to go down to the basement, up to the attic, or into any confined area for fear of being trapped there. Unless you have a safe, jewellery, important documents, and other valuables can be kept in plastic containers with lids in a secure storage area. This will keep them safe and protect items from damp and pests.
We hope that our blog has been helpful if you have any questions or queries please don’t hesitate to give us a call on  01327 340 177 or head over to our contact page to fill in our online enquiry form and one of our friendly staff members will get back to you as soon as possible.

Organising Tips & Tricks for the Home
There is probably much more home storage space in your house than you realise, it just takes a bit of “in the box” thinking. Totebox shares their top tips and tricks to improve storage in your house without breaking the bank.
Creative Ways to Organise Your Home
The bed, which takes up the most floor space in most bedrooms, provides an ideal opportunity for easy access storage.
Ottoman style beds may provide large storage space, but the beds are very expensive and stored contents can be awkward to access from a made-up bed. Some divan beds feature built-in drawers, but these usually offer very limited storage.
Plastic storage boxes provide easy access and inexpensive storage solution. They can be simply slid under the bed and hidden from view by a fitted valance sheet. To maximise storage space, choose beds with good floor clearance to accept larger storage boxes.
Plastic attached lid containers, such as Toteboxes, provide moth-proof storage for the wardrobe top shelf and can be placed on the floor or bottom shelf to separate clean items from shoes.
Toteboxes are also ideal for storing children’s toys. They look great in the kids’ bedrooms where they can be simply stacked on top of each other.
Outside of the bedroom; the attic, cellar, under-stair cupboard, garage and shed provide the best opportunities for storage. However, they are typically fitted with inefficient shelving or filled to the gunwales with an inaccessible assortment of cardboard boxes, suitcases and bags.
Plastic storage crates offer the perfect space and money-saving solution. They are less expensive than most shelving units and because they can be stacked on top of each other, provide denser storage – so you can pack away more stuff at less cost.
Plastic containers are quick and easy to stack and unstack, so contents are much more accessible than sifting through an array of cardboard boxes and bags.
Because plastic containers are far stronger than cardboard boxes, they can be stacked high without risk of crushing the contents. This means you can store seasonal items, that you only need once a year, at the bottom of the pile with boxes requiring more regular access stacked on top. Plastic attached lid containers will also protect your items from damp and keep out pests.
Any system will fall flat if you can’t quickly find stored items, so identification is key. A simple bold label clearly identifies container contents. Totebox supply a card clip that securely holds labels in place. Totebox containers are available in a choice of colours, helping you to colour code items by theme.
Attached lid stacking & nesting containers are the most popular plastic boxes for home use. Totebox manufactures their famous Original Totebox attached lid containers in the UK. They securely stack with lids closed and nest inside each other with lids open, so they are themselves easily stored when not in use. The lid keeps out dust and other contaminants. They are ideal for both permanent storage and temporary uses such as seasonal storage or house moves.
Attached lid stacking containers, such as the Totebox range of Euro Stacking Containers, have vertical sides so they can store a little more stuff than stack-nest models (which have tapered sides to facilitate nesting). Totebox Euro stacking containers also allow users to create modular compact storage units with smaller containers stacking 2-up (side-by-side) on larger models. The lid provides a more secure rainproof barrier so they can be stored outside.
Not all plastic containers offer the same level of strength and durability. Plastic boxes commonly sold at popular retail outlets may be relatively cheap but they tend to break after a short time and cannot be stacked particularly high, presenting a potential safety risk if they are carrying anything but light loads. Industrial strength plastic containers, such as those stocked by Totebox, are designed for tough storage and handling operations in factories and warehouses where they typically carry unit loads exceeding 20Kg and are stacked up to ten high. They cost a little more but should last a lifetime.

Storage Boxes for Your Christmas Decorations
Nothing brings Christmas cheer to your home like sparkling decorations, twinkling lights and a glistening tree. However, creating a magical festive atmosphere will get off to a dull start if your baubles are broken and lights don’t shine.
Totebox share some tips to ensure that your delicate decorations and fragile lights are safely stored and protected during the other eleven months of the year.
Plastic storage boxes provide compact and convenient storage for Christmas decorations. They protect contents from knocks, keep out damp and help you to achieve maximum use of limited storage space.
You probably store your Christmas decorations in an attic, garage or shed. As you only need to access them once a year, the decorations are likely to be stored at the bottom of a large pile that regularly has items dropped on top with little regard to what lies underneath.
Unlike cardboard boxes, which are easily crushed and provide limited protection from damp. Plastic containers securely stack, so you can stack other items on top without the risk of crushing the contents. Lids for the plastic containers provide further protection from dust, damp and other contaminants.
Totebox plastic boxes and plastic crates are strong; typically carrying a unit load of 20 Kg and stacking up to ten high for a combined load of 200 Kg. So, although decorations may be light, you can safely store heavy items on top.
Plastic stacking containers also provide a space and money saving alternative to shelving. Plastic boxes are less expensive than most shelving units and provide far denser storage, with boxes stacking on top of each other to form a compact storage unit – so you can pack away much more stuff!
Totebox has really useful boxes that make it quick and easy to pack and unpack Christmas decorations. Most decorations can simply be placed within plastic boxes. More fragile items however, should be stored in smaller boxes to prevent crushing. Totebox Euro stacking containers allow users to create modular compact storage units with smaller containers stacking two-up (side-by-side) on large plastic storage boxes.
Totebox attached lid containers are great for items that need to be security protected. They stack with lids closed and nest with lids open to save space when empty, so they are ideal for applications where they are not in use all of the time.
Christmas lights not only need to be protected from damage and moisture, they should also be carefully wrapped to prevent them from becoming tangled.  Untangling knotted lights is frustrating and likely to cause damage to them.
A great way to store lights is to wind them around a plastic reel (such as an old electrical power cable reel), a coat hanger or a cardboard tube. Provide further protection with tissue paper or bubble wrap, then place them in the plastic box.
There are many types of plastic containers on the market and they vary greatly in quality. Plastic storage containers are commonly sold at popular retail outlets and may be relatively inexpensive, but they tend to break after a short time and cannot be stacked particularly high, presenting a potential safety risk if they are carrying anything but light loads. Industrial strength plastic containers, such as those stocked by Totebox, are designed for tough storage and handling operations in factories and warehouses. They cost a little more, but will last a lifetime.

How to Organise your Garage
There can’t be many people who don’t waste several hours each year looking for missing items. Whether it is a washer or replacement light bulb, we are all victims of losing items each year. The key benefit of efficient storage is being able to quickly locate and access stored items. But with most households having so much stuff, this is far easier said than done. Totebox suggests a number of garage storage ideas, combining density with accessibility, helping you achieve optimal storage efficiency.
Car Boot Sale
Clear space, and cash in on unused items by selling them at a car boot or online auction site. Most of us are reluctant to get rid of things “that might be useful one day”. But, for most items, the chances are that day will never come. So, get rid of any larger items that haven’t been used for a year or two and earn some cash at the same time.
Maximise Storage Space
Plastic stacking containers provide versatile and convenient garage storage. They are less expensive than most shelving units and provide denser storage, with boxes stacking on top of each other to form a compact storage unit – meaning that you can pack away much more stuff.
Totebox Euro stacking containers allow users to create modular compact storage units with smaller containers, stacking 2-up (side-by-side) on larger models. This enables you to create storage themes such as ‘holiday’, ‘Christmas decorations’, ‘garden’, etc, with smaller or more fragile items packed in separate containers, and then all the containers in the theme stacked into a compact storage cube.
There are many types of plastic containers on the market, and they vary greatly in quality. Plastic storage containers commonly sold at popular retail outlets may be relatively inexpensive, but they tend to break after a short time and cannot be stacked particularly high, presenting a potential safety risk if they are carrying anything but light loads. Heavy duty storage boxes stocked by Totebox are designed for tough storage and handling operations in factories and warehouses, where they typically carry unit loads exceeding 20Kg, and are stacked up to ten high. They cost a little more, but should last a lifetime.
Easy Access to Frequently used Items
Frequently used items should be stored within easy reach. Open front containers provide instant access and allow easy identification of contents.
In terms of equipment, dollies are a great help in carrying and transporting loaded crates. They help to prevent any back-ache that you might experience when carrying items yourself, and make transporting full crates and heavy loads effortless.
Storage System
With any storage, you need to be able to find items quickly, so identification is key. A simple label clearly identifies container contents. Totebox supply a card clip that securely holds labels in place.
Totebox containers are also available in a choice of colours, helping you to colour code items by theme.
Portable Storage
Versatile plastic containers provide great storage both at home, in the garage and in the boot of your car. Plastic storage boxes that come with lids help protect your contents from the rain. Lids are available for all Totebox Euro containers, and many models can be supplied with an attached hinged lid.
Stacking and nesting containers typically incorporate an attached lid. They stack with lids closed and nest with lids open to save space when empty, making them ideal for applications where they may not be in use all the time.
Attached lid containers and nesting containers are popular for sports kits and activities such as camping. They look good, are easy to carry and fit easily into your average car boot.

Five Efficient Ways to Organise Your Warehouse For Productivity
An efficiently organised warehouse will improve warehouse filling capacity, speed handling operations while also reducing the number of accidents. Totebox explores how reusable plastic storage containers can help Warehouse Managers to reduce the cost of picking, packing and handling operations, and improve health & safety.
  1 Speed Picking Operations
Identification and accessibility are key to fast and effective order picking.
Labelling on the pallet or container needs to be clear and visible. Many operations use adhesive labels to identify contents and destination, these can leave a sticky residue when removed which can become unsightly and make further labels hard to spot amongst the mess. Some Euro containers feature textured areas for the easy removal of temporary labels without leaving adhesive residue. Totebox also supply a card clip, which simply clips onto the container rim, making it easy to see and replace non-adhesive labels.
Open-front storage bins allow easy access to smaller items needed to complete an order, for example accessories and fixings. They can be hung off louvred panels situated at the ends of pallet racking, so that items stored in the bins are relevant to the goods held in the adjacent racking bay.
Wheeled dollies are nimbler and often faster than using a pallet and pump truck. Totebox supply both single and double size-dollies, which carry one or two columns of stacked Euro size containers. A dolly handle will allow users to pull (instead of push) loaded dollies, allowing them to load the dolly higher as there is no need to see over the top when pulling a load.
2 Reduce Time Spent Packing and Eliminate Double-Handling
Many warehouses spend a great deal of operational time taking items to a central marshalling area for packing. Items are picked, loaded onto a pallet, transported to the packing area where they are packed into cardboard boxes, loaded onto another pallet which is then stretch-wrapped on a turntable ready for dispatch.
Cardboard boxes are time consuming to assemble while pallet turntables take up several square meters of warehouse space.
An alternative solution is to load items for dispatch directly into reusable plastic stacking boxes during the picking operation, eliminating the need to repack. Containers securely interlock when stacked (the base is recessed by about 1cm to locate snugly into the top rim of the container below) which means that only a single band or a couple of turns of stretch-wrap is required to secure the pallet load.
Most plastic pallets incorporate a raised rim to secure the bottom layer of containers. This can be combined with a pallet cover to secure the top layer, eliminating the need for banding or stretch wrap altogether. Pallet covers or container lids also protect the contents from dust and rain.
Most operations who use reusable plastic containers reduce costs by speeding up the packing operation, eliminating the need to use consumables (such as adhesive tape, banding and stretch-wrap) and reducing the size of the packing area which can be repurposed for additional warehouse storage space.
Totebox supply stacking containers, attached-lid containers and stacking & nesting containers in standard Euro sizes. Euro containers have base dimensions of 600 x 400mm, allowing them to stack in five columns on a standard 1200 x 1000mm UK pallet and in four columns on a standard 1200 x 800mm Euro pallet.
Totebox Euro stacking containers include half size crates (with a 400 x 300mm footprint), quarter size models (measuring 300 x 200mm), and double-size (800 x 600mm) containers. This allows users to create modular handling and distribution units with containers of different base dimensions inter-stacking to form compact loads; 400 x 300mm models stack 2-up (side-by-side) on 600 x 400mm containers, which in turn stack 2-up on 800 x 600mm containers.
Distribution picking containers (DPCs) combine the protection and security of an attached-lid container with the ease of access required for order picking. The crates incorporate both an attached lid and a drop-door, allowing it to perform both distribution and picking operations. This eliminates double-handling where contents are decanted from transit packaging into picking bins or onto shelving.
  3 Optimise Storage Space
Stacking plastic boxes for storage have vertical sides, so they have a larger internal volume than stack-nest crates, which have tapering sides to facilitate nesting. Their modular nature allows users to create compact storage and distribution loads.
Unlike most cardboard carriers, the strength and uniformity of plastic boxes provide a level platform for multiple pallet loads to be block stacked on top of each other. This can free up a significant area for additional storage.
Plastic pallet boxes are strong, durable and can provide an efficient storage solution. Totebox rigid bulk Containers stack 10 high, carrying unit loads of up to 500 Kg for a combined load of 5 tonnes.
4 Ensure Compatibility With Handling Equipment
Totebox supply a number of products developed to meet the growing trend for more sophisticated and efficient supply chains. Totebox KLT containers and plastic heavy-duty pallets work seamlessly with the latest automated filling, weighing, scanning and handling equipment.
When selecting containers, it is worth considering any handling equipment you may purchase in the future to ensure continued compatibility.
  5 Improve Health & Safety
According to the HSE (Health & Safety Executive) more than a third of all over-three-day injuries reported each year to HSE and local authorities are caused by manual handling. Totebox trays and containers are designed for easy, safe lifting, carrying and lowering with ergonomically shaped and positioned hand-holds. However, basic manual handling guidelines must still be followed to avoid stress, fatigue and injury.
Wheeled dollies take the back-ache out of manually carrying loaded containers. A dolly fitted with a handle allows users to pull (instead of push) loaded dollies, enabling them to inspect an aisle before moving into it and thus avoid accidents.
Cardboard can generate large amounts of dust which adheres to machinery, leading to additional maintenance costs, and presents respiratory issues for employees. Plastic containers provide a clean and safe working environment.
Unlike timber pallets and pallet boxes, plastic pallets and plastic pallet boxes have rounded corners to deflect a forklift blow. This means that they are less likely to be pushed off racking if they are accidentally knocked.

Smart Storage Solutions For Your Home
Do you often spend a long time searching for a lost item in dusty cardboard boxes? Keeping everything neat and tidy where it’s easy to find and accessible is essential in a home as this will save you hours of rooting through boxes. Totebox plastic storage boxes are the ideal solution for your home storage needs.
Plastic Storage Boxes – Perfect for Space Saving
With storage space at a premium in most homes, and hours often spent searching for a lost item in dusty cardboard boxes, Totebox recommend plastic storage boxes as the ideal solution to achieving maximum storage in limited space.
Plastic containers provide versatile and convenient storage for many applications in the house and garage. They are less expensive than most shelving units and other traditional storage options and, with a little planning, will provide denser home storage solutions – meaning that you can pack away more stuff.
There are two standard container designs that have been adopted for home storage; stacking containers and stack-nest models. Stacking containers have vertical sides, so they have a larger internal volume than stack-nest crates which have tapering sides to facilitate nesting.
Euro Stacking Containers – Create Compact Home Storage
Totebox Euro stacking containers allow users to create modular compact storage units with smaller containers stacking 2-up (side-by-side) on larger models. This enables you to create storage themes such as ‘holiday’, ‘Christmas decorations’, ‘garden’, etc, with smaller or more fragile items packed in separate containers and then all the containers in the theme stacked into a compact storage cube. Containers are available in a choice of colours, helping you to colour code items by theme.
Plastic storage boxes with lids protect the contents from rain and dust. Lids are available for all Euro stacking containers and some models incorporate an attached hinged lid.
Euro stacking boxes are usually the best types of plastic containers for garage storage because of their compact design and wide range of sizes. Tools, nuts & bolts, plant seeds, cleaning products, etc, can be packed in appropriate size boxes.
Plastic Storage Boxes with Lids – Versatile Home Storage
Stacking & nesting containers typically incorporate an attached lid. They stack with lids closed and nest with lids open to save space when empty, so they are ideal for applications where they are not in use all the time.
Attached-lid stacking & nesting containers are popular for children’s bedroom storage, sports kits and activities such as camping. They look good, are easy to carry and fit snuggly in the car boot.
Dollies, wheeled platforms for carrying loaded crates, are a popular accessory for both stacking and stack-nest containers. Dollies take the back-ache out of carrying full crates and enable heavy loads to be effortlessly wheeled under, and out from, shelving or a workbench.
Industrial strength plastic containers, such as those stocked by Totebox, are designed for tough storage and handling operations in factories and warehouses where they typically carry unit loads exceeding 20Kg and are stacked up to ten high. They cost a little more but should last a lifetime.
Whether tidying up toys, packing away power tools or stashing less used kitchen equipment, plastic storage boxes can help you make the most of available space in the attic, garage and kids’ bedrooms.

Euro Stacking Containers: everything you need to know
Euro containers (whether stacking, stack-nest or folding) have standardised base dimensions to fit snugly on both Euro and UK pallets, as well as other handling equipment such as wheeled dollies, shelving and conveyors.
Containers have a 600 x 400mm footprint to stack in four columns on 1200 x 800mm Euro pallets and in five columns on 1200 x 1000mm UK pallets. Many ranges include half size crates, which measure 400x300mm. Totebox also offer quarter size models, with a 300 x 200mm footprint, and double-size 800 x 600mm containers.
Totebox Euro stacking containers allow users to create modular handling and distribution units with containers of different base dimensions inter-stacking to form compact loads. 400 x 300mm models stack 2-up (side-by-side) on 600 x 400mm containers, which in turn stack 2-up on 800 x 600mm containers.
Euro stacking containers have vertical sides, so they have a larger internal volume than stack-nest crates, which have tapering sides to facilitate nesting. Although they do not nest or fold for return trips, Euro stackers should not necessarily be ruled out for distribution operations if the vehicles are used in a closed loop.
Euro stacking containers are ideal for practically all manufacturing and many service industries. Smooth sides are easy to clean and promote hygiene, making them ideal for food and pharmaceutical production and distribution. Larger crates are used for handling and distributing products and components by non-food manufacturers, who often use the smaller size crates for small parts and fixings. Service sector uses include applications as diverse as outside catering, police scene of crime, engineer service kits, hospital sterile services, archaeological storage, etc.
Euro stacking containers are available in both solid and ventilated formats. Ventilated stacking crates are widely used for food handling applications because the vented sides promote airflow in fridges & freezers, which help the contents to reach the desired temperature quickly.
Some users, in other sectors, choose ventilated containers because they can visually check whether the container is full or empty. Ventilated models also weigh a few hundred grams less than their solid equivalents, helping to reduce delivery vehicle fuel costs and carbon footprint.
Solid stacking crates have smooth sides that lend themselves to certain food handling applications, for example handling meat or fish, where smooth hygienic surfaces are easy to clean and the solid sides and base retain any fluid.
Totebox Euro stacking containers are tough, heavy-duty storage boxes. Each model can carry unit loads of at least 25 Kg and stack up to ten high – a combined load of 250 Kg. Larger models have cut-out hand-holds for a more secure grip when manually lifting heavier loads. Some heavy duty storage containers can carry loads of up to 50 Kg.
Euro stacking container accessories include lids, security seals, card clips, dividers and dollies.
Euro containers with lids protect the contents from rain, dust or other contaminants. Totebox also supply Euro stackers with an attached hinged lid which cannot become separated from the container and lost. They provide a degree of tamper evident security when fitted with ties or mini-padlocks.
Euro stacking containers are often used for distributing high-value goods. Totebox offer a number of security seals as well as Voidloc tamper-evident labels.
Identification options include the Totebox card clip, which simply clips onto the container top rim. Many operations use adhesive labels to identify contents and destination, these can leave a sticky mess when removed which can become unsightly. Some Totebox Euro stackers feature a textured pin-dot area for the easy removal of temporary labels without leaving adhesive residue.
Totebox divider strips are available in four heights, they snap to size and interlock to divide Euro stacking crates into separate compartments.
Wheeled dollies take the back-ache out of manually carrying loaded containers. Totebox supply both single and double size-dollies, which carry two columns of stacked Euro containers.

Stacking Boxes | Advantages
Stacking boxes is a quite common and reliable method of storage for those of us who like holding on to their valuables probably for future use or reference. In this article we will elaborate on the advantages of such a practice.
Enables Systematic Storage
As stated not all items or household belongings lose value to their owner necessitating their disposal. We always have things such as old electronic devices, pictures, utensils, clothes among others that are valuable to us rendering them indispensable.
Stacking boxes allow us to keep those special items in an orderly manner which makes them easily accessible in the future whenever necessary. The most popular way in which people do that is by way of clustering items of a similar class or category together and packing them in labelled boxes. These boxes are then piled on top of each other in a designated area within the storage place.
Encourages Tidiness
A tidy home, as well as a tidy office, is a reflection of how organised the occupant is. Imagine a situation in which old clothes, utensils and electronic devices lie all over your house in no particular manner of arrangement. Similarly, the image of an office in which old files, documents and other stationary items lie all over your office space from the table to the floor as well as any other available space. The house or the office whichever the case might be will be really untidy, unappealing and uninhabitable not only for your visitors but for you as well.
Packing household items or office stationery that is not of any use at the moment in boxes and stacking them on top of each other in an orderly manner enables you to keep these premises tidy and conducive to live or work in.
Creates Space for Future Storage
We always buy new items for our domestic uses or to use them in our offices and after a certain period of time, they certainly serve the purpose they were intended for. They, however, don’t lose their worth simply because they have served their purpose and as such, some of them have to be stored for future use or reference. Packing these items in boxes and properly stacking them will create space for the next bunch of items that will go through the same process.
Failing to do so will render you in a situation in which you will have no space to store these new items subject to your improper storage methods. As such you might be forced to incur unnecessary expenses acquiring extra storage space. You might also find yourself in a situation in which you have to dispose of valuable items which is not advisable considering that you may need them in the future.
Protecting Your Valuables
Another advantage to stacking storage boxes is that it protects your valuables from damage. Do you have those special belongings that mean the world to you? Well, you can protect them by using stacking boxes. This allows easy access whenever need be, as well as keeping them safe for future uses. If you were to leave your special items scattered around your home, there is an increased chance of them becoming damaged or even misplaced.
To find out more about our stacking boxes and how they can be of use to you, please get in touch.
