If there was one advantage to Pesci’s frugality it was that he almost always had some money to spare for little gestures like these. In this particular instance, he been lucky enough to catch both items on sale. He had still ended up spending more than he would have liked to, but it was more than worth it
Pesci offered him a casual shrug, as if it had been the simplest thing in the world. “I know, but I wanted to,” he replied with a grin.
Tumblr media
“I hope you like it.”
The shrug was deceiving; he knew Pesci would have spent a good deal of time on whatever he had given him. It was just how he was as a person.
He tugged the ribbon from the first box, careful not to damage either the ribbon itself or the box and even tucking it away before pulling the first box open.
Tumblr media
The cuff links were simple, but well-made. They would go with just about anything he wore, really, and that was a feat in itself. “They’re lovely. . .”

He knew the shirt was Prosciutto’s size. He knew the cufflinks he had picked out went with it–the salesclerk had assured him that he couldn’t go wrong with a simple pair of titanium cufflinks. He knew that he had done a good job on tying the ribbon that held the boxes together.
Pesci still wasn’t sure whether Prosciutto would like his gifts, but it was too late for that now. The moment of reckoning had arrived.
Carefully gripping the sides of the boxes, he held them out towards Prosciutto. “Happy birthday, fratellone.”
Tumblr media
If he had been one hundred percent honest, Prosciutto hadn’t been expecting much from anyone; holidays weren’t always celebrated between the assassins, since they weren’t always in the same place together and money had been tight for quite a while.
So, when he heard Pesci call for him, he didn’t try to fight the smile off his face for once, reaching to take the boxes from him gently.
Tumblr media
“Pesci, you know you didn’t have to.”

Note
Multiples of six :^0
6: Eating habits and sample daily menu?
Prosciutto’s got generally bad eating habits. He likes really rich, unhealthy foods, mostly because that’s what he was raised on as a kid. Pastas with really heavy sauces and desserts that are really sweet and hard to eat a lot of are always his favorites. He stays close to home, though, and usually visits family-owned restaurants around where he lives.
12: Favorite book genre?
He doesn’t actually read??? a whole lot??? He usually limits his daily reading to newspapers and work-related reading. He does like the occasional mystery or horror story, though.
18: Favorite beverage?
He’s fond of red wines, though he’ll drink whatever’s available. For non-alcoholic drinks, he prefers milder sodas.
24: Is there one subject of study that they excel at? Or do they even care about intellectual pursuits at all?
He doesn’t really excel more at one thing than another; he tries to be good in everything he puts his mind to.
30: Reaction to sudden intrapersonal disaster (eg close family member suddenly dies)?
He’s very stoic, and he’s used to family tragedies, so by now he doesn’t really react? If something happened to his mother, he would be very upset, though, because she’s his only remaining blood family, and if something else happened to any member of la squadra, he’d also be very, very upset.
36: What makes them feel guilty?
Not much these days. Only when he has to involve a lot of innocent people during a job. He usually doesn’t feel guilty about it until he comes home, though.
42: How far did they get in formal education? What are their views on formal education vs self-education?
Prosciutto went to a private, Catholic-based school until he had to abandon school for familial obligations at sixteen. He made sure to keep up his education as much as he could personally, but he didn’t get much farther than that.
He admires self-taught people a lot of the time, mostly because it takes a good deal of effort to teach oneself.
48: If this person were to get into a fist fight, what is their fighting style like?
It’s bad; Prosciutto doesn’t have the strength to fight hand-to-hand very well ( and he can’t rely on the Grateful Dead either, since the stand cannot fight and balance on its hands at the same time. )
He prefers to stay at a distance and fight once the Grateful Dead’s ability has had time to weaken his opponent.

He started a little at Prosciutto’s laughter. He hadn’t expected it. And he hadn’t expected it to sound so much like his grandpa’s. It brought back memories of sunshine and sea breeze. It reminded him of home.
Pesci grinned, his eyes glittering with enthusiasm. “They have ones that you don’t have to keep in a freezer; my grandpa used them for his arthritis. I could bring a bunch of them and use bandages to keep ‘em in place!”
Tumblr media
“It’s definitely worth a try.” His laughter died down after several minutes, though the smile lingered afterwards. He could get along with this kid; he was resourceful, at the very least, and his enthusiasm was contagious.
It wasn’t often someone managed to catch him off-guard like that. It was nice to have someone to keep him on his toes.
Tumblr media
“I think you and I will get along just fine, Pesci.”

The Grateful Dead’s ability sounded like yet another thing he would have to worry about on missions, but it would be something he could see coming. Not that that gave him much peace. Even if it was unlikely that he might die because of its ability, he’d rather not be affected by it at all.
Tumblr media
He raised a hand to his face to scratch his cheek for a moment. “Since I’ll age too when I’m in the Grateful Dead’s range, should I bring an ice pack with me when we’re on a job?”
He hoped the question didn’t sound as stupid to Prosciutto as it did to him.
”Huh?” He paused some at the suggestion, a look of genuine curiosity blooming across his features. He had never thought of that, mostly because he didn’t work with partners very often. If he did, it was Formaggio, who was usually small enough to escape most of the effects.
Despite the tension previously over the two of them, Prosciutto smiled, bright and honest and leading into a laugh.
Tumblr media
“That’s -- certainly a new idea! I’ve never heard anyone think of that, and I’m not sure how well it will work, but it’s worth a try!”

“Yeah, I think so too.” Pesci had managed to sound more confident than he felt. Prosciutto had already caught a glimpse of his lack of self-confidence, but it wouldn’t be right to burden him with all of it during their first meeting.
“I’ve only heard bits and pieces.” Most of what he had heard about the others or their abilities hadn’t been anything incredibly specific. To him, they had felt more like warnings than anything else
“T-they didn’t tell me anything about your Stand. What does its ability do?”
Tumblr media
So the others really hadn’t told him about their stands. Interesting. Prosciutto curled his fingers against his cheek some, mulling over what to say for a good moment or so.
“It rapidly ages those in a range around me. The cold can negate the effects, but that’s really the only thing capable of stopping it.” He looked away some. “It has a large range, but there’s no real way of targeting a specific person unless I’m touching them.”
Tumblr media
“I call it the Grateful Dead.”

He hesitated for a moment, pursing his lips. Explaining how Beach Boy worked, something he understood intuitively, to another person in concrete terms wasn’t an easy task.“I can tell where the hook landed on the target and it can target specific body parts, but I can’t immediately tell if I hooked the right person or not.”
Tumblr media
“It’s named Beach Boy.”
“Hm. . .with some practice, I’m sure you would be able to do that without a problem.” he nodded, more to himself than anything. “Beach Boy is an interesting name.”
Tumblr media
“Have you. . .heard anything about the other members or their stands?” The only ones he knew for a fact were secretive about their stands were Sorbet and Gelato, so he had to have heard something. He was mostly hoping to ease the shock of showing him the Grateful Dead.

prosciutto joined passione after the other male members of his family who were capable of joining died, either because of their own errors ( as was the case of his father ) or because they were killed trying to reveal stands they didn’t have when pierced with the arrow during initiation ( like two of his brothers. )
despite having a strong stand, he started low in passione and fought his way up, using the grateful dead’s abilities to overwhelm opponents by making them weaker than himself. this upset a good few people, and also didn’t always work ( hence the scar on his throat. )
he had a gruesomely ruthless opinion during fights, caring very little for bystanders caught by the grateful dead, and fought his way through the ranks over time until he caught the eye of the leader of the execution team and joined la squadra.
he doesn’t talk a lot about his family, except his grandmother ( whom he adored ) and his mother ( who he loved, though she tended to fade into the background thanks to his father ).
his mother is still alive, and they have regular contact with each other. the heavy charm necklace he wears belonged to her family, he frets about her a lot in private, and doesn’t mention that she’s alive to many members of la squadra ( pesci’s honestly probably the only person who knows. )

“Only a couple. But they mostly just had me observe or use my Stand to find the target.” It was obvious they were starting him off slowly, teaching him the basics. The only real question he had was how long it would be before they thought he was ready for the next step.
Tumblr media
“Uh, it’s a fishing rod. It lets me know how many people are in a room and the hook can pass through objects.”
They were starting him off slowly, more slowly than anyone else Prosciutto knew. They had all crashed into their current lives, all of the current members had. There really had been no starting slow; there was only a time when they hadn’t had blood on their hands and now, where it stayed caked under their nails.
There was a bitter little feeling in his chest that he squashed down before there was any chance it could show on his face. Don’t ruin this now.
Tumblr media
“That’s certainly. . .unique. Sounds useful as well. How precise is it?” It sounded like the opposite of the Grateful Dead, which had very little precision, if it had any at all. “What do you call it?”

thelongpromisedroad:
Fairly intimidating was about right. Talking to the other members felt like navigating a minefield. A single misstep could end in disaster. And being a part of Passione didn’t change that.
“It’ll probably just take time some time to get used to,” he replied with his best attempt at a nonchalant shrug. Pesci prayed that was the case; he wouldn’t last long if he didn’t adjust.
A small surge of pride and relief filled his chest. Even though this was a thankless line of work and even though he knew better than to expect much appreciation, it was still nice to hear.
A smile–his first genuine one in days–played across his lips.
Tumblr media
“Thanks, Prosciutto.”
Now that was better. Seeing the other relax a little put him at ease, at least a little. It was worth putting his new partner at ease before they actually had a job together and he got frustrated at him.
He could only hope Pesci wouldn’t be terrified of the appearance of the Grateful Dead - if he wasn’t, he might be the perfect partner for Prosciutto.
Tumblr media
He cleared his throat some; he wasn’t normally a nice man, so being like he was was embarrassing him.
“Don’t mention it. How many jobs have you done so far? What kind of abilities does your stand have?”
