also fun fact since sidestep began regularly switching between their body and the puppets they've rarely slept (except for accidents when they slip up and fall asleep) and that means sidestep's been basically awake nearly 24/7 for maybe... 2 years by the time of rebirth

It's funny when there's a post that's innocuous, maybe a cute animal video or a funny joke then when I look at the comments there's one "You can't see this because you blocked this person" and the replies to it are all outraged like "what the hell man you're horrible and you should die" implying it said something completely insane. It feels like being the only person with an umbrella in the rain I think.

Some posts people make here when talking about the morality of Yuan and Jiu are too close to saying "obviously rich people are less likely to be abusers/bad people" for me.

The phrase "It explains it but doesn't justify it" when talking about a bad person that has gone through trauma bothers me a lot. Mostly because people say it so flippantly as if any action that hurts others can be explained by being hurt in the past. I'm not forgetting the "it doesn't justify it" is there. I simply do not agree that being miserable "explains" anti-social behavior like many people believe it does.

Suffering is not the root cause. One could believe it works this way: "Person is stressed, sad, etc." -> "They take it out on someone else" Therefore "Person is not hurt" -> "They don't hurt others." However, this assumes many things, for example that someone who is content wouldn't hurt anyone, or that humans by default see their peers as lesser.

That last thing is the key. You cannot see someone as an acceptable target for violence, to use as stress relief for one's own problems, without seeing them as lesser than you, without feeling entitled to it in some way. This is the "actual explanation." The difference between someone who has gone through suffering and takes their pain out on others and someone who doesn't is that the former has the ability to dehumanize others (either the group of others involves people that society has given them power over/told were inherently lesser or the group is "everyone except me".)

On topic of Shen Jiu. The fandom also likes to either jokingly or seriously say he's a feminist or more respectful of women than other characters and while he's certainly not the predator the unreliable narrator of PIDW showed him as, he's also just someone with androphobia.

I mean that him having trauma around men or being distrustful of them doesn't make him a feminist or even a misandrist. In his POV he even prefers to be wrongly accused of being a lecher than have people know he feels protected around women, because in his mind the former is less shameful.

I don't dislike Shen Jiu's character, but it doesn't make sense to me when people say "It's so sad he got replaced and nobody noticed or care and that everyone liked Yuan more than him." Because they did notice and cared that he was acting weird, they checked for posession and found nothing. Once you rule out possession his change of personality is just that, a change of personality. They decided to think he probably lost his memories.

and ppl say it's sad nobody wanted to help him recover his memories except YQY. YQY is the only one who has a previous relationship with him though, that he doesn't want to be forgotten, Shen Jiu was unpleasant to the other peak lords **on purpose.** He didn't want to be friends or even friendly acquaintances with them.

From their perspective, this whole thing also benefited their coworker greatly, he looks happier and healthier than before. He also has shown no interest in trying to recover his memories at all. So why would they want to?
