I no longer post here very often - but I have started writing a letter a week to Warren Buffett. Take a look when you have a chance.

Thanks for the great post and wonderful picture! I had a great time with the Niche magazine crew!

We went to Nashville for a Niche Publishing Conference which by the way was phenomenal. In between exciting sessions by Drew Davis and Ryan Dohrn, we snuck in a few highlights.
Capital Grille at The Hermitage Hotel:
The way we choose restaurants in cities we visit is we find out if there are any James Beard nominees. Tyler Brown of The Capitol Grille at The Hermitage Hotel was just selected in the category of Best Chef: Southeast in 2012. The ingredients are grown at the Farm at Glen Leven, just five miles from the restaurant. It was fun even if our waiter was a Florida Gator fan, what are the odds these two Georgia Bulldogs would get that pleasure? Food highlights: Southerners love their mac-n-cheese and especially if it is truffle mac-n-cheese. Our Hunter’s Plate was phenomenal with chicken liver moussaline, spicy dry salumi, Benton’s ham, caper raisin mustard, blood orange marmalade, pear mostarda, Noble Springs goat cheese and grilled flatbread.
The Patterson House:
From 1907 to 1911, Malcolm R. Patterson was elected to the governorship of Tennessee. During his second term, Patterson vetoed the return of statewide Prohibition. “For a state…to attempt to control what the people shall eat and drink and wear…is tyranny and not liberty.” The Patterson House is the most incredible speakeasy. As you walk thru the velvet drapes into the most charming space, you instantly know you are in for an experience. We had goat cheese balls with red pepper coulis and a bacon old fashioned with Benton Bacon infused 4 Roses Bourbon, maple syrup and coffee bitters with one large round ball of ice and a part and parcel with Prairie vodka, grapefruit, St. Germain, lime and house grapefruit bitters.
Robert’s Western World:
You have to love a place that is part diner and part honky tonk in the heart of Nashville in Lower Broad. Nashville Scene readers have consistently voted Robert’s as the Best Honky Tonk Music in Music City. There were some fabulous musicians crooning some George Strait and getting after it on a fiddle. And the couples dancing were so talented. It was a blast to take it all in over a cold PBR.
Losers Bar and Grill:
There is a bar next door called Winners and I wanted to go there but Vance chose Losers and I relented because it was rocking. The music was awesome and we knew that but we had no idea that we were listening to an impromptu appearance from RCA recording artist Chris Young. Everyone in the bar with cell phone cameras out recording him gave it away he was special. And guess what he was nice too. We met a great guy Matt Ryczek who is a builder from Atlanta that graduated from The University of Georgia so of course he was our instant buddy. He is a country song writer and I loved his first album cover is the view of downtown Athens from the UGA Arch.
Arnold’s Country Kitchen:
After a night of honky-tonking, you need a meat and three. Arnold’s was the perfect answer with fried pork chops, brisket, black eyed peas, collards, squash casserole, okra…you name the veggie and it was there. There is something so nourishing for the soul and the tummy in a good southern family style seating restaurant where all walks of life dine together.
We stopped by a few shops on the way out of town. Here is my post about H Audrey. I loved the mini-Barneys! We went to Billy Reid as well and thoroughly enjoyed meeting Grayson there. Thanks for reminding us how much we like Taj Mahal blues.
It was an extremely successful trip. We had a ton of fun. We are super inspired with lots of big ideas for our company. It is amazing what a trip can do for your outlook. I am putting Nashville in the Southern Cities Hall of Fame

Really weird!

Today in weird things we learned via Facebook that make us feel old: Scott Weiland, frontman of Stone Temple Pilots, apparently has a Christmas album coming out. This is odd, yes?

Damn it people, you couldn’t have already forgotten what (An)Drew Davis (@TPLDrew) taught us about fractal marketing, having a hook, or realizing that creating more crap content doesn’t mean people can actually consume more crap, did you? Even more importantly, just because budget is allocated, it doesn’t mean it’s allocated for that very same crap either. Take a step back and put some thought into your content. Give it that hook, the centerfold so to speak, remember?
Think CMYK, in RGB, but in B&W.: Apparently these smartphones are kind of a big deal.
So nice to see Jeff preaching and extending the ideas I presented at this week's Niche Digital Conference. Jeff's a really smart guy. Start reading his stuff!

In fact, compelling as Bercovici’s woe-is-books lede is, the stat he uses to back it up – that sales of adult hardcover books are down 23% – is somewhat, well, silly. For reasons I’ve explained before, measuring the state of “books” based on the number of hardcover sales is like measuring the popularity of “music” based on how many people are buying cassettes.
