For many families in rural communities, education is not just an aspiration—it is a struggle. Parents work long hours, take on additional jobs, and even forgo personal needs to ensure their children stay in school. Despite these efforts, their role in the education system often goes unrecognized. They remain unseen, unheard, and in many cases, disconnected from the schools their children attend.

Recognizing this gap, the Traceable Giving Foundation launched an initiative that transformed a simple, everyday ritual—drinking tea—into a powerful movement for change.

Chai with Mom & Dad: A Republic Day Initiative for Change

This Republic Day, we took a step towards bridging the gap between schools and families through our initiative, Chai with Mom & Dad. The idea was simple yet impactful: gather parents, teachers, and school representatives over a cup of chai and create an open space for meaningful conversations about education.

With 32 volunteers visiting 35 schools across rural communities, the initiative aimed to honour the parents who, despite financial difficulties, prioritize their children’s education. It was a moment to acknowledge their resilience, hear their concerns, and create a stronger connection between families and schools.

Why Chai? & Why Parents?

Tea is more than just a beverage in India—it is a symbol of warmth, connection, and conversation. In villages, chai brings people together, fostering discussions that might not otherwise take place in a formal setting. By using this familiar and comforting ritual, we were able to break the ice and encourage open conversations between parents, teachers, and community members.

For many of these parents, the sacrifices they make for their children’s education are immense. Some skip meals to save money for school fees, while others take on physically demanding work to afford books and uniforms. However, they rarely have the opportunity to voice their struggles or receive recognition for their dedication.

Chai with Mom & Dad was designed to:

✔ Honor parents’ sacrifices – Acknowledging and celebrating their efforts in ensuring their children’s education. ✔ Deepen trust between families and schools – Encouraging parents to engage more actively in their children’s academic journey.

The response to this initiative was overwhelming. Across 50+ villages, our volunteers engaged with families, listened to their stories, and provided encouragement. While the Right to Education Act mandates free and compulsory education for children aged 6-14, the interpretation of “free” excludes schools not supported by the government. This leaves many rural schools struggling to provide essential materials.

Traceable Giving Foundation (TGF), a social enterprise dedicated to rural development, steps in to bridge this gap with our impactful “Books for Change” program. Launched in 2019, the initiative provides a set of curated academic books to all students enrolled in schools affiliated with TGF. We began with 30 schools, empowering 2000 rural students. Today, the program flourishes, reaching over 4600 students across 40 schools.

Empowering Education, One Book at a Time “Books for Change” is more than just book distribution. It’s a testament to social impact achieved through transparency. Each affiliated school automatically receives the program every year, ensuring no child gets left behind. The project covers the entire cost of books, alleviating the financial burden on parents and encouraging them to prioritize education. This has demonstrably led to a decrease in dropout rates, particularly in vulnerable grades 9 and 10.

Transparency through Traceability Ensuring every child receives their books is paramount. We achieve this through a robust barcode system. Each book bundle has a unique barcode sticker with the student’s name. During distribution, the barcode is scanned, and the data is uploaded to our secure online portal. This social enterprise initiative guarantees transparency – sponsors can access the portal and track book distribution across schools.

Measurable Impact, Lasting Change The project has yielded demonstrably positive social impact. Dropout rates in affiliated rural schools have shown a significant decrease. This success story motivates TGF to repeat the program annually in each partnered school.

TGF goes beyond simple donations. We partner with schools through a unique affiliation program. This collaborative approach allows the Traceable Giving Foundation team to work alongside educators, understand their needs, and tailor the programs for maximum impact. We have created a powerful system ERP system to manage everything efficiently. This lets us track resources and ensure they reach students effectively. Our goal is simple: 100% of the donations directly benefit students. To achieve this, we built a portal with all the information you need. This includes student data (grades, attendance, and ID numbers), teacher details, schools involved, and even our partners (donors and vendors).

A multi-faceted approach

Our holistic transformation programs encompass various stages, each contributing significantly to student success. Here’s a glimpse into some key initiatives: Book for Change: Foster a love for reading and equip schools with well-stocked libraries, providing diverse knowledge resources for students. E-Learning Classrooms (E-Sundaram): Bridge the technological gap by equipping classrooms with cutting-edge technology, enabling interactive and engaging learning experiences. E-Vidyalaya: This initiative focuses on teacher training and development, empowering educators with the latest pedagogical techniques to reflect student potential. These are just a few examples of initiatives. Following the process, the Traceable Giving Foundation offers a comprehensive suite of programs specifically designed to address the unique needs identified at each school. BHT: The end goal of transformation The ultimate objective of the Traceable Giving Foundation’s programs is encapsulated in our flagship initiative, Bright Her Tomorrow project. BHT specifically empowers and uplifts girls through education. This offers a multi-pronged approach:

Through orientation programs and weekly training, the Traceable Giving Foundation, with Brighther Tomorrow exposes girls to diverse career options, sparking their aspirations and broadening their horizons.

We recognize the importance of well-rounded development. It tackles both, financial and emotional hurdles by providing financial aid to overcome financial barriers and offering emotional support systems to help young girls navigate challenges.

This equips girls with the tools and confidence need to overcome obstacles, reach their full potential, and become agents of positive change in the communities. TGF’s programs offer a potent combination of academic enrichment, technological advancements, and social-emotional support. This holistic approach fosters well-rounded development, preparing students to excel academically and become confident, contributing members of society.

At TGF, transparency is paramount. Our journey begins with a simple yet thorough process. Schools register online, providing details that allow us to understand their needs. This includes a Know Your Customer (KYC) process to assess demographics like student and teacher numbers, along with attendance rates.

A dedicated software portal serves as the central hub for this process. Here, our team verifies information and approves the KYC, paving the way for a school to become officially affiliated with TGF.
