"You know," Julian starts, watching the woman throw back another shot. "I think you might wanna slow down." He looks at her with both amusement and just a dash of bafflement. She seemed to have a tolerance of steel.

He was often told not to pry by his boss, but most times regulars liked him a lot for that very reason. He was a good listener, and sincere if nothing else. "Any particular reason you're getting white girl wasted? Like...bad breakup, or?"

Maybe not the most sensitive way to ask, but he was genuinely curious. And a bit concerned. "For the record--I think I've seen large, grown men fall over with far less than what you've drank tonight. Are you perhaps superhuman?"

Julian squints at her, "you are very unhelpful." He was currently sat on the floor, papers in varying degrees of scribbled on and crumpled up, all sprawled about. "I'm not usually like this," he says, more so whines. "And usually the songs I write are--considerably better." Perfect? Definitely not. But he thought of himself as fairly talented. "I'm doing my best, miss judgmental, so maybe take off the judgy pants." He groans loudly. "Sorry. I'm just--I'm doomed."

It's not a sentiment he's unfamiliar with. How many times had he been told he cares too much, forgives too freely? It was his fatal flaw: kindness. Her words are a bit harsher than most on the subject. "I've made it this far," he says with a shrug. "I have a way of beating the odds." There's a slight smirk tugging his lips, "besides--can't be that kind. Even my friends get the urge to beat my ass sometimes."

Julian does a lot of things that could easily get him killed. Bad habits and impulsivity were his specialty. No one ever knew how to rein him in, how to bring him back to earth. Once he started he could rarely stop. "And caring too much is hardly my worst habit anyway."
