My dear lgbt+ kids,
Do you need a glass of water, a snack or a nap?
It can be pretty easy to ignore those basic needs, especially so if you tend to be very hard on yourself or your body. If you don’t like yourself, you may subconciously “punish” yourself by depriving your body of these things.
If you struggle with that, it can help to regularly check in with yourself as if your body was a baby you’re taking care of. (You can also think of a puppy or a kitten - anything that you would consider adorable and worth protecting).
This is actually a trick my therapist taught me. It may not work for everyone but it helps me a lot. If a baby is hungry, you wouldn’t say “Stupid weak baby, you weren’t productive today, you don’t deserve a snack” - you would just feed them. If a puppy could barely keep their eyes open, you wouldn’t say “You are bad and ugly, you didn’t earn a nap” - you would just allow them to sleep.
You don’t need to talk to yourself like that, either. You deserve to take care of yourself, just like a baby or a puppy deserves to be taken care of.
With all my love,
Your Tumblr Dad

hey full offense but the ‘use the right pronouns even if the person is horrible!’ statements arent made to coddle horrible ppl, its saying ‘dont view correct pronouns as a fucking privilege that can be taken away once people decide you’ve fucked up enough’, misgendering someone on purpose is transphobic no matter what bc it equates transphobia as a ‘punishment’ for bad people, pronouns are a part of baseline human respect, its that simple

Leftists, I want y’all to destroy the idea of “laziness” yesterday
Motivation, patience, and energy are limited resources, especially for people with executive dysfunction, mental disabilities, and physical disabilities.
Next time you want to assume you or someone else is being “lazy”, consider the actual reasons behind why there is not enough in them to do the thing.
Left to their own devices, free people are naturally driven to improve their lives and the lives of others,
Right wing arguments’ foundations depends on the assumption that humans are naturally selfish, evil, and “lazy”, and must be controlled by higher powers and punished when they don’t contribute enough (with the insistence that certain groups of people are more deserving of being controlled and punished than others)
Next time you notice you or someone else is struggling to accomplish something, don’t assume “laziness”, instead ask yourself: am I tired? Depleted of patience? In a bad mood? If I keep pushing myself through this, will it really be worth the distress?
Maybe what you need is rest, someone to talk to, mental health support, or to just be safe, with all your needs being met. Maybe we should eliminate “laziness” as an easy explanation and instead consider our needs first.

My dear lgbt+ kids,
Loving your body doesn’t necessarily mean standing in front of a mirror and thinking “I am so beautiful, my body is perfect and I can’t stop looking at my own reflection because I look so dang good!”.
Those moments are awesome and I hope you experience them sometimes, you deserve to feel that happy in your skin! But loving your body is more than that.
Loving your body also means:
- wearing clothes that keep you warm enough
- going to bed when you are tired
- taking a water bottle with you because you know hydration is important
- doing a quick “splashing my face with water” thingy because you are too sleepy for a full shower but still want to clean your face
- drinking a cup of tea when you have a headache because you noticed it makes you feel better
- eating dinner, even though you don’t feel like it
It’s not just the big feel-good moments or the big self-pampering moments. Every time you take a tiny action to keep your body healthy, especially on days you don’t really feel like it, you are doing an act of love - even if you feel ugly while you do it.
If you feel ugly, uncomfortable in your body or dysphoric, it may feel impossible to stand in a front of a mirror and like what you see. Instead, try to just notice all the tiny things you do for your body and allow yourself to feel proud of yourself for doing so. It takes strength and bravery to keep doing these acts of love on bad days - you are amazing!
With all my love,
Your Tumblr Dad

Random things that make top surgery recovery easier
A few months before you get surgery, exercise a lot, especially in your core. If you do lots of crunches and/or situps, once you’ve lost a lot of mobility and strength it will be so much easier to sit up and stand up if your abdominal muscles are stronger.
Bendy straws! It makes drinking beverages so much easier.
Make sure stuff is in arms’ reach since you won’t be able to reach very far.
Stay ahead of your pain. Don’t wait until you hurt so much you can hardly move.
Medicines you are given often give you a dry mouth, so 1. keep lots of water handy 2. get some minty gum because that dry mouth will make it taste like something died in there. Also brush your teeth (duh.)
Get some stool softener pills. Any sort of narcotic pain killers (like Norco, Vicodin, etc.) will constipate the heck out of you, and milk of magnesia is gross af, just take pills to get the same effects.
Always wash your hands, it’ll reduce the risk of infection.
When positioning yourself, make sure your chest is in as little pain as possible, but also make sure you’re not going to make every other part of your body sore as a result. In trying to stop any pressure on my chest whatsoever, I twisted my back around and woke up with a really sore back.
If you do end up with muscle pains, heating pads are great. If your chest hurts, use cold to treat pain and decrease swelling but only for short periods and with lots of bandages on your chest.
Get some nice facial wipes because you won’t be able to shower for a week or longer. Also, the night before you get surgery (or whenever the last time you shower before then,) don’t condition your hair. It’s not as healthy, sure, but it’ll keep it from getting too greasy as you won’t be able to wash it for a while.
Cough drops or some sort of hard candy, also tea with honey is highly recommended, as you’ll probably have a sore throat from the breathing tube they give you under anesthesia.
If you want to take a non-narcotic pain killer, take tylenol, not an NSAID like advil, because NSAID pills can make bleeding worse. Also, don’t take multivitamins for the week before, as Vitamin E can worsen bleeding.
Even if you’ve got drains like I did, the first night you sleep, you should put down a towel to sleep on in case you leak from other places under the bandages or surgical vest. This is normal so long as you’re not leaking dark red blood, but then again why stain your sheets when you can avoid it?
Wear easy-to-move-in and easy-to-remove clothes: no jeans, no t-shirts, stick to button-downs and sweatpants or pajama pants.
Feel free to add more tips!
-L
One last thing, shave your armpits because tape WILL get caught in the hair and that’s quite unpleasant.

how do i come to terms with the fact that i'm trans?
It’s a difficult process for everyone. You are not alone! It took my self a good year of conscious contemplation and questioning to come out to my supportive family. Even then, it was a few years before I truly stopped questioning if I had made a mistake.
I definitely suggest trying to partake in a local support group and if you’d like I can help you locate one over private message.

So like, my question is what does it mean to be out as a trans person? I know people who like people to know their trans and other people to not? For me personally people always disrespect my pronouns once they find out I'm trans
Being out as a trans person varies person to person. Many individuals prefer to conceal their identity as it can be safer and easier to deal with than the disrespect that may follow telling them.
Personally, I am tend to be quite selective in who I disclose my identity to in the workplace; however, when socially interacting with people I might tell them if it naturally comes up in story.
It’s important to note that I live in Los Angeles and have the privilege of a fairly accepting community. Some individuals are unable to come out, whether seen as their gender or sex, as they don’t have such a privilege.
