is there a language you learn secretly, like, no one really knows you’re learning it (except for internet friends maybe) and why?

types of study sessions + the rainbow
red - sudden surges of motivation, hardwork, studying to accomplish your goals, doing steady work at a fast pace, plowing through vocabulary lists, reviewing 500+ words all at once, self-encouragement, happily crossing off things from your to-do list, fist pumps & patting yourself on the back after getting through everything
orange - oversized hoodies & sweatpants & a messy bun, sitting criss-cross-applesauce on a cushy surface, pillows, studying right after waking up, making designs on your notebook, sipping at a smoothie, being lazily motivated, enjoying the lessons you study but not being entirely invested
yellow - music in your target language turned up loud, chatting excitedly with international friends, thinking to yourself in your target language, organizing vocab lists, putting designs on your flashcards, smiling & feeling a happy buzz from all the things you’ve learned so far, studying because it’s fun, having a window open & letting in fresh air, snacking & drinking juice, making up silly mnemonics & acting them out, inviting friends over to study together
green - light music in the background, steadily writing notes while humming to self, reading through paragraphs in your target language & feeling relatively good about your comprehension level, discovering new vocabulary, going your own pace & methodically ticking things off your list, feeling accomplished & whole after your session is over but still working ahead
light blue - spacing out while studying, leaning back in your chair & mentally going over the things you’ve learned, spacily looking over vocab lists without really digesting the information, trying to push yourself to focus, napping in your desk chair while a fan blows towards you
dark blue - leaning forward in your chair, turning your lamp on brighter so you can see your textbook better, being slightly unmotivated but working anyway, calculating how much work you’ve done & how much you have left, sighing to yourself, speaking example sentences out-loud to yourself, fighting off the urges to check your phone, having headphones in to try & boost your motivation
purple - hair tied up messily, scrawling sentences after sentences in your target language, whispering to yourself as you write, having a conversation with the textbook material, black ink, curtains closed, having a desk lamp be the only light in the room, going over flash cards again & again until you get them down
pink - washi tape, mildliners, pastel stationery, putting on cute outfits to study, learning just a few words at a time but getting them down so well you memorize them, bite-sized lessons, colorcoding & smiling to yourself as you switch colors, doodling hearts & ribbons & bows sweetly over your notes, taking 5 minute breaks often to check your text messages but still staying focused, sticking positivity post-it notes around your work area, encouraging other friends to study with you & keep up their hardwork
white - finishing one notebook & closing its pages for the very last time, opening a brand new one & outlining an index page, working through questions & problems on your bed, wrapping heavy blankets around yourself, taking sips of hot chocolate, making that very first stroke of heavy black pen on an otherwise completely blank page, neatly hand-printing an entire page of notes for a particularly difficult grammar concept
gray - being in a room of dissatisfying temperature, reading pages & pages without processing a single word, having the hum of your target language in the background of your mind without being able to explain anything or form actual sentences, looking at a page filled with vocab to be learned but dissociating too heavily to put anything into practice
black - working through exhaustion, too many cups of coffee and too many empty mugs, staying up past 4am, dark circles, messy hair & messy makeup, clutter at your workspace, making too many simple mistakes, writing the same thing over & over again; learning by rote, muttering to self incoherently, cramming because you have an important exam coming up, but ending up forgetting about that reason somewhere along the way
