WIP Wednesday

The working title I have for this one is “the rainbow that the killifish saw.” It’s set in an AU where 1) Bev managed to hide that he was attacked (snuck in at night with no one at home noticing, burned his bloodied shirt, tended to his wounds himself, does his best to act as normal when he’s not shutting himself away in his room; people suspect something must be up, but he won’t reveal anything), and 2) he ends up telling Webb—who’s decided to try to make up for all the shit he and his brothers put him through—about what happened. I think Bevil would be able to forgive him, and they become something like friends by the time Bevil leaves.

“When Adrian killed your brothers, he said it was out of mercy, but… I know it wasn’t.  He—he did it for me.  But no matter how awful you three have always been to me, I’d never wish any of you dead.”

Yeah, he knows.  Knew it when he saw Wyl’s and Ward’s throats slit identically.  Clean and precise, not done in the heat of battle.  Adrian’s malice toward them—toward any of them—might not be undeserved, but that don’t make it hurt any less—but that ain’t any fault of Bevil’s, and so all he says is, “You’re a better man ‘n any of us, Bevil.”

Better than anyone in the village even, maybe, and he didn’t deserve nearly half the shit his brothers and him put him through.  Probably never deserved any of it.

One corner of Bevil’s mouth twitches, dismissive, like he doesn’t believe it—or like it’s never done him any good, so what’s it matter?

WIP Wednesday

I don’t have a title or much of anything for this one yet, but it’s set during Act II, between the trial and becoming captain of Crossroad Keep.

Although returning to West Harbour…  He’s worried about Bevil, yes, but he’s the only good thing left about that village, and is that really enough to keep him?  Even with all the freedom Daeghun granted him by virtue of simply not caring one way or the other, he still felt stifled.  Amie’s gone, and so are Bevil’s two greatest tormentors—and together that makes up over half the reason he never seriously considered leaving before.

And then there’s also the matter of Lorne to consider.  Lorne, who’d been manipulated by Luskan dogs until Adrian could hardly recognise the gentle giant who probably cared more about him than anyone else not in his age group, who was closer to a brother to him those first twelve years of his life than Daeghun ever could have been a father.  Lorne, whose throat he slit exactly as he did Wyl’s and Ward’s.  It wasn’t malice, far from it, but it didn’t feel like mercy either, even if what he said about what Black Garius would do to him was true.  How can he face Retta after murdering her eldest son, Bevil after murdering his older brother?

He can’t go back.  Maybe he can simply wander Faerûn as an adventurer, go wherever the money and the wind take him, but he can’t go back, and he’s not staying here.

I’m considering doing WIP Wednesday, but I’m not sure how often I’ll actually remember. Rarely am I properly aware of what day it is… (ADHD time blindness)

Some doodles as I try to work out/cement in my head what I want Camus to look like. He’s a half moon elven sorcerer/red dragon disciple | draconic-bloodline sorcerer of red dragon ancestry (I believe they’re also called dragonsouls?). He’s getting wings because screw whoever decided we couldn’t have them anymore after giving them to us in NWN1, and also horns and a tail because they’re cool and I can. I’ve written a few fics with him which can be found over on AO3—currently there are two each for NWN1, NWN2, and BG3.

They ended up looking yellowish, but his eyes are supposed to be pale jade (with the little golden flecks that apparently moon elves have, according to the FR wiki).

I could kinda see it if it wanted me to change “anguish plain in his voice” to “anguished,” but they still have different feels and there’s a reason I didn’t merely go with “anguished.” But, nope, it apparently thinks “plain” is the noun rather than the verb, and it wants me to use the adjectival form of “anguish” to describe it. Because that makes total sense.

Oh dang. October’s over already. I didn’t draw nearly as much for Inktober as I’d hoped. I got stuck on a warder drawing and then just kinda fizzled out lol

Oh no. I think my warder series might just end up being called “warwick redemption arc when” if I can’t think of an actual title before I finish the first fic, and we all know how bad I am with those…

…Speaking of, the fic itself still needs a title too. I am not calling it “fire blade,” which is what I labeled it. The only fic I currently have planned for this which has an actual title so far is the last, and even then, it’s just a shortening of the title from another of my WIPs…

Actually, how am I even supposed to write Malroth in a volleyball context?? All his spikes (and by extension serves, since he uses the jump serve) would be very powerful, obviously, and he’d likely prefer to always take the blockers head-on and break through the block rather than go around it, but?? Other than that???

Why do fight scenes feel easier to write than volleyball. I’m trying to remember how Kabei-sensei wrote the gameplay in 2.43, but it’s not exactly helpful because JP and EN are two very different languages

And my brain keeps giving me JP words/phrases. Like “ドヤ顔.” Like, yes, thank you, that’s very helpful. I hope “triumphant smirk” evokes the expression I’m going for. At least “ナイサー!” and “ドンマイ!” are technically EN.
