just thinking about the two main couples in my stuff, because i love them a lot.
machine/alejandro x julie is a story of two broken, lonely people who desire normalcy, to be loved and to have a family. alejandro grew up as a weapon who was not treated as an actual person until he met julie, and julie lost her parents and wants a husband and children, but feels held back by the misogynistic society she lives in(the act that prevented discrimination against pregnant women in the workplace wasn't passed until halloween 1978) and with her 30s inching closer, believes she will become "too old" to get what she wants.
together, they find happiness. julie treats alejandro like a person, she helps teach him about earth alongside mark and vivian, he reminds her of her love of earth and humanity and when things get bad, she doesn't hold his past against him. and when he was brainwashed, he was able to fight against the chip's enough to not go after julie, not even going easy on her like with mark and vivian. the ending also implies they will have a family together.
phantom blot x lily, comparatively, isn't meant to be perfectly healthy. they're supposed to be the darker more fucked up pairing. blot kidnaps lily numerous times and forces her to be his queen and the mother to his daughter. lily's abuse also certainly made it easier for her to be drawn to him, even though blot never takes advantage of this. lily also knows of the horrible things he's done, including trying to kill one of her best friends numerous times, so she has a moral dilemma about her attraction to him but ultimately stops fighting it and gives in, and enjoys her power as queen, giving her an air of moral greyness.
but you also understand lily's attraction. she has been so hurt, mocked, abused, humiliated and smacked. she develops trust issues, worried that the kindness of others is fake, that's why it's easy for her to trust blot: he is so open about his villainy that she knows he has nothing to hide from her. he loves her as she is, let's her be herself, let's her get angry and believes in her potential, he would not elevate her to be a queen if he didn't. and blot too has been abused, hurt, forced to be what his parents wanted him to be and was lonely. but he ends up having lily.
in the case of both ships, they cure each other of their loneliness, give each other the unconditional love they have so desperately needed and fit into that idea of "knowing the worst parts of someone, the most terrible things they are capable of and loving them anyway." they are all outcasts in their own ways, people who don't fit in to what society expects of them, but they have each other and their friends.
machine/alejandro x julie is the opposites attract(grumpy x sunshine) and beauty and the beast ship, and phantom blot x lily is the heroine x villain dark romance. you can probably tell the kind of dynamics i like(mark x vivian isn't a main ship but they're also an opposites attract ship)...

and so we reach the final chapter, chapter 16
prologue chapter 1 chapter 2 chapter 3 chapter 4 chapter 5 chapter 6 chapter 7 chapter 8 chapter 9 chapter 10 chapter 11 chapter 12 chapter 13 chapter 14 chapter 15
As they made their way onto Scazard’s ship, Machine spoke up, “Before we go back to America, I have something I want to do first…”
“Machine…” Vivian sighed knowingly.
“I know it's dangerous but I don't care anymore, I have to see them.”
Julie looked at Vivian, “It's for the best, he'll never get closure if we don't.”
“Fine…”
And with that, they made their way towards Nicaragua.
—-------------
They found themselves in a small village, and walked around. Everyone stared at them, but especially Machine with his cybernetic appearance. Talking filled the air, as everyone questioned what was going on.
Eduardo and Sofía heard the commotion from their fellow villagers, and made their way outside.
The couple locked eyes with Machine and just staring at him, they knew they had found their son.
They ran over to him and hugged him with tears in their eyes, and Machine happily hugged them back. He recognized them as the couple in the photo, and knew they wouldn't behave that way if they didn't see him as their son anyways.
Sofía held onto his face, he had changed so much from when he was a small baby, but retained a familiar gleam in his eyes.
“Alejandro Ferro Valiente, you are home.”
His eyes widened, “Is that..my real name?”
She nodded.
Alejandro smiled, and suddenly noticed a bunch of people behind his parents.
Eduardo turned around, “I know your brother is here but one at a time please!”
Regardless, the youngest practically pounced on him.
But he didn't mind, he was home, he had his family, and that was what mattered.
The others watched the scene happily, seeing he had finally found what he was searching for.
One of his sibling's hands touched his chest, making him wince. Sofía noticed instantly, “Get off him, he's hurt!”
Alejandro sighed, “Mother, I'm fine.”
“No you're not, let me see.”
She pulled his shirt down, revealing a large cut and gasped, “Oh dear, we have to deal with this right away..”
Sofía brought him into the house to care for him, and Julie followed, figuring she should introduce herself.
As Sofía tended to his wound, she noticed Julie, “And who might you be?”
“I'm his girlfriend, Julie Kearney.”
“Girlfriend? How wonderful!” She smiled.
Some of his siblings made kissy faces, and Julie chuckled at it. He was already integrating himself into his family quite well.
Eventually, the others introduced themselves too, Sofía and Eduardo couldn't be happier seeing all the friends their eldest had, and a girlfriend. Plus Julie seemed very sweet, they certainly approved of her.
Vivian whispered something to Alejandro, making him look at his parents, “Oh um, my friends live back in America, do you want to go with us? I know how bad things are getting here, it would probably be a safe move.”
His parents thought over it before Eduardo nodded, “Yes, that sounds good.”
“Come on then,” Alejandro led them aboard and soon they were on their way to the States.
—-------------
November
Alejandro and Julie had settled into their lives quite nicely, he had moved in with her, and his family had managed to get a good house too.
Something that made Julie particularly happy was that the “Pregnancy Discrimination Act” had passed, therefore, her fears about being fired for being pregnant eased, knowing she could take legal action if it ever did happen.
And watching Alejandro, she did think she'd like that family with him…one day…
They were enjoying a peaceful morning together when Eduardo and Sofía burst through the door with food, Alejandro smiled and went over to them to take it.
It was the standard Nicaraguan breakfast of gallo pinto, cheese and eggs, she'd included a spicy pico de gallo too.
“Mamá, you know I'm learning how to make these on my own.”
“I know, but I am your mother! It's only natural I still want to cook for you!”
Alejandro smiled as he rolled his eyes.
After they sat down and ate breakfast together, Mark and Vivian arrived, Mark grinned, “We have a message from Asteri.”
Vivian was holding a circular object in her hands and set it down.
A holographic projection popped up, showcasing Asteri in traditional Embaran empress clothing, “Things have been going very well, I've been doing…a lot of restructuring…fixing up the laws…freeing colonized planets. It's a lot of hard work. Alejandro! One of these days you need to get back here and tell me about the khirens, I need to do diplomatic work with them.”
He smiled, “Of course.”
Sofía raised a brow, “I still cannot believe you've been in space interacting with aliens. And isn't one of your friends here one?”
He wanted to correct her that John wasn't really a friend but shrugged it off, “Yes, it's not a big deal really.”
“Oh but it is to me!”
Mark kissed Vivian's cheek, “But now, we have a big fundraiser event to get ready for, very fancy.”
Vivian grinned, “And you're going to be my plus one.”
“As always!”
Julie was pleased to see them, Mark and Vivian had skirted around their feelings for too long, but it seemed their time on Embara really changed things, which she was grateful for.
Later, she left for work, where she ran into John, “How's everything going, my dear?”
“Very well, and for you?”
“I made a really good banana bread, you'll have to come over and try some!”
“I can't wait!”
He kissed her cheek, and then she left, waving back at him as she did so.
—---------------
When night arrived, Julie returned home and sat down, watching TV with Alejandro. There was another meal nearby, courtesy of Sofía. Julie loved how doting she was, she was very sweet, and it was introducing her to a bunch of new food that she greatly enjoyed.
Julie nestled her head against Alejandro's chest, “Isn't it wonderful how much things have changed for us?”
He kissed the top of her head and smiled, “I'm grateful for it, every day.”
Life was simple and ordinary…well minus the alien communication…but they wouldn't have it any other way.

chapter 15...the final battle
prologue chapter 1 chapter 2 chapter 3 chapter 4 chapter 5 chapter 6 chapter 7 chapter 8 chapter 9 chapter 10 chapter 11 chapter 12 chapter 13 chapter 14
As the group made their way to the palace, they noted the revolutionaries approaching as well. Seeing their friends, Mark and Vivian ran over to them.
“Where's Julie?” Vivian asked.
Machine frowned, “She's been kidnapped by Pyri.”
Vivian's fists clenched, a determination filling her, “Let's go save her.”
On the way there, she continued to speak, “I refuse to let anything happen to her. Julie has been my best friend since we were babies, as our mothers were also best friends,” She gazed at Machine, “You have no idea the depth of what she's been through.”
He knew her parents died, and the thought of Julie suffering more pained him. Just thinking about what she must be feeling right now hurt him deeply…
—----
Julie was still in her room, which was being watched over by guards to prevent her escape.
The section of the palace she was in was a tower that overlooked the city. She could see a bunch of people in the distance coming over, and her mind wandered to the revolutionary group and if that was them. If so, were Mark and Vivian among them? Were they safe?
And Machine too…where was he?
All the people outside made the guards abandon their post to run out and deal with them, with the exception of one that stayed back to continue to watch Julie.
She looked at him, “The revolutionaries are on their way, aren't they?”
He nodded, “Yes..it's frightening, isn't it?”
“But it could be so wonderful too, couldn't it?”
He paused, thinking it over, “It could..”
“You must help me escape, please? I need to see my friends again, I need to know if they're okay.”
“With those revolutionaries out there? You could get hurt,” There was a pause, “But there is a safe passageway out of the palace…”
“Will you take me there?”
“I will..”
—------------
The revolutionaries stormed the palace, fighting with the guards and soldiers there. All the while, Machine and Scazard made their way towards Pyri.
She scowled at Machine, “Did you bring them here?”
Scazard smirked, “Nah, they came here of their own volition.”
Pyri raised a brow, “And who are you?”
“That's not important, the important thing is: Where's Julie?”
“And why would I tell you that?”
“Well if you won't, I'll go find her myself!”
With that, he ran off, leaving Machine facing Pyri alone.
“Regardless of what that human is planning, your love will not be freed unless you agree to join me.”
Machine narrowed his eyes, “No.”
“No?”
Pyri stood up from her throne, “You have defied me for the last time, I'll have to teach you a lesson to get it through your thick skull.”
She charged at him, turning her hands into sharp blades, but Machine swiftly dodged her. Quickly, he turned his feet into the running blades, and began to attack.
He gave her a swift kick, hitting her stomach before she could slice at him, which she didn't take kindly to.
Machine was about to attack again when she managed to cut his chest, making him yelp in pain.
She smirked, “It's time to surrender cyborg! It will only get worse if you don't!”
“Never.”
With that, the spider-like appendages from his back appeared. Using them, he picked her up as she tried to attack her again and threw her against the wall.
She weakly got up, blood dripping from where she hit.
Regardless, Pyri wasn't about to give up either, “You are as strong as they say, but still, I'm not backing down!”
Despite her state, she aimed for him again, striking him with her tail.
Machine held himself for a moment before grabbing her tail, using it to pick her up and smashing her down on the floor.
More blood spilled out, and Pyri appeared drained.
He walked over to her, “Are you ready to surrender?”
The shouts of the revolutionaries were outside, they were getting closer and closer to the throne room.
Pyri closed her eyes, “Fine, just do it! Kill me already! Before they get here!”
“No. I'm done with violence, I'm done with fighting, I'm done with killing. Besides, I'm not a fyralogin, it's not my place to decide your fate, I'll let them do that.”
“No! No! No! You…”
The revolutionaries charged in, including Mark, Vivian and Asteri. Mark and Vivian ran over to Machine, while Asteri went to Pyri.
“Looks like someone has made things much easier for us.”
She grabbed her arms, followed by the other revolutionaries and they dragged a kicking and screaming Pyri out of the room.
Machine watched the sight, “Are they…planning to kill her?”
Vivian shrugged, “No idea.”
Mark searched around the room, trying to ignore the blood, “Where's Julie?”
“John went to look for her.”
“John? Wait…how'd he get here?”
“I have no idea..”
—----------------
While the fight had happened, Scazard searched the palace for Julie, coming across a tower. He sneaked through a secret passageway when he spotted her.
Julie, with a bodyguard he presumed.
“Julie!”
He ran over to embrace her in a hug, she was caught off guard by his presence, but still hugged him back.
“John? What are you doing here?”
“Oh darling, it's a long story, I have much to explain, if you don't mind.”
“Go on,” She smiled.
So he told her everything, about him being a fyralogin, his real name and his assassin past, how he'd been looking for her and how he'd brought Kent, Sandra and Charlotte over.
Julie was stunned hearing everything, but regardless, she was happy to see him and was glad he was alright.
Scazard frowned, “I'm sorry, this is all my fault, you being here.”
“Don't beat yourself up, Cyn was going to find Machine regardless, chances are we all would've been together no matter what you did. You should apologize to Machine though.”
“Yeah…”
He eyed her dress, “Great outfit by the way! You look stunning!”
“Thank you..”
Scazard took her hand, “There's something I must tell you about too…when I came to Earth, I was aimless, just messing with people using my shapeshifting powers and travelling. But when I met you, everything changed. I found a purpose, and started to really feel like Earth was home now. Being on Embara again is nice…but it's not..home anymore, because you don't live there.”
Julie blushed, “I'm glad I could help you.”
“I love you darling.”
Her blush deepened, she wasn't surprised, she knew he haboured affections for her, and she'd even seriously considered him before Machine came into the picture. And while she loved him, she sensed lingering affections for John still remained.
“I care about you too.”
He happily embraced her in a hug.
She smiled, but still knew she had to break the news to him, “But I love Machine too.”
John frowned and squeezed her tighter, “Ugh, him?”
“Don't be too upset, I'll always be by your side, you'll always have me in some way or another.”
He held her hand again, and she continued, “I can give you those baking lessons, like you wanted. I was only unsure before because I was so focused on helping Machine.”
John smiled, “Don't worry about it. I'd love for you to teach me.”
—---------
They soon arrived in the throne room, where Julie ran over and had a group hug with Machine, Mark and Vivian.
In that time, Kent, Sandra and Charlotte had showed up too and joined in on the hug.
John stayed back for a moment before shrugging his shoulders and specifically only hugging Julie.
She smiled, everyone of them had came to save her, Mark and Vivian had their revolutionary group but she knew they had to have heard about her getting kidnapped and were worried.
Knowing that and having everyone so close together, Julie thought that maybe she wasn't so alone after all. And well…both John and Machine loved her dearly, and she'd helped them out in different ways, she considered herself lucky for that.
Their hug was interrupted by Asteri walking in, “Pyri has been taken care of, I'm the new empress now.”
The group broke up their hug and Machine's eyes widened, “What do you mean by “taken care of"?”
“She's of no threat anymore, she has no power. She can't do anything. And with me here, I will work on making sure the transition of power is smooth…and a lot of other stuff….” Asteri sighed, “It'll be hard work, but it'll be worth it.”
“Well that's good.”
Asteri went over to Mark and Vivian, “You two were very brave, I hope return to your home planet is smooth.”
“I'll take care of that,” Scazard spoke up.
She looked at him when he transformed into his alien appearance, surprising her, “Are you…?”
“The shapeshifting assasin? Yes, I'm the very one.”
“You'd be a great asset here you know, and the assassin's guild has been looking for you.”
“Thanks but….I have a new home now, Embara isn't the place for me anymore. I'd rather be on Earth,” He glanced back at Julie with a smile, and she smiled back.
Asteri sensed what was going on, “Ah well…hope you two are happy.”
Machine huffed at the implications, making Julie giggle.
Cyn then made his way inside, stunned seeing Asteri there, no Pyri and a lot of blood.
“...Pyri?”
“She's not the empress anymore,” Asteri glared.
“Well…then are you?”
“Yes.”
He ran over to her and flicked his tail, “Your Imperial Majesty.”
She sighed.
Scazard focused on the group, “My ship is here, we can go back to Earth on it.”
Julie nodded, “Sounds great.”

chapter 14, shorter this time, but important to set up chapter 15
prologue chapter 1 chapter 2 chapter 3 chapter 4 chapter 5 chapter 6 chapter 7 chapter 8 chapter 9 chapter 10 chapter 11 chapter 12 chapter 13
Pyri was reaching a boiling point, none of her plans worked. She needed to be more strategic…
After thinking it over, she came up with the perfect plan: she was going to kidnap Julie. She was clearly his weakness, Pyri knew she could take advantage of the cyborg’s love for his delicate human for her own personal gain.
And she knew just the way to do it.
She ordered her soldiers to track down Julie and Machine, and that once they found them, to kidnap Julie and bring her to the palace unharmed.
Once that was achieved, Pyri found herself staring at Julie's sleeping form.
She was so fragile looking, so soft and dainty, Pyri couldn't understand how a powerful warrior like the cyborg was in love with her. It was baffling.
Pyri remembered how humiliated Julie appeared in her outfit at the dance, so had her servants put her in those exact clothes again, hoping to embarrass her like last time.
When Julie finally woke up, she panicked, noting she was at the palace and not with Machine, and was wearing her ball gown.
She watched as soon, Pyri approached her with a smirk on her face, “You're awake, good.”
“Wha…why am I here? Is this about Machine?”
“Is that what the cyborg calls himself?” She asked mockingly, “Well it doesn't matter to me. The important thing is, I'm using you as bait for him. I will promise him your freedom if he joins me, and he will come for you. That's just how fools in love are.”
“Please don't hurt him…”
“I won't, he'll be more of use to me in good shape than if he was hurt. And as for you…”
Pyri directed her guards towards a room, “Guards, take her to that room, make sure she doesn't get out.”
Julie struggled as she was carried off, feeling alone and humiliated didn't help. She was so worried about Machine, and Mark and Vivian too, only hoping everyone was okay..
—---------
When Machine awoke, he noticed Julie wasn't with him as she had been last night. It sent him into a panicked worry, what didn't help is he knew exactly who took her.
Pyri.
It was clearly a trap, but he didn't care. Julie was more important to him than himself, so saving her was his top priority.
He exited the building they'd been staying in, and made his way towards the palace, intent on saving the woman he loved.
—----------
Meanwhile, Scazard finally arrived on Embara, alongside Sandra, Kent and Charlotte. The whole time, Scazard had been so worried about Julie, unsure what was going with her and hoping for the best, while the others were concerned about everyone.
Walking around the city of Infernia felt strange for Scazard, this was where he grew up, in a building on the outskirts owned by the assassin's guild.
There was a time when he dreamed of coming back, but those days were long gone. Now he felt uneasy and like a stranger in a place that was once his home.
The trio trailed behind him, taking in the sights of the alien world in awe and amazement.
As they walked, they noted Machine, and the trio ran over to him, calling out for him.
Machine was surprised and joined up with them, with Scazard also reluctantly joining the group.
Sandra smiled, “You're here! Where's Mark, Vivian and Julie?”
“Mark and Vivian are off looking for a revolutionary group and may have found them by now. But as for Julie, she's been kidnapped.”
Scazard’s eyes went dark, “By who?”
Machine was surprised, but answered him, “Pyri. I know she's just trapping me, using another scheme to get me to join her, but I don't care. I'm saving Julie regardless.”
“I'm joining you,” Scazard replied. He was reluctant to ally with his romantic rival, but Julie was in danger, and she needed all the help she could get.
“So am I!” Charlotte joined in.
“Same here,” Sandra agreed.
“Me too!” Kent grinned.
Machine nodded.
“Then let's go.”
—------------
Back in the palace, Julie stared out the window of her room sadly, when Pyri walked in.
“And how is the prisoner doing?”
Julie didn't look at her, “I'm fine.”
“How easily you submit to your conditions,” She sneered.
Julie tried to ignore her hurt feelings, and her mind wandered. She remembered Pyri was planning to conquer Earth, and finally turned to look at her, “Will…you at least treat the people of Earth well?”
Pyri laughed, “Oh, no. If they're as fragile and delicate as you, they deserve no respect. Everything I've seen shows how weak humans are compared to fyralogins, you can't even do this!”
She changed her hand to a knife before turning it back to normal, “I will enslave your people, take your resources and leave your planet a husk when I'm finished.”
Julie placed her hands together, “Please…there is so much to value about humanity. Every person is unique, with their own thoughts, feelings, hobbies, interests and loved ones. There is so much amazing culture and history, so many sights to see, so much love and beauty. We may not be as advanced as you, but we have so much to offer.”
Pyri scoffed, “Reduced to pleading? How pathetic. But no, nothing will change my mind. I have my sights set on your planet, and I highly doubt humanity has anything to offer that matches up to fyralogins.”
She stared right at Julie with a smirk, “I have conquered many planets before, also filled with weak, inferior beings. Earth and humans will be no different.”
And with that, she left.
Julie placed her hands on the door, wishing to make a final plea, no matter how much it wouldn't be of use, wondering as well if she didn't try hard enough.
She felt so sorry for the others Pyri had conquered, they too must've fought back with all their might. If her friends were to succeed in overthrowing Pyri, it would only be because of the revolutionaries and being on Embara itself. Neither of which the others that failed had.
And she knew that there had to have been groups that successfully fought Pyri off too, which of course with her ego and pride was something she'd never admit.
That thought gave her hope, as she resumed to staring out the window, wishing for the best.

here's chapter 13
prologue chapter 1 chapter 2 chapter 3 chapter 4 chapter 5 chapter 6 chapter 7 chapter 8 chapter 9 chapter 10 chapter 11 chapter 12
With Mark and Vivian, the two traveled the Embaran landscape together.
Unbeknownst to them, Cyn had noticed them wandering off on their own and, finding it suspicious, decided to follow them. He had to see what they were up to.
Mark and Vivian were just relaxing on a subway to Volo together, with Vivian's head resting on Mark's shoulder, making him smile.
Their relationship was…complex…they both knew they loved each other, but actually confronting those feelings was another manner. So they stayed in a weird “dating but not actually dating” and “friends with benefits” type of relationship.
At the very least…they could enjoy moments like this together.
They watched the people on the subway, living their lives, prompting Mark to think aloud, “I wonder…just how much they're restricted..you know?”
“It'll be alright,” She reassured him, “Soon we'll be in Volo and soon…we'll come after Pyri..”
—---------
When enough time passed, the train stopped at Volo and they stepped out.
Now to find that group…
Volo was a small farming town, as it turned out. They could see a large section in the distance where crops were being harvested by high tech equipment, and someone outside surveying the work.
They thought to ask but…figured that the revolutionary group was an open secret the residents weren't going to tell just anyone about, so they searched on their own.
Mark and Vivian walked around, with people staring at them, not used to the presence of humans.
Soon, they made their way through a small canyon, and on the other side was a house with a large tent nearby. They stepped forward when someone quickly went up and pointed a gun at them, “Halt! Who are you? Spies for Pyri?”
They raised their hands in the air, with Vivian having an annoyed expression on her face, “We're not, think about it, why would she send us and not other fyralogins to do her dirty work?”
The person put their gun down, “Hm…well if you aren't here for Pyri, who are you here for?”
“Urila and Asteri, we're here to join the revolutionaries,” Mark explained.
“I see! I suppose Pyri is planning to conquer your planet?”
“That she is, we want to stop her.”
“Then come, Asteri will be happy to help stop a future conquest.”
They followed the revolutionary into the tent, where Asteri was in the midst of planning. She saw Mark and Vivian and was taken aback, but immediately guessed why they were there, “Pyri is going to conquer your planet isn't she?”
“Correct,” Vivian replied.
“Come on, let's get you all set up then.”
Mark and Vivian were given new outfits, with Vivian now wearing a black X-shaped crop top, a brown jacket, a brown belt, black pants and long black boots.
On the other hand, Mark was wearing a green crop top with matching pants, brown gloves, a brown belt and long dark brown boots.
They admired each other in their outfits with Vivian giving a flirty wink, “Nice to see you in a crop top again hm?”
“Could say the same to you!”
Asteri interrupted them, “Come now, I must tell you of our plans.”
She led them to a meeting center where other revolutionaries were, and pointed to a map, “In a few days time, we are going to gear up to attack the city of Infernia, namely the palace where Pyri resides. Our group effort should allow us to easily defeat her and her army. We will inspire the people too, motivate the common fyralogin to rise up and stand up for themselves…and all of us.”
The others nodded in agreement.
Asteri continued, “Pyri's power has already been weakened. The assassin's guild here has been paid generously to carry out different assassinations, thanks to yours truly. They sent out their best assassin, Scazard, to do it, thanks to his full body shapeshifting abilities. Problem is…he hasn't been seen in a long time, nobody knows where he went off to.”
Someone spoke up, “I bet someone caught onto him and he left!”
“Where would he go? To another planet?”
Asteri nodded, “From what I know, Scazard was an orphan, it's not like he has any family to turn to. The assassin's guild found him as a baby and took him in due to his abilities.”
She sighed, “The assassin's guild has still been carrying out assassinations, but I've had enough time to wait. We're going to do this, I am taking the throne whether Pyri likes it or not.”
—------------
Later on, Asteri entered the house, followed by Mark and Vivian, who she allowed to be close by, “It's important you truly understand the gravity of what you're dealing with,” she explained.
There, they saw Urila, who had a solemn look on her face, “It's not safe my dear, you know what Pyri is capable of.”
“Mom, we've had these conversations so many times! I refuse to back down, not when she is terrorizing not just our people, but the galaxy,”
Asteri gestured towards Mark and Vivian, “These two are even from a planet she is intending to conquer. And I won't allow that to happen.”
Urila stared at Mark and Vivian, “Let me tell you something…Pyri is my sister. She was angry, bitter and jealous that our brother was heir to the throne, she was power hungry and felt she was being treated unfairly, she wanted all the attention on her. Things built up to a boiling point during an argument one night, she and our father got into a screaming match where he told her her place was as a spare and so…”
She sniffled, “Pyri took matters in her own hands. She slaughtered our family, including my husband. Only Asteri and I were left, we had to hide and pretend we were only missing, as part of her cover up scheme.”
Then she went right up to them, “Pyri will enslave your people, make them do her dirty work, not care about their wants and needs, and she will do it all with a smirk on her face.”
“Mom!” Asteri placed a hand on her arm, “You're right but you're kinda freaking them out…”
Mark and Vivian appeared absolutely terrified, and were sweating.
Urila sighed, “It's just important that they know what they're up against. I haven't done anything since I won't let my daughter and I suffer the same fate. Pyri wants there to be no heirs left, and as long as we're alive, that guarantees she has competition, someone who could take her power away.”
“We have to think about other people,” Asteri countered, “Hiding away won't change anything, it just makes things worse.”
Cyn was watching the scene, it stunned him to know Pyri still had family left! But that meant he could do something for her, something that could make her proud…
As the group continued to talk to each other, Cyn snuck up behind and stabbed Urila in the chest.
She gasped and stared at the knife, all the while, Cyn was about to aim for Asteri but she angrily fought him off and chased him away as Mark and Vivian set Urila down.
Mark panicked, “This is our fault! If it wasn't for us…”
“Hush,” Vivian interrupted, “We didn't know Cyn was following us.”
“But-”
Asteri ran over, tears in her eyes, “Mom! Please! You're going to be okay!”
“No…I'm not..” Urila however, looked content, accepting her fate, “I'm sorry my dear. You were right…we should've done something. I'm a coward..I was so afraid of losing you and my own life that I stood by and let Pyri continue her reign of terror…but now…”
She weakly placed a hand on Asteri's cheek, “Promise me something…promise you will overthrow Pyri.”
“I will! I will…I promise..”
“I love you.”
Urila gently caressed her cheek before her hand went down and her eyes closed.
“No! No! Mom!”
Mark and Vivian walked away, letting Asteri grieve alone. The sobs only made Mark feel worse.
Eventually, Asteri went over to them, she saw the look of guilt on Mark's face, “Do not blame yourself for this. I think Pyri always knew my mom and I survived and wanted to find us. Us being alive at all was always risky.”
Vivian brushed away some tears from Mark's face before looking at Asteri, “We will avenge your mother, I promise.”
Asteri weakly smiled at that, “Thank you. You are both very brave. What do you know how to do?”
“I took some self defense classes,” Vivian replied, “On Earth, women are seen as inferior…I've always been underestimated for being one. People laughed at me taking them, they weren't laughing when I kicked their asses though.”
Asteri managed to chuckle a little, “Good,” Then she focused on Mark, “And you?”
“Oh I'm not a fighter. But I have charm! And I'm funny! And I can dance..”
“That's good too! You'd be a good morale booster.”
“I appreciate it!”
—--------------
The trio returned to the tent, where Mark ended up falling asleep and Vivian and Asteri chatted.
“So you say women are considered inferior on Earth?”
Vivian sighed, “Yes…I'm studying law and have dealt with men mocking me over it. People don't take me seriously, but I'm dedicated to what I do. My father is a judge, and I was inspired to study law because of him and seeing all the rights women around the world lack. And my mother…she was forced by people around her to give up her job after my twin sister and I were born. It is seen as a woman's job to stay home while her husband works, but I wasn't about to live that kind of life.”
“I'm sorry to hear that,” Asteri frowned, “but…I assume Mark here isn't that kind of person.”
Vivian looked over at him and lovingly smiled. He was slumped over as he slept, with drool coming out of his mouth.
“Yes…he's not like that.”
Asteri noted the look on Vivian's face, “You like him, I can tell.”
Vivian blushed, “What? I..uh..”
“I see it on your face! But I understand, he seems sweet. Why haven't you said anything yet?”
“Well I…I'm bisexual, and on Earth, people look down on those attracted to the same gender. Sure Mark isn't a girl…but if he was? It's hard to deal with..”
Asteri gave her a sympathetic smile, “It's hard, but you have to tell him eventually. You'll regret it if you don't.”
“Oh well he has his problems too…emotionally…that's why he hasn't said anything either, how could we be in a relationship if we can't talk about our feelings?”
“Neither of you can avoid this forever, you'll never change if you keep doing that.”
“I suppose…”
Asteri then watched the stars and frowned, “I'm going to avenge my mother.”
Vivian didn't say anything, just silently nodded in agreement.
Not hearing Vivian reply, Asteri continued, “I have nothing left to lose now that she's gone. I think…in some ways she was holding me back just as she was holding herself back. And now, I will continue to have nothing if I don't claim my birthright and take the throne.”
“I…understand..”
Vivian placed a hand on Mark's back and gently caressed it as he continued to sleep, and just like Asteri, she too watched the stars, wondering how the revolution would go.

chapter 12, with some NSFW this time
prologue chapter 1 chapter 2 chapter 3 chapter 4 chapter 5 chapter 6 chapter 7 chapter 8 chapter 9 chapter 10 chapter 11
With the knowledge that Pyri was planning to conquer Earth, the group knew they had to do something to stop her.
Desiring to help, Sei and Laav informed them of the revolutionary group, Laav spoke up first, “From what our son has informed us, the group is camped out in the small town of Volo, and it is led by Asteri, who is Pyri's niece.”
Mark was confused, “But Viv and I read a book claiming Pyri's family mysteriously disappeared…” It hit him, “Unless…there's a cover up?”
“We were confused too, but apparently Asteri and Urila, Pyri's sister, are still alive,” Sei replied.
Vivian stood up, “I'll go to Volo then. Those revolutionaries are our best chance to stop Pyri, and in the process, that will save your people and countless others across the galaxy.”
Mark stood up with her, “I'll go too.”
They shared a smile before Sei spoke up, “Here, take this map.”
She handed them the map to Volo with her prosthetic arm, and Vivian took it.
“Thank you,” Vivian then turned to Mark, “let's get going.”
The two said their goodbyes, and then, they were off.
Julie had a worried expression as she watched them go, “I hope they'll be okay..”
Machine put a hand on her shoulder, “They should be fine.”
She smiled at him, appreciating his attempt to reassure her.
Laav walked over to them, “You two should go into hiding. After…yesterday…Pyri knows where you are.”
Machine nodded and grabbed Julie's hand, “You're right.”
—-------------
The two walked around the city, before making their way to the outskirts and heading inside an abandoned building.
Julie sat down on a couch with a sigh, “I can't believe we have to do this…”
“It's for the best.”
“I know but…I wish…things could be better.”
“It's alright…”
It was clear to Julie that Machine had no idea what he was doing, but she appreciated it regardless, the gesture alone was enough for her.
“You're sweet, you know that?”
He blushed, “I...even after everything?”
She nodded, “I care about how you are now, not how you were back then. And you have a kind heart, you're gentle, curious, caring, cute…”
Julie's face went red when she realized what she said, and Machine's blush deepened.
“You…think I'm cute?”
She could only nod again at that.
“I…um…appreciate it…”
They stared at each other for what felt like forever, before Machine held onto her face.
Julie was so beautiful, the image of perfection in his eyes. Despite everything he'd done, despite the way he looked, she still cared for him and had always been kind to him. She treated him like a human being when most others saw him as an object, a weapon instead.
With those feelings of love bursting in his mind, he leaned forward, thinking of those romance movies he'd seen.
She knew exactly what he was looking to do and didn't stop him, instead leaning in as well.
Then, they were locked in a soft kiss. The love they felt for each other came out through its gentleness and passion.
After they pulled away, they stared at each other again until Julie spoke up, “That was…wonderful…”
“It was?” He blushed.
“I…I love you…”
“I love you too..”
With that, she embraced him in a tight hug, holding him close to her. He happily embraced her back.
Machine let his fingers run through her red hair, “You are…amazing…and I've never seen a sight as lovely as you. You make me feel such strange things…”
“Like what?” She asked.
“I feel so warm and flushed around you, hot and sweaty. Sometimes my gaze lingers around every inch of you which just makes those feelings worse,” He explained.
Julie blushed, realizing what feelings he was experiencing, “You feel both love and..” She paused, “...lust..”
“Lust….” Machine pondered over that, “yes..lust…like when sometimes the khirens would give us androids specifically designed to deal with sexual pleasure. It kept us in control.”
Well, at least she knew from that that he had some kind of experience, not that she would've been upset if he was a virgin. But it would certainly make things better for her.
“Umm…I guess so..”
“If we have sex, would that ease my feelings?”
Her face was a deep red at that, “Uh…yeah it should help..”
“Should we get started then?”
“Yes…”
From there, Machine made the move to take off her dress, which she allowed. Then as she slipped off her shoes, he stared in awe at the sight of her in her bra and panties.
A lovely sight she indeed was.
He followed her, removing his own clothes, until he was naked.
Julie stared at him, he was cute for sure but in that moment, she thought about how handsome and sexy he was too..
Since he was already naked, Julie removed her underwear, and the sight of Julie naked very clearly had Machine's body reacting in excitement.
She stared at his erection, her own body responding by getting wet and aching, “Let's…take care of that..”
Julie moved in between his legs and began to teasingly lick the tip of his cock, making him gasp and buck his hips.
“Mmph..it feels so good..”
After a few more licks, Julie took him in her mouth, making him arch his back as he let out a loud moan.
Her mouth was so soft and warm, it was intoxicating. And her movements were slow and gentle, but he wanted more, so much more.
“Faster…please?”
Julie obeyed, moving off his cock with a wet pop, before sucking him off again, much faster this time.
She held onto his hips as he moaned and squirmed around, after everything that had happened, she was glad to be making him feel wonderful like this.
Machine was in utter bliss, his mind only able to think about Julie and the pleasure she was giving him. She was much better than those androids already.
The pressure was building up, and it was hard to hold himself back, “Ah…I think I'm gonna…cum..”
She continued to suck him off as he quickly came in her mouth, and she swallowed most of it eagerly.
“Was that good?”
“Really good..”
Julie noted he was only sweating a little and wasn't panting at all. She was confused, until she remembered that he'd mentioned having increased stamina.
A blush appeared on her cheeks as she realized he could go on for hours if he wanted to.
“Um…uh…do you…want to return the favour?”
“Oh yes please!”
Machine laid her down on the couch and eagerly moved between her legs, licking a long stripe over her pussy.
Julie moaned loudly from that, “Ah…Machine..”
The way she uttered his name in pleasure had him aching, he needed her, his sweet Julie.
In response, he ate her out eagerly, feasting on her pussy like she was his last meal. His tongue moved at a fast pace, and he couldn't get enough of her sweetness.
Julie thrashed around, he was pleasing her so well, she couldn't get enough either, and she loved how excited he was. No other guy had ever been like that with her, and she loved it. He made her feel so desired, and for who she was, not what some guy thought she should be.
Machine's mouth moved towards her clit and began to suck and nibble on it, making her gasp, “Don't stop..please…”
She held onto his head as he continued eating her out, until her fingers began to falter and she arched her back as she came.
He happily lapped up her release before pulling away, her cum dripping from his mouth.
“More…I want more..”
Julie spread her legs out, presenting herself to him, “Please take me…”
Nothing else needed to be said as Machine practically pounced on her and slowly shoved his cock inside her.
Just like with his pussy eating, when it came to fucking her, he was very eager, moving at a fast pace, at least after Julie had adjusted enough.
His pace was relentless, the fact he didn't need to worry about his stamina certainly helping. It made Julie an utter mess underneath, holding onto him as her eyes rolled back and her tongue began to hang out of her mouth.
“Mm yes! Machine! Don't stop!” She cried out.
“I love you…I love you…” Machine moaned as he nestled his face against her.
“I love you too!”
He shifted his angle ever so slightly, making Julie gasp, seeing as he hit her sweet spot, “Right there…please..”
The sound of her begging made his cock twitch, how could he refuse?
Machine fucked her hard and fast, his pace not slowing down for a second. He felt her pussy clench his cock and she quickly came all over him.
He followed soon after, and smiled as he watched her regain her breath.
She smiled back as he placed a kiss on her cheek, “You are perfect…”
“No you are!” He grinned and kept kissing her.
Julie giggled, “Another round?”
“Oh yes please!”
—-----------
In the morning, they were both tired and Julie found herself sore. Machine left briefly to find food for them, which he shared once he came back.
Julie looked at him warmly, “Last night was…wonderful..”
“We have to do that again,” He replied with a kiss.
“I have to admit…some guys have only wanted me for my looks, they see my red hair and expect me to be some fiery temptress, then get disappointed seeing who I really am..” Her smile faltered.
“How could someone not love you as you are?” Machine was stunned, Julie was perfect in his eyes, it was inconceivable that someone would be disappointed by her.
She sighed, “They just want sex, I've dealt with that with a lot of guys except…” Julie trailed off, not wanting to bring up John for fear of inciting jealousy.
Julie ignored her last sentence, “Some guys also think a woman being out by herself or with other women must mean they're only seeking male attention. Vivian and I have dealt with it before, Mark and um…are pretty good at chasing it off.”
Machine snorted, “I don't understand it.”
“Me either….”
His mind wandered, ever since Julie brought up her parents, he'd been curious about something, though worried it might be too insensitive to ask. So, he decided to check first.
“Julie…can I ask you something?”
“Sure, what is it?”
“Well it's about your parents…”
She frowned, but thought about it, maybe talking about them would help her deal with her feelings, “Yeah..you can ask about them.”
“What's it like to have a family?”
Julie quickly smiled again at that, understanding why he wanted to know, “Well…having a family is a wonderful thing. It's being surrounded with warmth and love, with people who care about you and have your best needs in mind. Sometimes your family is the one you're born into, but sometimes, you get to choose who your family is.”
Machine nodded, “Can you make one?”
“Yes, you could have children of your own…you could adopt…or…well I'd say we're practically a family with Mark and Vivian aren't we?” She giggled.
He smiled, “I would like to have a family.”
“So would I.”
From there, Julie told Machine stories about her own upbringing, which did indeed make her feel better and only caused Machine to desire a family more and more…
….with her.

chapter 11, the longest so far. it's...heavy. not fun.
prologue chapter 1 chapter 2 chapter 3 chapter 4 chapter 5 chapter 6 chapter 7 chapter 8 chapter 9 chapter 10
“Where are they?”
Pyri shouted in her throne room, seething after Cyn told her what happened and that when he awoke, they were gone.
He shook a little bit, “I will find them.”
“I will find them. And when I do, I have a present for the cyborg.”
—------------
The group had taken shelter with a sympathetic fyralogin couple. With Machine's help, they prepared some food and sat with them as they dug in.
Machine's presence made them nervous, but they were more scared of Pyri, motivating them to let the group stay.
Between the couple, the wife, Sei spoke up, “We have a son you know. He left to join a revolutionary group planning to overthrow Empress Pyri.”
Mark's eyes widened, “Really?”
“Yes, times like these breed fear and compliance but also..discontent. My mother was taken away for openly defying Empress Pyri, we haven't seen her since. That event caused our son to leave and join that group.”
The husband, Laav continued, “She will do something to you. All of you. I don't know exactly what you can do to save yourselves, hopefully the revolutionaries succeed…’
Machine grumbled, “She treats me like some trophy she can just show off.”
Sei sighed, “I can't say I'm surprised.”
—-----------
After the dinner, the group were shown their rooms and retired to bed.
Julie lay down on her back, relaxing as best she could when there was a knock at her door, “Come in!”
It was Machine, who was balancing himself on only one of his prosthetic legs as he walked in, “I needed…to see you…”
He had a pained expression on his face, which she noticed with worry as he sat down on the bed.
“What's the matter?”
“Pain…in my…well…where my limbs were.”
Julie sat up, “It's alright, I'm here.”
She smiled at him as she gently caressed his sides, trying to soothe him. With her being a nurse, she recognized he was dealing with phantom pain…unfortunately any way to treat that was something she didn't have access to.
“Nghh…it feels…like I'm burning..”
He leaned his head against hers. Yesterday he'd used it to headbutt Cyn and knock him out, now he was using it to seek comfort from Julie.
Machine knew this was the result of his last amputation, which was one of his legs. These pain sensations happened every time afterwards, he thought he'd be used to it by now but he wasn't.
Julie felt like she could cry seeing him in such a state, she cared about him so much and didn't know what she could do, outside of what she was already doing.
“I'm sorry…”
“For what?”
“That I can't do more…I hate seeing you like this..”
Tears began to fall down her cheeks, and despite his own pain, Machine tried comforting her right back, “Just having you here…it…ngh…it's enough for me…”
He wiped her tears away, and she smiled again through them.
The two held each other close in silence, until Machine felt the pain disappear.
“I'm…better now..”
“I'm glad.”
“I…” He blushed and shyly turned his head away, “Can I stay with you tonight?”
Julie blushed back, “Oh…that would be…wonderful…”
Machine removed his prosthetics and laid down on the bed with her. He couldn't help but cuddle close, not wanting to be separated.
She loved having him so close too, her heart beat fast in her chest at it, and he looked so cute falling asleep. Julie noted the way he moved around as he got himself comfortable and the way his nose scrunched up.
The urge to kiss him overtook her, but she pushed it aside, not knowing how he'd feel about that. She knew she was growing to like him, but did he feel the same way about her?
Regardless, she took the time to enjoy his company. Julie wrapped her arms around him as the two drifted to sleep, peaceful and content together.
—---------
Unbeknownst to everyone in the house, Pyri snuck in. With the aid of her guards, she'd found where Machine was located.
The sight of Julie and Machine cuddling was amusing in a silly manner to her, but also reinforced her desire to keep them separate. His love for her helped tie him to his humanity, that's why she had to go.
Placing a chip on Machine's neck made her smirk, because it was going to ensure Julie was indeed going to die.
—-------------
Machine woke up in the morning, and found himself staring at Julie as she slept next to him.
His brain felt so strange, it was sending him mixed signals; on one hand it was saying he should snuggle against her further, on the other hand, it was saying he should kill her.
But he was conflicted, he didn't know why. His mind was fighting an internal war and he hated it.
Why couldn't he just kill her?
Sounds came from the hallway and his head instantly faced the source of them: Mark and Vivian.
With that, he got up, put his prosthetics back on and chased after them.
Mark and Vivian panicked, unsure what was going on as they ran away from him.
“What happened? Machine?” Vivian called out.
“Look at his robotic eye!” Mark pointed out.
Normally, Machine's eyes were connected to each other, the pupils and eyelids moving in sync. But this time, the robotic eye, usually black with a red pupil and red lines coming out of it, glowed pure red, there was no longer any trace of black left.
It was admittedly terrifying.
“Is that even him anymore?” Vivian shuddered.
“I don't think so!”
They tried to dodge his attacks, Machine making moves to punch and kick them.
But something was off, yesterday he'd shown such force towards Cyn, enough to make the other man bleed. And now, none of his attacks drew any blood at all, not to mention the lack of those spider-like appendages.
“Is he…holding himself back?” Mark wondered aloud.
“And where is Julie? Did he hurt her?”
“Julie…Julie…” Machine chanted her name at the mention of it, almost as if in a trance.
At that, Julie nervously walked into the hallway, “What's going on?”
Hearing her voice, Machine's head snapped towards her and he began walking over to her.
“Julie, get away! He's not acting right, he was attacking us!” Vivian warned
Julie backed away slowly as he approached her, her mind racing. What had happened to him?
“Machine?”
Hearing his chosen name made him stop dead in his tracks.
His hands clutched his head, that internal war in his mind returning.
He thought of how he woke up to being snuggled up in bed with her, she was so beautiful, so peaceful and serene. For some reason, he just couldn't bear to kill her.
Even now that same part of him refused…
With him standing around, Mark finally noticed something, “There's a chip on the back of his neck!”
“How do we get it off?” Vivian asked.
Julie decided to be brave, she was going to be the one to take it off herself.
She slowly approached him, “Machine…I know you're in there..”
Machine made no move to do anything to her, instead he stood still, internally fighting against the chip's orders to kill her.
“Julie! What are you doing?” Vivian called out.
“I'm…going to save him..”
She wrapped her arms around Machine, tears welling in her eyes, “I care a lot about you…you're one of my best friends..don't you remember all the moments we spent together? Like that night watching the stars?”
Julie's words kept Machine still, the memory of their night together being mentioned brought it all back to him and calmed him further.
Seeing this, Julie located the chip and ripped it off. It landed on the floor and she crushed it with her foot.
Machine gasped, finally back to normal, “Huh? What? What happened?”
Before Julie could answer, Pyri stormed over. Unbeknownst to the group, she'd been watching them since they woke up.
“What happened is you were supposed to kill your friends!”
“Wha..what?”
“But it failed! And if I can't get someone else to kill your friends, and if I can't get you to do it then..”
She smirked, “I will reveal the true purpose of the khiren's cybernetic army: to conquer the galaxy, hoping to be the dominant species.”
Machine eyes widened, everything hitting him all at once. A horrified expression crossed his face, from the books he read with Julie, he knew exactly what that entailed.
What had the khirens done that he unknowingly helped with?
He knelt down and held his face with his hands, lost in thought.
Pyri was pleased to see his reaction, “You pathetic humans are inferior to fyralogins! And now that I know of your primitive planet, I am going to conquer it. And there is nothing you can do about it.”
She laughed wickedly as she left, her bodyguards following close behind her.
Instead of turning against him, Julie instead knelt down with Machine and wrapped her arms around him, “It's okay…it's not your fault..”
“Yes it is! Do you have any idea of all the wars the khirens have participated in? All the ones they won? I was considered one of the best soldiers. If I wasn't so good…”
He was unable to continue, breaking down into sobs. Thoughts raced through his mind.
They must secretly hate me now.
Especially if they knew of everything I've done.
Do I even deserve to live after all of it?
“But you didn't even know, you had no idea what you were doing and weren't given a way to,” Mark pointed out.
“But I still did it!”
The urge to reveal every terrible thing he'd ever done came to mind, just to be reassured that maybe they wouldn't hate him even if they knew.
“You know what else I did…I saw an innocent family once, caught in the crossfire. I thought I should help them, but my superiors wouldn't allow it, and they died!”
“You tried to help, that's what matters,” Julie gently replied.
But her reassurance seemed to do nothing to ease his state, he remained sobbing instead.
Vivian put her hands on her hips, “Machine, it doesn't matter what you did in the past. You are not that anymore, and you weren't in control of your own life. What matters is the here and now.”
“Even though I just tried to kill you guys?”
“That may have been your body, but it wasn't your mind. We know you'd never actually do that. Besides, you never hurt Julie, and you went easy on Mark and I.”
Machine sniffled, and Julie thought about something before making her decision, “Machine…I know how you feel..”
He was stunned by that, “You do?”
“A few years ago, I finally got a house of my own. My parents were naturally excited and came to visit, but on the drive there, the weather was bad and…” She teared up a little, “They got into a car accident and died.”
His eyes widened, and he went to wipe her tears away.
She smiled through them before frowning again, “I blamed myself for it. I felt so alone, so guilty and upset. I knew I didn't really do it…but guilt isn't always rational. And even when it is, it's better to allow yourself to change and move on. Wallowing in your past mistakes won't do anything.”
Julie returned his gesture by wiping his own remaining tears away, and he embraced her in a hug.
“I could never hate you.”
Mark knelt down and joined in the hug, “Neither could I.”
Vivian joined in too, “Same here. We're your friends. Friends don't abandon each other, not without good reason. I won't hate you for things that aren't your fault.”
Machine teared up again, but this time from joy, “Thank you..”
—-------------
Later on, Julie and Vivian chatted with Sei and Laav, explaining everything that happened that morning, while Machine sat on the window of his room, watching the city and lost in thought.
Mark walked in and smiled, “What's up?”
“Just thinking…”
“About what?”
“It's just…hard…to shake away feelings of guilt..no matter what..”
Mark frowned and sat beside him, “You know…when I first met you, I didn't trust you.”
“What?”
“Don't worry…it's not your fault. It's just…hard to trust people in general, people can be cruel. But I can see how much you care especially for Julie, I think you're a good person at heart.”
“Well…thank you..”
Mark eyed the city too for a moment, “And I know what it feels like to not have control of your own life.”
Machine was surprised by that, “You do?”
He nodded, “I grew up in a world that said you had to be a certain way, if you're a boy or a girl. Girls were raised with the expectations to be housewives and mothers, to be good and obedient, and boys raised with the expectations to be the breadwinners,” He realized Machine wouldn't know what that meant, “That is, they were expected to go to work and make money for their family. They were expected to be strong, to not show any weaknesses, to be smart and athletic.”
Mark sighed, “So as you can guess, that's how I was raised. But I couldn't live up to what society expected of me, I wasn't smart, I wasn't into sports, I was scared and shy, I was passive. And my parents were no help, trying to force me to be that typical manly man. My father believed traditional gender roles and families led to stability, he thought I would be miserable if I didn't have that, and my mother had her life ruined by those same traditional gender roles. She wanted to be something greater than a secretary, but societal pressure forced her to abandon that once she married my father. So she hated and resented both of us.”
He began to tear up, and noticing that, wiped his tears away, “It wasn't easy growing up with parents that hated each other and took it out on me, in a society that demanded conformity, and in a world plagued by war and hatred. I had to do duck and cover drills in school, which means I had to hide under a desk in case of a nuclear bomb. I was so afraid that it was going to happen one day, wondering if today was my last.”
Then, a smile appeared, “Everything changed with the rise of the hippie movement. I found my people, I met Sandra, Charlotte and Kent there. For the first time in my life, I was accepted and loved for who I was. And then I met Julie and Vivian, and they only helped further. I used to be a different person, I was miserable, shy, passive and scared, but through my friends, I was able to thrive. I saw through this war called the Vietnam War how awful war truly was, and that the government was untrustworthy. I was surrounded by violence and cruelty my whole life, and from there dedicated myself to preventing other people from suffering the way I had to. The world can be cruel, but we don't have to be cruel back.”
Machine paused, “Do you..hate me for being a soldier? For participating in colonialism? Even though I didn't know I was..”
Mark shook his head, “You said yourself you didn't know. You were intentionally kept in the dark, and forced into that life as a baby, way too young to have any agency. But now you can finally have control, make your own choices, be your own person.”
Machine smiled, “Thank you..”

chapter 10, when things really start heating up
prologue chapter 1 chapter 2 chapter 3 chapter 4 chapter 5 chapter 6 chapter 7 chapter 8 chapter 9
It wasn't just Pyri that was interested in the idea of having a khiren soldier on their side, the remaining nobility and high ranking army members shared that desire.
And so, in order to show Machine off, Pyri organized a ball.
One of her servants arrived in the rooms of the group, knocking on their doors and requesting to speak with them together.
“What is it?” Machine asked in an annoyed tone.
“Her Imperial Majesty requests you all attend her upcoming ball. She also told me to say that none of you have a choice.
He groaned, “Ugh. Whatever.”
“Excellent!”
Soon, attendants arrived, bringing fancy fyralogins clothing for them to wear. They reluctantly dressed in the clothes, with Julie finding herself particularly embarrassed by the dress she was put in; it was white with a long slit in the skirt that showed off one of her legs, and exposed a good amount of cleavage.
Machine blushed at the sight of her, “You uh…look great..”
“Thank you…” She blushed back.
Mark and Vivian were also placed in revealing clothes, but there was less embarrassment for them, they'd already seen each other naked.
“Wonder why we're being forced into some ball?” Vivian asked.
“Well…whatever the reason, let's make the most of it!” Mark grinned.
—----------------
The ball was formal and stiff, people walked around in their fancy clothes, drinking, eating and quietly dancing.
Pyri sat down in an elegant chair, watching the crowd, with other nobles surrounding her.
They were all eyeing Machine, who had just stepped in with the others. He gulped, he hated being watched and he knew Pyri had bad intentions with him.
Mark frowned seeing how boring the ball appeared, “We need to lighten this place up, come on Viv.”
She smirked and followed him, the two making it to the center and beginning to dance.
They did the hustle together, moving their hips and arms and dancing in unison, big smiles on their faces. Being together helped too, it wouldn't be as fun if they were dancing alone.
Julie and Machine watched from a distance, not interested in dancing. But they were at least happy to see Mark and Vivian enjoying themselves.
Machine watched as Julie simply swayed along to the beat, she looked so cheerful and beautiful…and boy was that outfit doing things to him that he was trying to ignore.
Mark raised his finger in the air as his hips moved around, Vivian quickly copied him and they smiled at each other.
The fyralogins in attendance watched them with amusement, they didn't understand their strange human dance moves, but were happy to try and participate, some starting to follow along.
As a result, the atmosphere lit up, which Pyri and the nobles found unamusing. She also didn't like that Machine was hiding away, she wanted him front and center but he refused.
She also noted Julie and Machine sitting together, Machine staring at Julie and Julie occasionally looking embarrassed at how revealing the outfit was. It was clear those two held affections for each other, and Pyri didn't like that one bit.
And now her subjects were participating in the human dance moves, along with traditional dance moves from across Embara.
Machine's friends were too much of a hindrance, she had to get rid of them.
Until then, it was time to put everyone in order.
“Enough!”
Everyone in the room stopped dancing, and watched her fearfully, Mark and Vivian included, they recalled that law book after all.
“Remain in order, or else.”
That threat put a stop to the lively dancing, and the fyralogins went back to slower moves.
Mark and Vivian stared at each other in worry before leaving to join Julie and Machine.
Vivian grumbled, “I really don't like being here.”
Mark nodded, “It was kinda fun at first…but now…”
Machine nodded solemnly before glaring at Pyri, she could not be trusted.
—---------------
The group tried to go for a walk to clear their heads the next day, but the world was unraveling around them. Every little thing they noted only made them more aware that Embara was a dictatorship and the people lived in fear.
Their walk was soon swiftly interrupted by Cyn, who arrived wielding a high tech gun, and pointed it at Julie, Mark and Vivian, “Orders from Pyri, nothing personal.”
Machine's eyes narrowed, he didn't want to fight anymore, but Cyn had left him with no choice. No one was going to hurt his friends, not on his watch.
Swiftly, he removed his boots and his feet quickly shifted into running blades, before he charged at Cyn.
Machine noted the fear in Cyn's eyes as he approached him, the fool should've known this was coming.
That fear allowed Machine to get the first hit in, punching his cheek using his robotic fist, creating a clanging noise.
Cyn was briefly disoriented, and there was a bruise on his cheek. Machine waited for him to get back to normal before unleashing his spider-like appendages and grabbing him with them. He threw the general on the ground, and hard. Cyn landed with a thud, and his body was becoming pained.
“Weren't you taught how to fight against cybernetic warriors?” Machine sneered, almost mockingly.
Normally he wouldn't be so rough and brutal, he was typically more swift and cunning, but Machine was dedicated to not allowing Cyn to hurt his friends.
He'd be so alone without them, especially his dear Julie.
Cyn got up slowly, and began firing at Machine, who easily dodged the gunfire.
With a snarl, he tried to get more hands on, aiming for his own punch, but Machine grabbed his hand with his own easily, before making Cyn punch himself.
Cyn stumbled, “You…you dort!”
Whatever that meant, Machine rolled his eyes and headbutted him, knocking him down. It didn't help that the metal on Machine's cybernetic parts was painful; it was hard, sturdy and made of pure metal.
Therefore, it wasn't a shock that Cyn's forehead was bleeding, red blood trickling down onto his nose and mouth.
Machine put his hands on his hips, “Are you ready to give up?”
“No..no I…”
And just like that, Cyn passed out.
Machine grumbled, returned his feet to normal, got his boots back on and made his way to his friends.
They were all stunned into silence. Knowing Machine was powerful was one thing, seeing him brutally defeat and knock out another man cold was another.
And he appeared barely affected, to top it off.
“How…are you feeling?” Julie asked quietly.
“I'm good. But knowing Pyri was behind this…we should probably go.”
Everyone silently agreed, walking away to find shelter elsewhere.

sorry for the wait, here's chapter 9
prologue chapter 1 chapter 2 chapter 3 chapter 4 chapter 5 chapter 6 chapter 7 chapter 8
In the morning, the group were given breakfast that Machine scanned again, and headed outside back into the cityscape. This time, they made their way to a grand library, interested in the knowledge they could learn about this new world and its inhabitants.
Julie sifted through some books, deciding to read through one on history. She sat down and Machine followed her, “Pyri's father was the ruler before her, I only vaguely recall seeing him as a child.”
She read through the section on the royal family, “Apparently the royals minus Pyri mysteriously disappeared…no one knows what happened to them.”
He raised a brow, “I don't like the sound of that.”
As for Vivian and Mark, Vivian was reading through a book on Embaran law and was baffled at what she was reading, “They only allowed media approved by Pyri?”
Mark scowled, “So it's a dictatorship…”
“We'll have to keep our guard up then, she already doesn't like us.”
Mark rested his head on Vivian's shoulder as she continued to read through the book, and it only aided their suspicions; with policies such as monitoring the activities of the fyralogins, brutal repression in other planets in the empire and a lack of free speech. But all of it was spun in a positive manner.
They thought back to all the fyralogins they'd seen living their lives, and felt terrible for them, powerless and afraid for their own lives, as well as Julie and Machine's.
Scanning the building, they could see fyralogins reading.
They were people, just like them.
The two informed Julie and Machine of what they learned, and Julie found herself on edge, one wrong move and Pyri would be after her.
Machine noticed and frowned, placing a hand on her shoulder, “No need to worry, I won't let anything happen to you.”
“Thank you…” She blushed.
Unbeknownst to them, Cyn was spying on them. Observing the group, it was clear Machine cared for his friends, and that wasn't good. It was those bonds Cyn saw as preventing Machine from joining their army.
He informed Pyri of what he witnessed, and told her of his concerns. She thought over everything, if Machine's relationships with his friends were what was holding him back, all she needed to do was manipulate him against them. Those cybernetic warriors were sheltered and naive with anything outside of combat, it wouldn't be hard.
When the group returned to the palace, she found Machine alone and spoke to him, “How are things with your friends?”
“Why do you care?”
“Oh well…because I'm worried. You don't know a thing about friendship, correct?”
“Well…I guess…”
“Then how do you know they're really your friends? They could just be tricking you, you know.”
Machine's eyes narrowed, “I see what you're trying to do. But it's not going to work.”
Pyri snarled, “Why you-”
But she couldn't finish her sentence, he already started walking away.
Clearly she had underestimated him, which meant she needed a new plan…something far better..
—--------------
Back on Earth, John had taken notice that Julie had disappeared…well her friends did too but she was his only concern.
As a result, he created some missing person posters of her and placed them around the city:
Juliana “Julie” Lilian Kearney
Date of Birth: May 16th, 1951
Age: 27 years old
Sex: Female
Race: White
Eyes: Blue
Hair: Red
Height: 5’4”
Weight: 125lbs
Wearing: Purple and white pinafore dress with purple flats
Identifying Characteristics: Keeps one side of face covered by hair
He sighed, he really was worried about her. She hadn't been seen since the night at the bar, so he wondered if those events were connected. As a result, John blamed himself for her going missing and felt terrible about it.
Behind a streetlight, Kent, Charlotte and Sandra were spying on him out of suspicion. They took notice that he was only hanging up missing posters of Julie, and so, decided to confront him about it.
“Hey!” Charlotte yelled as she walked across the street with the other two.
John noted them and his demeanor changed, a smirk painting his face, “What seems to be the problem blondie?”
“Where are Mark, Vivian and Machine's posters?”
He laughed, “You think people here would care that the cyborg disappeared? And as for the brown haired and black haired ones, they're of no concern to me.”
“You bastard!”
Kent was about to punch him but John caught his fist, catching him off guard, “Continue to respond with aggression and I won't tell you of my suspensions.”
Sandra raised a brow, “Suspicions?”
“Poor sweet Julie…disappearing on that fateful night. But there's no sign of where she is, no clues that could lead us to her whereabouts. As a result…I suspect she's out in space.”
The trio gave him confused looks and Charlotte let out a “Huh?”
John cleared his throat, “Allow me to explain. First…you must know I am actually an alien assassin from the planet Embara, my real name is Scazard.”
They looked even more confused, and so he shapeshifted into his alien form quickly before returning back to a human, “It's a little quirk a rare few in my kind possess. All of us are capable of transformation, but only a few of us can do full body transformations.”
Sandra, Kent and Charlotte were too stunned to speak, so John..or rather…Scazard continued, “My kind, the fyralogins, have a long standing rivalry with the khirens. Both groups desire control of the galaxy and will do anything to achieve it. The khirens resorted to…less than moral methods, kidnapping babies across the galaxy to train and transform into cybernetically enhanced soldiers.”
He eyed them, “Your cyborg friend is one of them. The Embaran empress Pyri has longed to control one of those soldiers, I bet she learned of the cyborg making it to Earth and tracked him down. Hence…the disappearances.”
Kent scowled, “If all this is true, what are you doing here?”
“Assassination is a messy business, my transformation skills made it easy to hide, but Pyri's top general, Cyn, suspected a fyralogin that can fully transform was behind the wave of political murder. So I left, Earth is off the grid and easy to hide in. I had a little stint in Argentina, then I made it here, saw Julie, fell in love, modified my human disguise to be handsome and have stuck around here ever since.”
Sandra, Kent and Charlotte exchanged glances, unsure what to do.
Scazard however, had a plan, “My ship broke when I landed here. I will repair it and go to Embara.”
Sandra paused, “But…couldn't you be found out?”
“It's worth it…for Julie.”

chapter 8, the start of the second half of the plot
prologue chapter 1 chapter 2 chapter 3 chapter 4 chapter 5 chapter 6 chapter 7
Cyn led the group through the city, bringing them over to the palace that lay in the center. Along the way, they noted the aliens roaming, going about their lives, and there was a large statue, presumably of the “empress”.
They were taken inside the palace, and to the throne room. Empress Pyri was pleased to see Machine, but the others left her annoyed and confused, “Who are the terrans with the cyborg?”
A nervous smile appeared on Cyn's face, “Your Imperial Majesty…they were with the cyborg when I found him, so I just decided to bring them all with me.”
She rolled her eyes, “Send them off on a tour of the palace. I must speak with the cyborg, alone.”
Cyn nodded and forcibly dragged Julie, Mark and Vivian off with him, leaving Machine and Pyri by themselves.
The empress smirked, “I finally have you here cyborg. With your aid, I will be able to fight against the khirens better and conquer planets faster. What do you say?”
Machine's eyes narrowed, “No.”
“No?! You can't say no! That's the whole reason you're here!”
“I am done fighting, I've decided to put that life behind me. I will not participate in any of your conquests or your petty rivalries. I have better things to do.”
With that, he walked away to look for the others.
Pyri clenched her fists, she couldn't believe the cyborg wasn't interested in joining her side, all her meticulous planning had gone up in flames.
After trying to calm herself down, she figured she was going to need to find some way to…persuade him.
—-----------
Machine found them in the midst of being shown a grand dining hall, the table stretched through most of the room and was surrounded by chairs. Large windows were on the left and right sides, and the atmosphere was elegant and high tech at the same time.
The tour guide gestured towards it, “This is the dining area.”
Julie's eyes widened, “It's…really big..”
“Only the best to accommodate the empress and her court.”
They noticed Machine had arrived, and Julie smiled upon seeing him, “You're here!”
“What did that empress want?” Vivian asked.
Machine grumbled, “She wanted me in her army, but I refused.”
“I apologize for her majesty. She can be…a bit much…” The tour guide replied.
“It's fine..” He remained grumpy and annoyed regardless.
“Hmm…why don't you all go explore the city? I can arrange for you to be given rooms in the palace in the meantime.”
Mark beamed, “That sounds great!”
“Splendid! I'll get started right away!”
The guide brought them to the exit, leaving them to explore the city together.
They made their way through, and came across a fast food type place. Mark eyed it and his tummy growled, “I'm starving…do you think this place has anything humans could eat?”
Machine lifted his left arm and pulled the sleeve back, revealing the robotic forearm. There was a section that opened up, and he looked at it, “This arm has a scanner that can identify the contents of things. If there's something inedible for humans, it'll let us know.”
“That's convenient!”
With that, they stepped inside, it was sleek and colorful with circular windows and screens showcasing different food items. Round tables and chairs littered the places, covered with strange multi coloured food.
The fyralogins were also terrified at the sight of Machine, shaking and eyes widened in fear.
He walked up to the counter, “I require samples of food that I can analyze to see if they are safe to eat.”
The person working at the counter nervously nodded, “Yes…of course…”
After testing some food, he determined which ones were edible for humans and was given them for free.
As they went to sit down and eat, Julie, Mark and Vivian found themselves baffled at how afraid the people were of Machine, especially Julie. She saw him as someone sweet and cute, and knew he would never hurt anyone, not anymore.
Machine noticed their expressions, “Don't be surprised. I have fought against the fyralogins in the past, it is only natural they'd fear me.”
Julie frowned as she took a bite of the food, and hoped the fyralogins would warm up to him in time.
“The food…at least isn't too bad..”
Mark tried to lighten the mood as he ate, “Isn't it incredible that we're out in space, eating alien food? It's so surreal I can hardly believe it!”
“Well for all of you it is,” Machine replied.
“It's certainly going to take some time getting used to..” Vivian grumbled as she picked out a squiggly piece of food she thought looked disgusting.
The fyralogins continued watching the group, afraid of Machine and confused by the sight of Julie, Mark and Vivian. Machine was the only human anyone in space was familiar with, and the stares made the trio think about how technologically behind Earth was compared to the rest of the Milky Way Galaxy.
After eating, they wandered around the city together, taking in the sights and observing the people living their daily lives.
One sight they came across was a train station, also having a sleek design, as well as a holographic clock. Fyralogins left and entered through the building, and out of it they could see a shiny grey train with coloured lines and see through windows. It soon zoomed across a matching grey track, off to somewhere deep in the city.
When the next train came by, they took a ride on it, observing the city through it with great curiosity. Just like in the fast food place, there were frightened stares, but others were simply minding their business. It appeared like some we're going to work, and others had children with them, including one with a crying baby.
As night fell, they made their way back inside the palace. Pyri eyed them as their guide from earlier brought them to the hall with their rooms. She was still brainstorming how she could get Machine to join her.
The guide left, and Machine looked at the others, “I'm…sorry…for dragging you all into my mess. I didn't intend for you to be thrust into this world.”
Julie smiled softly at him, “It's alright. We don't blame you for this..”
“Besides…” Mark grinned, “We get to see a cool alien planet, it's like something out of a sci fi movie. It's groovy!”
Vivian nodded, “Whatever issues pop up, we'll deal with it. Especially with that empress, we won't let her use you. There's no need to beat yourself up over this.”
Machine smiled a little, grateful they were so understanding, “I'll see you in the morning then..”
—----------
He laid in bed and watched the ceiling. Machine had wanted to put this life behind him, and he hated being forced back into it. It didn't help that his friends were being dragged into it too.
From his time fighting the fyralogins, he knew Pyri was dangerous. It wasn't just the word of the khirens sprouting propaganda, she herself fought a few times and was ruthless. There was this bloodthirsty anger to her that admittedly frightened him.
But if she wanted to drag him away from his new life and friends, he'd do everything in his power to fight for them. No matter what.
