And yep, I spent the morning in Rotterdam, evening in Amsterdam and the rest of the night hopefully at home in Utrecht. Wow, what a week this was! Working cca 13 hours a day on our @klcschool group project together with @c.o.l_interiors @clare_elizabeth_b and others, known for this week as CCCSK Collective. All under the tutoring by ever so supportive @studiogabrielleuk. Now back to a more normal life in flatlands, phew! This season we’ve managed only one Christmas market trip but oh boy, was it a magical place. #Monschau is a little village nested among the hills of the Eifel park in western Germany 🇩🇪 and a truly postcard-like place, made for the Christmas atmosphere 🎄🎅That unfortunately also means hordes of visitors and a desperate parking situation. Nevertheless, it was worth getting to know this area a little and I can’t wait to explore it more sometimes in spring/summer. After my first week as an intern at a Dutch architecture studio I’ve managed to learn: - That you can do some highly professional technical drawings in SketchUp 📐 - Probably just as much about working with SketchUp as since starting studying design. - That at some Dutch design and architecture schools it’s mandatory to work in the field during your studies (and not only for a couple of weeks but months and months of a pretty much full-time schedule), with not much extra time off for the work. This might help me stop whining about tight KLC deadlines for a while. - That standard Dutch office lunch is actually a standard Slovak weekend breakfast. - And that the Dutch sandwich game is very advanced. Even for someone who moved from the UK 🥪 need_to_work_on_my_condiment_skills - How to operate a cheese slicer properly so I can finally use the one we have at home (ALWAYS put the block of cheese on a table when slicing!) 🧀 - Also, that however boring it may sound at first, a stamppot can be actually very tasty, especially if it’s a fancy one with cashews and eaten inside a boat in a truly gezellig (a Dutch version of ‘hygge’) atmosphere - That the amount of overtime people in good creative companies are willing to spend pretty much voluntarily seems the same regardless of the country (thinking of my days back at @milkdirectors) - That Bulgarian is surprisingly similar to Slovak. I know they’re both Slavic languages, but still… And it sounds endlessly funny to Dutchies! - It seems like everyone in the Netherlands climbs/boulders. Your colleagues, acquaintances, locals, expats, even your boss. Must be something about compensating for the country topography 🤔 - They are funny and very nice for supposedly such a rude and direct nation - And they really do drink milk at lunch! Things I still need to learn: - How to work with the fricking Sketchup layers without my hair turning white - Drinking milk at lunch 🥛 Here’s to many more new learnings and experiences during the next 6 months 🇳🇱 via Instagram https://ift.tt/2Ql8Fjs

Another @klcschool project submitted, another stressful term finished (if passed, that is yet to be seen). One more term and 12 more weeks left until the end! 🎓 Can’t believe how quickly the time flies. Two years ago I couldn’t draw a straight line and here I am now, sketching all days ✏️ trying to figure out how a telescopic leg could be fixed to an extendable table 🔧 sourcing architectural mesh, translucent concrete, all sorts of more or less obscure materials, making brochures and leaflets in indesign 📚 videos in imovie 🎥 renders in photoshop 🎨 technical drawings in autocad📐... it’s been a hell of a journey and there’s still some (the hardest part even!) ahead.
