I’ve painted 5 of the @slipknot band members past and present and still have another 5 to go. Y’all will just have to wait to see them all completed and as a set. Yesterday evening I set out to do a quick portrait and I selected to do one of @jackblack, today I spent about an hour or so adding the finer detail. I wasn’t going to finish this painting. I started it last year and then didn’t know what to do with it. But then I realised the main (largest) character reminded me of a drawing I did in 2011. So I went through some old sketches (from 2011) and selected a couple to incorporate into this painting. Swipe right to see the old drawings along with the new versions. This is my End of Year painting for 2018. I’ve been doing this since 2011 where I started out with a simple goal to paint a similar themed piece at the end of each year to see how I’ve progressed. I now use this painting to reflect on the year that has been. To begin with I chose an isolated location because this year has been the least social I have ever been in my life. I could count on one hand how many times I have left my apartment this year and it has felt like I have been living in total isolation. It’s a good thing I like spending time alone and I get shit done because I know a lot of people that wouldn’t be able to handle it. I began feeding birds midyear. They are vicious little things that legit cripple each other in fights, but they’re also cute and I can’t help but to like them. I chose a cheap foldout chair to sit on because times are tough - I haven’t sold a single item/painting this year and I had to cancel tutoring because a client stole from my home. So I am left with no income until the new year when hopefully a school picks me up for work. The paint-covered jumpsuit demonstrates my ability to get paint on every single piece of clothing I own. No matter how nice or new it is it’ll eventually end up with paint on it. The slightly exaggerated shoes and clown makeup are because I am a clown in many ways, simple as that. Probably a tragic clown, but whatever. The clown makeup has been roughly painted on by the brushes held in my right hand. The brushes in one hand and the birds in the other are to represent the fact that I haven’t had much joy this year besides these two elements in my life. Now to the face, yes, it is a self portrait, but I should explain the blanked-out face. It’s to show that I am a nobody in the art realm, in many ways I’m just a nobody, I can’t say I have had any particular impact on anyones life or made things better for anyone.
