tumblr tuesday: visions of space
52 years after two men called Neil and Edwin took a walk on the moon, MacKenzie Scott’s ex husband is not standing or sitting or swimming anywhere on this earth, but is instead hovering somewhere Above. For everyone else with your feet on the ground, here are some space-themed blogs to help you disappear into dreams of starry silence.
@the-wolf-and-moon is a collection of art the universe makes behind the scenes while we’re all going about our dwindling days and tiny tasks. Here you can see the Cat’s Paw Nebula, otherwise known as NGC 6334. Birthplace of gigantic stars and cubic tons of trouble, probably, this finally proves who really runs all universes, known and unknown.

@startrekdesign grew from a personal quarantine project by a long-time Trekkie and new-time collector of design objects featured in the show. Think of it as home interiors, if ‘home’ were a big ol’ spacecraft fictitiously hurtling through time and space.

@mystarypi-astronomy takes pictures of space! With a telescope! From the earth! And tells us what we’re looking at so that what at first glance looks like a black squiggle in golden glitter becomes the Snake Nebula, a whole world of knowable and unknowable worlds! Tttthhhpectacular!

And lastly, @thevisualdon is back with a spacey moment for our digital age, a neon-dreamed, glitter-pixelled nostalgia for obsolescent futures. Come on in. The sky’s the sea, and the water’s warm.

Hello There

Before starting my blog, I wanted to introduce myself! 😋😇
I'm Nendini Lutchmun. And I'm a first-year student at Mauritius Institude of Education.
I'm pursuing an undergraduate degree in B.Ed French.
So, I'm sure that you must have already guessed that my dream is to become a French teacher!
I'm blogging about my learning experience at MIE, and I'm sure that you would like it!! Moreover, I believe that knowledge should always be shared.
So.... I will first talk about my first class at MIE! 😁😁😁
Can you guess?
Was it literature? 😑😑
NO!!
Linguistic?🙄😶🤔
No!!😑😑😑
My first class was BRINGING TECHNOLOGICAL DEVICES IN THE CLASSROOM!🤩🤩
I learnt many things like Kahoot, sharing google Docs and I have also created my own class where my peers are my students. AND I learnt a lot from my peers. This has cultivated a very positive peer culture in my classroom.
Moreover, my lecturer, each week was sending us materials and every week we got to learn new things. 😊😊😊
Now, I have got the experience using Google Classroom.
I Have found a way for my students to love my class even in the pandemic.
BUT the question that you might have in your mind is: why did I choose to become a French teacher?
YOU KNOW PASSION?
In my opinion, if you have a passion for something or a dream. You should always follow it. It can be the language of the heart.
And in pursuing a degree in the field of French, I feel satisfaction that I am following my dream to become a teacher.
Moreover, I have been a bookworm since my childhood. And I wish to extend my knowledge to the future generation and to inculcate a love towards French language in their heart.
My message to you people is: Follow your dreams. Success will follow you.

Amazing 🤩😍 I'm a fan of animation
My first animation! YouTube lo-fi channels fueled this creation. I had a lot of fun and frustration while using Adobe Animate. Definitely going to continue with this. The door open/close was such a pain!

Fun with videos
Hello Everyone! Hope that you are in pink of your health.
We are indubitably in an era of technology. Look at you now! You are also reading my blog all thanks to technology. :P
So why not make the class interesting by using technology? And also not forgetting that this technology is technology savvy. So, it would be wrong for them to gain knowledge only from traditional learning. Your students will thank you and will always remember you for it!
However, some say just watching videos cannot make a student grasp the content. They need human contact which videos cannot give.
I created a Google Sheet on which I posted important videos for my students. They have been able to understand important topics at their own pace and I have also informed them how the video would be useful to them. The fact that my class consists of more visual learners, this will help them to a great extent. And there is music and sound for the auditory learners. In this way, they will feel more connected to the topic.
Here is a link to my Google Sheet on which I have posted important videos.

Google Sheets
Today, I have learned how to use Google Sheets all thanks to my lecturer!
SO WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Google sheets is a way to record and analyse data. Moreover, it has visually attractive charts and graphs!
WHY I LOVE IT SO MUCH?
Personally, it saves time. It helps me to keep all my data in order.
Guess what? Many people can work on the same google sheets at the same time. It helps my students to do group work and hereby, enforces a better relationship between them. Especially, in this lockdown, where it is hard or impossible to do group work.
The only disadvantage with it is that it requires internet access. Without it, you cannot even open it! :( :(
Earlier, I heard about it but did not know how to use it I thought it was useful only for the Physics or Accounting Class. But my lecturer proved me wrong!
I did a Google Sheet for my French class. My students love it because it can contain lots of details without making it bulky to read. I even assigned them a group work, and they will be noted on their Google Sheet. I'm so eager to see their work! :)
Below is the link for you to access my Google Sheet. I hope you would like it and try it. :P
Have a great evening!

Class Dojo
Everyone uses Teams, Google Classroom or Zoom. So why not use something unique?
Thanks to my lecturer, I got to know about Class Dojo. ClassDojo connects teachers with students and parents to build amazing classroom communities!
In it, you can create an amazing class by classifying each student by lovely avatar.
You can even give them a voice with digital portfolios!!!AND PARENTS can easily join your class using any device.
And the biggest advantage is that it is free!!!
So why think twice when you can sign up at once? :P
However, the disadvantage with it is that it reduces human interaction. ☹
But according to me, ClassDojo can be the synonym of online learning. Students will enjoy the avatars, and it is less boring than the other classes which have only notes and assignments. I'm sure that you would like it too! Sur ce, prenez soin de vous et on se voit bientôt!

Classroom Management System

Classroom management software helps teachers to keep track of the students' activities.
It also helps to eliminate distractions.
Moreover, it allows students to work independently on their computers. In this way, classroom management software helps to build autonomous lifelong learners.
Here are some examples of Classroom Management Software:
(1) ClassDojo
(2)LanSchool
(3)NearPod
(4) GoGuardian Teacher
However, the only disadvantage of Classroom Management Software is that not every student is at ease with technology. Hence, they might get difficulties in learning and not all of them have the latest technology to benefit from these applications. 😟🙁
However, I plan to use it in the future as the pandemic is leaving us with no other choice.

OPEN EDUCATIONAL Resources(OER)
I remember the first thing I learnt during my ICT class is the open educational resources. OER are digital contents used for learning and teaching purposes.OER contains materials such as textbooks, lessons, lectures, quiz and assessments.

But do you know why I like OER so much?
Firstly, it is easily accessible! :)
Moreover, it is updated, and it increases students' engagement towards the class. I, myself, since the moment I got to know about it, I have been using it almost every day for my assignments, homework, and researches. :p
Plus, it encourages equity in my class. It is advantageous to students who do not have enough means to buy books. They can get plenty of notes online through OER. And when students do not get stressed out of buying expensive books, they feel more motivated to learn and are able to invest their efforts and time in their course. OER provides quality materials that anyone can access for FREE!
Unfortunately, it also has its cons :(
Since OER is easily accessible and any person can upload materials, it is not totally reliable.
Moreover, not all people are at ease with technology, and they may gain difficulty in finding relevant notes. Some OER requires software that may be costly.
Depending too much on technology can affect the relationship between a student and a teacher. Some students won't value their teacher as they have everything online.
An example of OER is SLIDESHARE.
You can click on this link to get an overview of Slideshare.
The best thing about OER is that it encourages an inclusive education, and it helps students to learn better.
And for a teacher, the biggest joy is to find their students learning enthusiastically.
I'm sure that you or your students won't regret using it. Trust me,t is very helpful and visually attractive.
Have a good night! :) :) :)
Keep safe:D

Social Bookmarking Tools
On 08/03/2021, I came to an interesting topic known as social bookmarking tools. It allows Internet users to identify, label, store, organize, search, and manage bookmarks of Web pages for later access.
But what caught my eye is Diigo!!
So what is it about?
Diigo is a social bookmarking website that allows signed-up users to bookmark and tag Web pages.
Personally, it helps me a lot for examples:
It saves my time. It helps me to save and organize important websites, online articles or any media found online.
It has an outliner feature that helps me to share bookmarked websites with my students!
However, it has some disadvantages. ☹☹☹☹
After creating 5 outliners for my Google Classroom, I had to upgrade, and it is no more free.
Let me shed light of some features of DIIGO.🤗
(1) We have sticky notes.
(2) we can bookmark sites.
(3) We can also highlight important things.
Below is a link for you to watch on YouTube to better understand Diigo and it teaches us how to sign up for Diigo.
youtube
Not forgetting that my dream is to become a french teacher and therefore i have created a Diigo bookmark. You can press the link below to have an overview on what it is. I'm sure you or your students would love it!
Take care and keep safe! A bientôt!

Ever heard about QUIZIZZ?
Just like Kahoot, Google Forms, and Hot potatoes, Quizizz is an example of online assessment tools.
But what's its speciality? ( ͡^ ͜ʖ ͡^)
-It is free!!
-Quizizz is engaging and fun.
Students love to play and this platform is a great tool to connect them to their studies and at the same time, making them learn about new things.
-Students are motivated
However, it does have some drawbacks. ( ͡^ ︹ ͡^)
-Not every student has a smartphone, laptop, or computer and internet access.
-Not every student puts their real name while playing. Hence, it becomes difficult for the teacher to mark them.
Let me shed light on some of its features for you to better understand. 😃
-The questions are student-paced. That is, they can answer the questions at their own pace.
-Students can challenge their friends.
- The game consists of power ups.
-It has memes. And teachers can add memes too..
- Students and teachers can choose the area of field they want to play quiz.
How I plan to use it in my class?😊
I find a great way to capture the attention of my students.
In an era of memes, students will feel connected to the topic by the game, and they will be able to enjoy the class.
I have created many quizzes for my students for some topics. In this way, I can identify their weaknesses and help them.
You can click here to play my Quizizz. Best of luck!! 😁

Google Forms
Google Form is an example of online assessment tools.
But why do I like it?
It is free!😄
And it helps people to take surveys! 😇
And it is a great way for teachers to assess the performance of the students! 😌
HOWEVER, THERE ARE SOME DRAWBACKS! 😶😑😐
Teachers do not receive notifications for submission :(
It has very limited designs.
Let me tell you about its features!
(1) You can: add questions.
(2) Import Questions
(3)Add Title and Description
(4) Add image
(5) Add section
Moreover, you can choose which types of questions you want to ask.
There are multiple Choice, Checkboxes and dropdown questions.
You can check below a YouTube video on how to create a Google Form. I'm sure that you would like it. I even created many google forms for my students to assess them on the book ''Le Désert de l'amour''. I have been able to identify where exactly they are lagging behind and on which topics I have to provide more explanations.

I wish you a very good day! 😃😋🤗

PLAY WITH KAHOOT!
A world without games is like a bland dish. And nothing excites children more than games! So why not integrate games in the educational system?🙌
Today, I learnt about Kahoot! 😎
Kahoot! is a game-based learning platform, used as educational technology in schools and other educational institutions.
Teachers can use it to make the class entertaining. (☆▽☆)
It helps students to have fun with the subjects that they are studying.
And according to Nolan Bushnell, <<Video games fosters the mindset that allows creativity to grow.>>
However, Kahoot has some drawbacks. 😒
Students can enter their nickname instead of their real name. It becomes difficult for teachers to monitor the progress of students and to identify their weaknesses and strengths.
Everyone can view the answers beforehand as the answers are public. So it's unfair to many students.
Some features of Kahoot are:
For the free version, you can create multiple choice question quiz and True or False quiz.
You can even add photos to the question asked.
You can put a time limit depending on your preference.
Teachers can allow multiple answers to one question.
I created a Kahoot game for Google Classroom, and I'm glad my students like it. I wished I had learned about Kahoot earlier so that I could make my revision easier, but I'm glad to make my students love my classes!!
I can use it to create quiz especially to test their knowledge about grammar, the characters of the books, and vocabulary words.
Below is a link for the book my students are studying on that is <<Le Désert de l'amour>>. Hope you like it!

Google Classroom
Today with the pandemic and the lockdown season, teaching face to face is impossible. So Google Classroom seems to be the only option if you want to continue your further studies.
Google Classroom is a platform where teachers and students can share files and knowledge.
Personally, I love Google Classroom? Do you know why?
First and foremost, it is free!
Plus, there is no need for paper, thus discouraging deforestation.
Moreover, what can be the happiest moment for a student when he or she can stay home and learn at his or her ease? There is no need for travelling.
Moreover, teachers can easily share YouTube videos, links, PDF resources.
However, it has also some drawbacks.
It has some editing problems. You cannot edit everything. For example, if you misplaced your resources into ''topics'' instead of ''materials'', you cannot change it.
Some students find it too assignment oriented.
Some features of the Google Classroom I use for my students are as follows:
-Assignment- I can mark my students by giving them assignments
-Quiz Assignment- I can give them questions to know their weaknesses.
-Question- I can give them questions for brainstorming
-Material- I can put resources.
-Reuse post
-Topic
We can put resources present in our Google Drive, URL links for external resources, files such as PDF and YouTube Videos.
We can also put Docs, slides for presentations and sheets for recording and analysing data(which is very useful for science classes) We can put drawings as well to keep students engaged and forms to take surveys.
For me, I find it very easy to use. My lecturer posts notes on Google Classroom and I find no difficulty in finding it. I get mails, so I'm very assured that I will get every resource, materials and notes that he posts. I can even classify my works for my students if I want them to be in the''material'', ''question'' or ''topic'' section.

Using HotPotato

My other adventure in class is the HOT POTATOES!
Hot Potatoes includes six applications that can create exercises for the World Wide Web.
The applications are
1)JClose

2)JCross
(3) JMatch

(4) JMix
(5) JQuiz
Not forgetting the 6th application, The Masher. As its name suggests, it compiles all the Hot Potatoes exercises into one unit.

ADVANTAGES OF HOT POTATOES
It facilitates the workload of teachers. It helps them organize many fun activities which can enhance children's interest and engagement towards the class.
Teachers can add video and sound. There is also the option to put a timer and to add links.
DISADVANTAGES OF HOT POTATOES
It requires a stable internet connection. And not every school is well-equipped with technology.
And according to Jeff Standford Moodle, ''It is easier for students to cheat with hot potatoes by clicking on hint to see each letter of a word.''
I find it very useful for linguistic teachers and the students also will enjoy

So, why I chose Tumblr?🤩
Sure, it's a blogging site but for me, it's a platform to express myself.
I've fallen in love with Tumblr. 😍
One word that can describe Tumblr is aesthetic.
It is pleasing to the eyes.
I can write in different colours!!!
I can also write in different handwriting!!!
It's like giving the users the freedom to express themselves in the way they feel at ease…
Let's look at some of its features.
Firstly, you can choose the palette in which you can customize the way you want your Tumblr to look.
Plus, you can add GIFs, photos, music, quote, videos, links, or attachments, and you can even chat! 🤠
Moreover, you can even put source, like and share posts.
You can even connect your Tumblr to Facebook and Twitter to get more views and followers.
The only disadvantage is that it is addictive. And people can distract from their priorities.😟
However, for me, it remains a good experience. I have learnt a lot from Tumblr, and it remains an ideal place for me to blog my learning. 😋
I WISH YOU A HAPPY TUMBLING!!!🤗🤗
