like, tl;dr is that the data is really quite weird, but from what we know, almost all spiking is done via adding extra alcohol to someone's drink or (somehow) weed? and stuff like "roofie-ing" or GHB, which those straws etc test for, is exceedingly rare, but true crime-style news stories made people think it's common. also, it's fairly likely that most spiking doesn't end with assault, probably because a) if you're going to assault someone, you just do it and b) most spiking is opportunist, not planned, and often the desired result is just to spike someone for the sake of spiking them.
oh boy am I gonna have to write a lil thing for tumblr people about what spiking actually looks like and the data on why and how it really happens (ie, not how people think it does)
