Of Montreal covers "Devil Went Down to Georgia" live in Atlanta. The cover actually starts around 3:30.
I feel like I'm watching a Flaming Lips pre-cursor when I watch live Of Montreal videos.

Here's the second of those two new Arcade Fire tracks that debuted yesterday on Zane Lowe. "Culture War" follows in the jangle footsteps of The Suburbs, but still has that Funeral presence.

New Arcade Fire tracks debuted on BBC DJ Zane Lowe's program today. "Speaking in Tongues" (heard here) and "Culture War" (the upcoming post) both feature melodies and hooks reminiscent of Funeral. Not a bad look into the past, to say the least.

Of Montreal Cover The White Stripes' "Fell In Love With A Girl".
When you think of Of Montreal, you immediately think of unicorns, psychedelic colors, and (let's be honest) maybe the Outback commercial. The Onion's AV Club, God bless their souls, rounded up a new batch of songs for artists to cover, and Of Montreal chose the most lo-fi, out of their typical mindset song that they could find. Eccentrics? Yes. Garage rockers at heart? Hell yes.

Heres some music that hails from the San Francisco region of the United States. They've got a sound that you don't hear everyday, and it is a welcome relief. It's reminiscent of music our parents (depending on who you are) may have enjoyed around the heyday of the Haight Ashbury district. Enjoy this and let it get you through the following summer nights my fellow Trend Roboters.

After having my mind completely liquified, strained through fishnet, chilled to a gelatin-like state and ultimately reinserted into my cranium by their live show in Denver last Friday, Portugal. The Man has announced a pre-order for their upcoming LP, In The Mountain In The Cloud.
Of course there are deluxe packages boasting packs of field journals, signed lithographs and the like, but ultimately, I'm just excited for more music from this band that I was so recently introduced to. Thanks, Huz & Lobos!

Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) just released the first single from his upcoming self-titled sophomore effort. "Calgary" begins in familiar territory but takes an interesting twist halfway through that turns the track into an intriguing and addicting single.
Bon Iver will be out June 21 in the U.S. via Jagjaguwar and a day earlier everywhere else via 4AD.

Chalk & Numbers' first video - "Let's Go Away"
Chalk & Numbers spent time filming in Williamsburg, Coney Island, and Jersey to put together their first visual offering for "Let's Go Away". The band even had a chance to visit suburbia and take a trip to a mall in NJ - something that is a rarity in Brooklyn.
Chalk & Numbers will be playing this Saturday, May 21st, at the 5th Annual NYC Popfest. Hit up Santos Party House around 8:00 p.m.

Interview with Left Lane Cruiser's Brenn Beck

From Fort Wayne, IN, the roughneck blues duo of guitarist Fredrick "Joe" Evans IV and drummer Brenn Beck have been utterly destroying bars across the Midwest. Gaining underground notoriety with 2008's Bring Yo Ass To The Table, Left Lane Cruiser's latest, Junkyard Speed Ball has become one of TrendRobot's favorite albums of the year. Rough, dirty, raw and soaked with moonshine, Junk Yard Speed Ball is an album that puts dirtier soul into the current blues movement.
I had a chance to do a little Q & A with drummer Brenn Beck and got the secret formula for a Junkyard Speed Ball.
TR: What exactly IS a Junkyard Speed Ball?
Brenn: I'm sure it means a number of things to different folks, but for us its the ever enticing combo of Mountain Dew and Weed. Gotten us through a lot of studio sessions.
TR: Was the recording process for Junkyard Speed Ball any different than past albums?
Brenn: We went back to Jim Diamond at Ghetto Recorders again for this one, so it was similar to our last experience. We incorporated a lot more diversity into this album though, so yeah it changed the process some. We layed down a lot more overdubs this time around. we really shot to make a real "studio' release this time. Our process is always about the same though. get fucked up and play it like we would live.
TR: You’ve stated that your main influences are Mississippi Hill Country Blues players, but who are some influences that would surprise people?
Brenn: Well i dont know if its much of a surprise, but Joe is a huge classic rock fan. ZZ Top and ACDC are his 2 favorites. i am a big fan of Stoner Rock. Kyuss, Clutch, Deville, they all get a lot of play in the van. we listen to a whole lot of different shit though. Paul Simon, Bob Log III, Canned Heat and a whole lot of friends bands....Chili Cold Blood, Scott Biram, Posessed By paul James.
TR: Is there a central theme behind Junkyard Speed Ball? Any stories worth sharing?
Brenn: Alot of it is just stuff from the road. We toured a shit ton the last few years. spending that much time on the road really rattles your brain and gives you a love/hate relationship with the music biz. Alot of that frustation and joy came out on this record. We also both just had kids, and were writing songs while we were dealing with getting ready for that, so there was certainly a heightened anxiety surrounding this record.
TR: Where in the world would you like to play that you haven’t already?
Brenn: I think Australia and Japan are both places that we really want to go. Its a big world out there, and we really want to see as much of it as possible.
TR: What’s a blues record that everyone should own?
Brenn: R.L. Burnsides "Too Bad Jim" and "Ass Pocket of Whiskey" are both must haves. Canned Heats "Boogie with" is crucial. Any Mississippi Fred McDowell or Muddy Waters is gonna be good too.
TR: What albums have you been listening to lately?
Brenn: A lot of kyuss "welcome to sky valley", Black Diamond Heavies "Alive as Fuck", Chili Cold Blood 'lips", Dr. John "Voodoo Hex", Grateful Dead "Working Mans Dead', Clutch "Elephant Riders"
TR: You’re in the middle of a tour that ends on May 6 at a BBQ joint. Sounds amazing. How’s the tour going?
Brenn: Its been great. The shows have been a lot more crowded, and the response has been huge. weve met alot of good people on the road this time.
TR: What’s your drink of choice while on tour?
Brenn: Moonshine if ya got it. Whiskey is always good too. Beam or Jamesons preferably.
TR: Any last words?
Brenn: Thanks for doin this interview, and thanks to anybody readin it. If ya havent picked up the new album yet, go get yourself a copy, and pick up an R.L. album while you're at it.

Heres a great song and a great band for all of you Trendroboters! Pay attention to Funeral Party, four young lads who hail from Whittier, California. If you don't love a band that named themselves after a Cure song then I really don't know what to do for you. Listen and enjoy and keep following the Robot, the media will consume us all.
