The Seeds are deep-forest dwelling dragons. They are omnivorous dragons of medium height and weight, comparable to deer or elk. Their scales and feathered wings are usually dull greens and browns, to provide camouflage in the woods. They are dryads and forestkeepers, taking care of the trees and communicating with the wood spirits.

The most unusual feature of the Seeds is their horns, growing all over their head, neck and body, strongly resembling tree roots. Females of the species have a single, horn-like growth protruding from between their wings. When a female Seed dragon dies after a long and fulfilling life, she will be buried in fetal position, with her backside up and the horn only barely buried. In the far past, all the growths took root and became trees, and the most ancient forests are actually Seed graveyards. For unknown reasons, in the current times, a Seed taking root after her death is very rare occurrence and each such case is greatly revered.

Once in a while, in every one or two generations, a brilliant emerald green Seedling hatches, always female. She will be immediately isolated from the ordinary clan members and given to the care of the most eldest of the Dryads, to be taught almost everything there is to know about the way of the Seeds and the Forests. Her horns will be immersed in blood of her clan members until they are permanently red, to signify her role in the Clan and show her as the representative of her people to the spirits. It is believed that once she dies and spawns her tree, which the emerald dragons always do, a part of each dragons soul will be eternally preserved in it, therefore granting spiritual immortality.

When she becomes adolescent, before being presented to the clan, her scales will be carefully lacquered and decorated with river stones. Her underbelly and feathers will be dyed pitch black to better bring forward the emerald sheen. She will be decked in amber jewellery and white silk wraps. Her role will be of a High Priestess, advising and helping the Dryads in all spiritual matters until her death.

She will rule as the High Priestess to the most ancient of the Dryads until the coming of next spring, when, upon the first new moon, she will be ritually sacrificed and buried to bring forth the Tree from her body. That, of course, was the part that the elders left out of her training. Oops. — Pictured is the newest High Priestess on the night of the spring’s first new moon. Having just learned of her fate a few hours ago, she somehow, due to blind luck and happenstance managed to escape her Clan and is now fleeing them in the forest, trying to reach the Edge behind which the clans of the Plains live. Will she reach it? Will the Plains clans help her? She does not know, but she has no wish to die on the ritual grounds either.
