Feminists do not want you to lose custody of your children. The assumption that women are naturally better caregivers is part of patriarchy. Feminists do not like commercials in which bumbling dads mess up the laundry and competent wives have to bustle in and fix it. The assumption that women are naturally better housekeepers is part of patriarchy. Feminists do not want you to have to make alimony payments. Alimony is set up to combat the fact that women have been historically expected to prioritize domestic duties over professional goals, thus minimizing their earning potential if their “traditional” marriages end. The assumption that wives should make babies instead of money is part of patriarchy. Feminists do not want anyone to get raped in prison. Permissiveness and jokes about prison rape are part of rape culture, which is part of patriarchy. Feminists do not want anyone to be falsely accused of rape. False rape accusations discredit rape victims, which reinforces rape culture, which is part of patriarchy. Feminists do not want you to be lonely and we do not hate “nice guys.” The idea that certain people are inherently more valuable than other people because of superficial physical attributes is part of patriarchy. Feminists do not want you to have to pay for dinner. We want the opportunity to achieve financial success on par with men in any field we choose (and are qualified for), and the fact that we currently don’t is part of patriarchy. The idea that men should coddle and provide for women, and/or purchase their affections in romantic contexts, is condescending and damaging and part of patriarchy. Feminists do not want you to be maimed or killed in industrial accidents, or toil in coal mines while we do cushy secretarial work and various yarn-themed activities. The fact that women have long been shut out of dangerous industrial jobs (by men, by the way) is part of patriarchy. Feminists do not want you to commit suicide. Any pressures and expectations that lower the quality of life of either gender are part of patriarchy. The fact that depression is characterized as an effeminate weakness, making men less likely to seek treatment, is part of patriarchy. Feminists do not want you to be viewed with suspicion when you take your child to the park (men frequently insist that this is a serious issue, so I will take them at their word). The assumption that men are insatiable sexual animals, combined with the idea that it’s unnatural for men to care for children, is part of patriarchy. Feminists do not want you to be drafted and then die in a war while we stay home and iron stuff. The idea that women are too weak to fight or too delicate to function in a military setting is part of patriarchy. Feminists do not want women to escape prosecution on legitimate domestic violence charges, nor do we want men to be ridiculed for being raped or abused. The idea that women are naturally gentle and compliant and that victimhood is inherently feminine is part of patriarchy. Feminists hate patriarchy. We do not hate you.

Our bodies are battle grounds for people who will never have to live in them
As long as you live in a body that is not cis, abled, white, & male? Someone’s going to spend a lot of time, energy, & money digging into why you’re wrong for existing. They’ll fight each other over what’s wrong with you & fight you over any efforts you make to love yourself. We’re all supposed to vanish (see 95% of future fiction), and leave them to a world where they can compete to be their own heroes, while we stay mythical villains to be destroyed on sight. Staying alive, staying visible, that’s all it takes to be radical in a world that would rather erase you than acknowledge your humanity.

You have to love that even in discussions of American shows made by American companies, the moment race is brought up by Americans of color, suddenly we don’t have the faintest clue what we’re talking about even when actual recorded history & current events show that the locales where the shows are set aren’t all white & never have been. If you really think that castles = no one black? You need to go pick up a damned history book. Start with the Moors and work your way forward & back through history. Protip: When you get to the parts about math, science, medicine, & paper? That all came from POC. NYC in 2012? Full of people who are not white. Can a racist manage to avoid having POC in their circle of friends? Probably, but it’ll take a special effort and they’ll need to only make friends with other bigots.  Really, if you’re relying on white American to tell you about the reality of POC in this country? You’re already too fucked up for words.

Oh look, YOU are comparing women to children as well. Thanks for that.
PS: discrimination and rights are not the same thing. “Men’s rights” is a redundant statement. Does discrimination against men exist? Yes. Is it a result of the patriarchy and enforced gender roles? ALSO YES.
If you’ve read…

White people who believe in color blind racial ideology are actively placating the status quo, encouraging racism, and reinforcing white supremacy.

Yesterday in my Criminology class I brought up Treyvon Martin. My prof also happens to be Daytona's chief of police so I figured he might be able shed some light on wtf was going on for me.
And he says he hasn’t heard about it…
Tumblr media
But I actually like the guy so I decide to give him the benefit of a doubt and tell him and the other clueless folk in class what happened. I purposely left out the race of both parties when I did so and this was his response:
Prof: Obviously this guy is just a racist douche bag who doesnt have what it takes to be an actual cop so he goes around bullying people because he thinks he’s some kinda fucking vigilante. Probably thought he was doing his neighborhood a favor by harassing this kid for having the nerve to be black and cross the street.
Random Chick: How do you know the boy was african american?
Prof: Let’s be real here. Shit like this doesn’t happen to white kids. For those of you that didn’t realize that I’m sorry to burst your bubble but that’s a fact.
Chief Mike Chitwood ladies and gentlemen!
Tumblr media
When I asked him why said douchebag hadn’t been arrested he said he had no idea but he was going to read up about it and told me to bring it up again in class next week. should be an interesting class…

I'm noticing an ongoing trend of complete lack of support for trans women everywhere...
Like, even from people that are fucking awesome about everything else.
It never seems to cross peoples minds to be inclusive towards trans women.
It never seems to cross peoples minds to acknowledge trans women.
It never seems to cross peoples minds that without inclusive and acknowledging statements, trans women need to assume that we aren’t wanted.
We NEED to do this because we are tired as fuck of assuming that we are being included.
We are tired of coming into women’s groups and being victimized and abused.
We are tired of going to rape crisis centers and being turned away because our existence is triggering.
We are tired of wanting a safe space and then being told WE are the rapists, the deceivers, the monsters, and the child molesters.
We are tired of being the punchline and the joke. The fetish object and “best of both worlds” so long as we’re gone by morning.
Never mind the fact that many of us are victims of rape.
That many of us have dealt with child abuse.
That many of us have been physically assaulted.
That all of us live and deal with the constant deceptive nature of cis people.
We NEED to assume we aren’t wanted. Because the whole wide world is telling us we’re trash and we can’t be arsed to assume that you actually meant to include us when you said fucking nothing.
We don’t have the fucking luxury to assume that we are being included.
So yeah…
Make it damn clear that you want us around.
Make it clear that you won’t put up with transmisogyny.
Make it clear that you view us as women. That you view us as fucking people.
I’d like to see some fucking solidarity, but I wonder if this will even be reblogged?
And if it is reblogged I wonder how many people that aren’t trans women will do so?
I’m honestly not betting much, so I guess we’ll see.

But only so long as a Republican is president. As soon as a Democrat ends up in the Oval Office wielding all the new powers the previous Republican administration granted that office, they'll flip out and start talking about America's slide into Sovietism.
So these Republicans want to abolish judges, scale back congress, kill any oversight organization...
they basically want the American Presidency to be an unquestioned dictatorship.

While I'm never in favor of job losses, military jobs aren't by any means the best use of human productivity. I wouldn't be mourning this one bit if I thought that all those people would be getting new jobs in the near future, but sadly I'm afraid most of them won't.
If we cut a couple hundred billion in defense and reinvested that same amount into things like infrastructure and transportation, I'd be delighted. Sadly that will not happen.
Tumblr media
The Army is cutting 8,700 civilian jobs on 70 bases across the country, and even larger budget cuts loom.
The Army hopes to achieve most of the reductions through attrition, early retirement and voluntary buyouts before a deadline set in September 2012, Lt. Col. Laurel Devine, Pentagon public affairs officer, told The Daily yesterday…
The cuts affect blue- and white-collar positions in 37 states, with the majority occurring in Army commands that handle installation management, training and doctrine. Four states — Virginia, Alabama, Georgia and Texas — are losing more than 600 jobs each, according to documents obtained by The Daily.

I laughed my ass off when they referred to the tree as a "symbol of Christianity." That is a pagan Germanic nature-worshiping symbol, sirs and madams.
Controversy with my college's Gay-Straight Alliance
tl;dr: Vote in the poll at the bottom of this!
I’m the treasurer in my college’s Gay-Straight Alliance. To raise awareness for AIDS and World AIDS Day, our club put up a tree in our student activity center with free condoms decorating its branches. Beside the tree, we placed a sign that stated the condoms were free for anyone as well as an informational sheet about AIDS and prevention.
Tumblr media
Two days ago, our club president received an email from our school’s Young Republicans Club president (he’s also a member of the Christian and Catholic groups at our school). He requested to meet with us because he wanted us to remove the tree because he felt that it “degrades the symbol of Christianity.”
We agreed to meet with him and did, with him stating his points and us stating ours. We refused to take down the tree. We meant to neither promote or insult ANY religion and are simply promoting safe sex and AIDS awareness on campus. We have permission from school officials to display this tree and he met with school officials over this “controversy” and they agreed with us.
At the end of our meeting, he mentioned that he was involving an attorney and the local Pittsburgh diocese. None of us could believe he was taking it that far, especially because the tree will be taken down when we leave for break in less than a week.
Today, we logged onto Facebook to see that he had taken it a step further. The student has placed an alternative sheet beside the tree advocating abstinence; a move that makes no sense as we are not advertising sex, merely safety.
An article on the website “The Blaze” entitled “Gay Club’s Condom-Decorated ‘Christmas’ Tree Causes Outrage at Penn. College” is up and shares his side of the story with a poll at the bottom.
Please read the article, vote, and spread the word.
Protect free speech! Do not let conservative Christians ruin something only meant to promote safety and awareness simply because they do not agree!
