It's really weird when people try to push the idea that Zuko doesn't resemble Ozai at all and inherited nothing from him.

Not only are their visibly near identical as far as facial features go, but there is an entire scene where Ozai's childhood pictures are mistaken for Zuko's because the two of them have an extremely strong family resemblance.

The idea that he inherited Ursa's perfect goodness and none of Ozai's cruel evilness because all that's genetic and it split cleanly down the middle feels eugenicsy to me. Especially because Azula physically resembles Ursa, Ursa wasn't perfect herself (she laughed when Iroh bragged about raiding and subjugating and burning to the ground random villages in other nations), and Zuko expressed some deeply cruel nationalistic beliefs towards others that he learned and stood by and doubled down on (like his Air Nomad "preschool" insult towards the genocide survivor he had been trying to assassinate for glory).

Trying to say the goodness and evil is all genetic just ignores too much of the story.

It also just completely invalidates the potential for growth and change or the way your environment shapes you, which are huge parts of the story.

alright imagine firelord Zuko suddenly finds out 'oh shit nobody else is here now, mother is gone uncle is far away and azula is in asylum and if I want to make father put his whole attention on me and gain his affection I can actually do that easily just like I always wanted as a boy' and then he suddenly transferred ozai into a room in the palace(still confined tho) and starts to bring him random gifts , ozai would be sooo surprised and anxious, he'll be suspicious about Zuko's true intention all the time, shifting in his chair time to time and wondering if Zuko's going to kill him next day... and Zuko will just comb ozai's hair and trim his goatee while humming softly, and ozai just sits there rigidly gulping...😫😫so cute... looks wholesome but there's a lot more shimmering beneath the surface
