I’ve been thinking a lot about Champagne Problems’ lyrics...

I agree with those who associate this song with Little Women 2019.

Taylor is singing from the POV of the girl who was so loved by this wonderful man. The issue is that she was never able to love him the same way. She constantly broke his heart and left him alone when he needed her. At the very least, she loved him enough to reject him and allow him to be find happiness and true love with someone else. And he does, he finds the right girl who never breaks his heart, who’s there when he needs her and who loves him with all her heart.

Let’s play with Greta’s version of Laurie being a catch from the very beginning. Laurie is this perfect boy who did nothing but love Jo unconditionally. In any case, Jo would be the girl who can’t love him. And she hurt Laurie, even if she didn’t mean to. Amy is the girl who truly loves him and makes him happy.

And it also reminds me to 500 days of Summer. In other movies we only see the romantic story where a couple often complains about the people they had dated and how right it feels to be with each other. That is one of my favorite movies ever because for once we see the story of the guy who wasn’t the right one, of the relationship that came before the real one. Which is kind of the story of Laurie and Jo. Like Summer, Jo never believed in marriage until she met Bhaer and so the potential of building a true partnership.

My point is both, the song and the movie, are supposed to make us understand the importance of finding the right person at the right time. And how when the right person appears, there’s no drama, it’s not complicated. The proposals go smoothly.

First loves are not true loves, not always. Yes, they’re special because it’s the first time you feel something like that, but it can also be the first time you feel the excruciating pain of being heartbroken. Jo and Laurie had to go through that to understand what love and marriage are really about. Ad everything fell on its place.

the bridge of champagne problems is exactly when you finally talk about something you’ve been holding in for too long and it all just spills out of you and all of a sudden you’re crying because you realize how much pain you’re in and it hurts so much more when you say it out loud

For the most part, listening to evermore is like being wrapped up in a thick, handwoven blanket, sitting by the fireplace with a hot drink in your hands, and wondering why so many good things have to end. but then “no body, no crime” comes on and you evily smirk at the wild, blazing embers before you that are burning your blood soaked clothes and think, “oh yeah, that’s why”

Can we please talk about how the bridge to Coney Island is a reference to Jake, John, Harry, and Calvin?

Maybe while re-recording, she was reminded of the moments when her past relationships went downhill. I find this all really interesting and I knew that the bridge was important but I think I see it now. I could be wrong, but it’s fun to theorize ✨❤️

This dorm was once a madhouse, I made a joke “well it’s made for me”— they are college sweethearts who started dating as freshmen living in the same dorm which was probably full of drunken debauchery that they partook in, someone is like “this place is a madhouse” and the girl jokes “well it’s made for me” hinting at mental health struggles of some kind/foreshadowing to That Line later on

How evergreen, our group of friends, don’t think we’ll use that word again— they are part of a tight knit group that’s been together the whole four years of college, maybe after, through every season and they’ve probably gotten through a LOT— staying friends through out all four years of college is hard!— but obviously this event, her rejecting his proposal, is going to fracture the group forever

and soon they’ll have the nerve to deck the halls that we once walked through— the aforementioned madhouse dorm and probably their whole college campus to them kind of feels like a sacred place, holy ground where all of these formative and now very bittersweet memories took place for them. But it will soon be filled with a new class of students who will continue on with that aforementioned drunken debauchery and these particular people’s experiences there will be forgotten
