I have moved my Saihara muse from @truthbloomed-a to this blog. I just can’t manage 3 blogs at once right now but I want to write him really badly nonetheless! That being said, he’s open for interactions now.

「 小 吉 く ん 」 ⚖️ [ anoutliar ]
kokichi could only stare at shuuichi for a couple of moments, reluctant and a little worried. he didn’t really have the strength to hold on, so he wasn’t sure if he could truly trust the taller boy to follow through on his promise. but … even though they’d been stuck in the facility, shuuichi’d been working out for a while beforehand, right? some of his muscles had to have stuck around at least a little.
the former leader didn’t so much stand and lean against the detective as he did just fall onto him. weak limbs wrapped around him and his cheek rested against shuuichi’s back. he’d always been underweight, but his coma and the mental health decline he’d been on since waking up had resulted in that turning into a sort of frailty, as though he would break with even the slightest poke.
he hated it. he hated that anyone, even shuuichi, had to know that both his physical and mental states were ready to break. but kokichi was learning to be vulnerable. to trust someone to stay with him.
“ … ‘m in a little pain, shu - chan. ”
What Kokichi couldn’t see was how the taller boy frowned once he felt the weight upon his back. Too light to be healthy and dropped on him as if he didn’t have the strength to grip his shoulders. Since having woken up in reality, Shuuichi had forced himself to keep up with the routine they had established during the game. Or, well... maybe long ago. While his muscle had declined quickly, he was doing his best to rebuild it, for various reasons. His stern expression mellowed again at Kokichi’s honesty.
Carefully, he wrapped his arms around the leader’s legs and stood, slightly hunched over to ensure the other wasn’t going to fall. He seemed to lack the strength to hold on firmly, so he’d have to let gravity do it’s job. He was going to keep his promise, even if it was so small. Steadily yet surely, his legs carried them towards the direction of their makeshift rooms.
“ It’s okay, Kokichi-kun... you seem a little tired, but I’m sure resting is going to help. ” After encouraging him, he uttered a pondering hum. “ Hmm... you are the Ultimate Supreme Leader, correct? Perhaps you could use your authority to ask for favours... ” The corners of Shuuichi’s mouth tugged up in a smile. “ I wouldn’t mind following your lead, if that’s the case.”
He wanted to offer him more options. A way that might make it easier to ask for help.
“ Whose... whose room do you want to go to? I don’t mind either... ” He was trying to hint at an idea, even if he felt a little bashful about it. His words were spoken with care, as if he was trying to gauge Kokichi’s reaction.

「 小 吉 く ん 」 ⚖️ [ anoutliar ]
kokichi hadn’t relaxed since before he even woke up, so it felt strange to TRUST someone. it felt strange to be able to take down the thick walls he’d built up long before the killing game, long before he really had good reason to distrust anyone in their class. he’d been through a lifetime of abuse, and although the game was the trauma that was mainly on his mind right now, it had built up on top of eighteen previous years of it. he got the feeling that, once, he’d fully trusted shuichi in the same way he did now. maybe that was something that made it easier to do so now.
i care for you too was what he WANTED to say, but he couldn’t manage to choke it through the lump in his throat. he couldn’t be honest with that level of his feelings right now. he wanted to, by god did he want to stop lying and just tell shuichi how he felt, but he couldn’t, was too afraid of rejection and being laughed at. so he would stick with the slightly vague affection he’d shown him for now.
“ m - my body? ” he repeated, still sounding rather weak. “ it’s … it’s smokin’ hot as always, shu - chan … ”
he was very clearly making an attempt at his usual joking and happy tone of voice, but failing miserably. he was too tired, too vulnerable, too upset. he sniffled, still clinging tightly to the taller male.
“ no. ” he gave a weak shake to the head. “ no, i’m not tired, i’m okay to stay out here for a while … ”
a lie, but only because he didn’t want to be alone.
Concern melted within the warm depth of a golden sea, changing into gentle care as their gazes met. A small, fatigued smile graced his lips when the other tried for a joke. Even if it failed, at the very least he seemed to have regained some of his usual energy and Shuuichi recognised it in an instant. Perhaps after having spoken so much truth, the leader needed to balance it out... if lying was an urge to him, that made an awful amount of sense. A feeling in his gut told him to proceed differently and he decided to try for it.
Shuuichi left his side, only to kneel on the ground, with his back towards Kokichi. With a small gesture of his hands he urged him to come closer. Before speaking, he made sure to turn his head back and offer him a reassuring smile.
“ Let me carry you. Please? I promise I won’t drop you. ”
He wasn’t planning to abandon him and that included the time they were spending together right now. Something told him Kokichi felt vulnerable, so he’d stay by his side until he had replenished his energy to feel safe on his own again.

「 新島 さ ん 」 ⚖️ [ dixerolled ]
“ you’ve studied how cases go through courts, right? you know what would work as evidence and what wouldn’t. don’t go too far threatening them … a bad cop - good cop routine doesn’t work too well outside of fiction. it’d be best to make them feel like we’re trying to help. compassion works better than threats. ”
she held the door of the lab open for saihara, watching him carefully; her expression was stern, but not unkind, exhaustion in her eyes. very little of that was caused by the case at hand … the main cause was how hard she tended to work herself and how difficult she found it to try and raise her younger sister. perceptive eyes noted the hand on his hat, but she didn’t comment on it, not wanting to risk making him uncomfortable over something she thought was unimportant.
“ i’m sure you know i was the super high - school level lawyer before i graduated, correct? i would often tag along on interrogations and sit in at court. attending hope’s peak is usually all the qualification you need. ”
the police station wasn’t very far away; a walk down to the subway station and two stops along the way. she spent a majority of the travel time in silence, but once they were walking down the sidewalk to the building she felt the need to speak up again; mainly an attempt to reassure. ( funny how she told herself she didn’t have time to babysit, but her big sister instincts kicked in nonetheless. )
“ sometimes criminals will attempt to intimidate you, but i don’t think there’s anything to be worried about here. still, let me know if you get uncomfortable or think you won’t be able to stand your ground. no one will judge you for needing to leave the room. ”
“ Yes. I... we do prioritise that in my uncle’s agency. The way I’ve experienced it, detective work is a lot about compassion. ” Saihara gave a grateful nod when she held the door open for him. Perhaps it should be the other way around? Then again, Niijima didn’t seem like the type to care about these things, if she didn’t prefer the opposite. Politeness could get a little confusing at times, he realised.
“ Alright. ” A detective mostly stayed out of court compared to a lawyer, but he figured the example sufficed. To top it off, he was quite curious: his usual affairs were different from this case and even if the prospect of an interrogation unsettled him, there was an urge inside his heart that incited him to push on. Saihara stayed quiet on their way, busy with taking in their surroundings. Once they were close to the station and she spoke up, he took note that she was trying to encourage him. Saihara offered her an appreciative smile.
“ Thank you, Niijima-san. I... doubt there will be a need, but... thank you. ”
He didn’t want it to be necessary. She’d probably spot his unrest easily, but there was a spark of determination shining in his eyes nonetheless. His time at Hope’s Peak and the bonds he’d created had strengthened his resolve. This was... different. It was going to be alright. He’d have to believe.

「 赤松 さ ん 」 ⚖️ [ ahogechef ]
“I get that. You really are diligent, Mr. Detective!” She giggles. “Though I hope you don’t let it push yourself too hard…” Though despite her worry, she admired how hard working he was. She’d definitely have to learn more about his job as a detective, sometime, she tells herself: since he was willing to indulge her and cook with her…
“Ah, yeah! That’s where I found this… so maybe that’s where it just keeps all the magazines. I decided to keep it in my bag, so I can study more of the recipes for it later in my research lab! ….I’ll never give it back to Monokuma.” She laughs, only partially joking about that.
Seeing him hold the door open for her made her giggle. “My, such a gentleman!” She can’t help but joke before passing through, giving him a bright smile, just to reassure him that he’s doing fine, and that she does appreciate it. “Thanks, Saihara-kun!”
Then when they entered the kitchen, Kaede could feel her already high amount of excitement growing even more. Cooking-especially with others-always made her giddy, and right now: she really would love to just forget about the stress and paranoia of the situation her and everyone else is in.
She places the magazine on the counter, flipping towards the page for the coffee jelly recipe. “Alrighty, so our ingredients are: gelatin powder, water, instant coffee powder, condensed milk, and cream.” They would need extra coffee powder and specifically hot water for later, but she didn’t want to jump ahead too quickly, since they didn’t need to worry about that right now. “Here’s the specific measurements for them here, Saihara-kun. If you’d like, you can measure out the milk and cream… and then I can measure out the rest.”

“ A magazine sounds like a small compensation for being cooped up here.. ”, he stated with an awkward smile, partially a joke. Shuuichi had mixed feelings on their situation. After all, they had been kidnapped and were forced to play this game against their will... yet on the other hand, he was making friends so quickly here. He was a little nervous to admit it, but that fact made him rather happy.
“ ... ” At her teasing jab, he averted his eyes and flushed. Perhaps with her sharp ears, she’d be able to catch onto the quiet whine that escaped him under his breath. The door fell shut and Kaede was already in her element, which pulled him out of his embarrassment fast. Golden eyes skimmed the recipe, before he nodded at her suggestion. “Alright.”
After memorising the numbers, he fetched them utensils and scoured the fridge for the ingredients listed. Maybe he was being nitpicky about the precise measurements, but he’d rather do his work on point than mess up the dish. If they were going to eat it together, he had to do his best. The detective looked unusually stern as he helped her prepare, so much that the swirl of nervous thoughts inside his mind was most likely visible on his face. He wanted to it right...!
“ T...there. Um... What’s next? ”

「 赤松 さ ん 」 ⚖️ [ ahogechef ]
While Shuuichi was busy eating, Kaede took a moment to clean up her section. She was eager to see how he’d love it, though his delighted reaction as he ate was a good sign.
“!” His praising compliment made her eyes light up, Kaede clasping her hands together. “Ah, I’m really glad you love it, Saihara-kun!” Then the next thing he says makes her blink in surprise.
“Huh? R…Really?” Not that she doubted her skills, but even Kaede didn’t expect it’d be that good to him… so she was flustered. “W-Wow, Saihara-kun, that’s… not something I hear everyday, ahaha… th-thank you.”

“ Really? ”, he blinked in surprise at her confession. Shuuichi had spoken with honesty, so it was a little shocking that she didn’t get the same praise more often. It was a happy feeling to have caused the smile on her lips, but now he was slightly concerned. Shouldn’t she get more compliments for her hard work?
“ I thought you get this sort of praise all the time. It’s... I mean it. You really do deserve your title, Akamatsu-san. ” Unlike him, her talent glowed in every way. However, he restrained himself from saying it out loud. He knew she’d get upset with him, since it’d sour his previous words.
While he continued to eat, he savoured every single bite. It was light food, the kind he favoured most. Now that he had shared his opinion, he wondered if he should keep up the conversation somehow. Just that, there was nothing he could think of saying. Perhaps this was the reason why some people told him he was bad at socialising, but alas... his mind drifted off while he was chewing on some rice.
