The Spider
I killed a spider today
The poor little thing caused no trouble
With spindly limbs
She slipped down my bath's rim
And landed smack bang in a bubble.
She was barely the size of a snowflake
Far too sweet to let melt in the foam
I reached out my thumb
To the spider-shaped crumb
In the hopes I could carry her home.
But perhaps in my haste to retrieve her
My nail pierced right through her small frame
And when she was lifted
Her limbs were all twisted
She was limp, and my cheeks burned with shame.
In vain did I clear the bubbles
That clung, web-like, all around her
Her body was still
And against my will
I had left her far worse than I found her.
If my hands were but slightly more gentle
Our difference in size not so great
She could have been saved
From a bubbly grave
Instead, she'd been left to her fate.
I wonder if God feels the same
That his hands are too big, we too little
Nudge becomes shove
And in spite of his love
Like the spider, we're simply too brittle.

General Fandom Terminology
Do you want to be more involved in fandom, but you don’t know all the crazy words fandoms use? Below is a collection of common fandom terms and their definitions.
Fandom - The collective fans of a piece of media (including TV shows, movies, books, comics, video games, etc.).
Fanfiction/fanfic/fic - a fictional work created for free by fans of an existing media about the characters &/or world of that media.

The worst is, some people don't even give non-shipfics a chance. I'm biased. This doesn't make me less right.
Like, read whatever you want, I won't stop you. But gen fics and their authors get ignored in fandom spaces too often - we're here too.
"oh i really love xyz character-" really? outside the context of shipping?

All For the Game - Neil Has a Brother AU (an exceprt)
TW: a slight mention of blood, implied minor character death, AFTG-typical things ig
“Teach me how to play,” his brother asks him after they washed off all the blood and ash and burned the clothes that had their mother’s blood on them.
“Teach me how to protect myself,” he asks him in return, and Nathaniel smiles, his ice-cold eyes hidden behind the contacts, and for the first time, Michael doesn’t see their father in his smile.
He nods and holds his hand as they get on the bus to another city, new documents in their pockets, hair dyed black, new names on their tongues.
“Hi, my name is Neil. What’s yours?”
“Hi, Neil. My name is Marc. It’s nice to meet you.”
“It’s nice to meet you too.”
Just a little silly something for the fandom. I'm not working on it right now, sadly, but I remembered that I wrote this after reading other works for this fandom on AO3, so here it is.

Generation Kill - The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August AU (an excerpt)
During his third life, Josh Ray Person joins the USA Marines. He doesn’t do it because of the TV commercials, or because of some deep patriotism bullshit. He doesn’t do it because he wants to get a better education, or because he believes that the war will solve this world’s every fucking problem. He does it because of an impulsive decision and because there’s no way to back out now, without proving how much of a loser he actually is.
He wasted his first life getting a useless college degree, working for just above-minimal pay, and writing a book that wasn’t even good enough to get published. He wasted his second life trying to decide if he really was as crazy as everyone said. Well, he got his answer - he was right, they were wrong. Congratulations, Mr. Person, you can have this very useful gift! Getting reborn every time you die! Is there a catch, you may ask? Well, of course, there is, what gift would it be, if it didn’t come with a price tag? You have to start at the beginning - and I mean like a just-being-born beginning - and you can’t take anything with you, just your knowledge! No, not even that crappy excuse for a book or a music album that is going to be released in only forty years! Good luck, and have a great time, over, over, and over again, for the next eternity!
Whatever. Mr. Person doesn’t like modern music anyway. He can do with the classics.
Well, I can't believe how old this is. I started working on it in October 2021, and this was one of the first scenes I wrote for this fic. This feels nostalgic. I really hope to finish it and post the whole thing, I spend too much time working on it, just to never let it see the daylight.

I decided to post excerpts of my WIPs every once in a while, because this blog is kind of boring.
Hope I don't change my mind and delete them, as it has been happening so far.
If you want to see something in particular, my wip list is pinned (and has been updated with a new entry!), and you can always try your luck in requesting fandoms.
The next post is already planned.
Have a great day and don't hesitate to pet some cats!
#not writing#I feel like a have to bring this blog to life#not like back to life bc it has aways been dead#and this is the least effort idea I've had so far#since my folder is full of things that are never going to see the light of day#and also sharing facts I learned while researching fics#I need to write that down in case I forget

Mikkel never manages to free Karina before their son is born, before he dies on the Iberian coast, and Thorn gets his wish and drowns with his hand still intact. With no one else to step up it is up to Erak to raise the boy kneeling in his mam’s blood and staring at Erak with Mikkel’s eyes.
Or, Erak thinks his kid can do no wrong, the Wolfwind’s crew are terrible influences, and Hal’s survival instincts have never existed in the first place.
An excerpt: “You took a child on a raid?” he echoes with disappointment and something harsher, as if being a father made him qualified to judge the Skandian ways of childrearing. It does not, for the record. “We know he's not supposed to be here,” explains Svengal, already tired. Maybe this is how Erak feels basically every day of his life. He turns to Hal, and glares at him. “He knows he's not supposed to be here. He’s here anyway. Drop it.”
