Getting to Know Rattikin Title
Tumblr media
In recognition of Rattikin Title’s 75+ years of service and deep roots in Fort Worth, we wanted to walk down memory lane with our #Scouted member and revisit a few of the most defining years in their storied history. From throwing their sovereign title plant from a second story window to their tradition of keeping leadership in the family, follow along…
1916 – Founder, Jack Rattikin Sr. graduates from the University of Texas Law School and returns to Fort Worth to begin his career in the Title industry.
1943 - Jack Sr. is gifted a title plant, with one stipulation: the entire plant must be moved from its existing building by 5:00pm that evening. Jack Sr. hires a trucking company and tosses the cards from the second story window to the truck.
1944 - Rattikin Title is officially formed, taking up residence in the First National Bank Building at 7th and Houston.
From Sundance Square to the Bass Performance Center, Rattikin Title is deeply tied to Fort Worth, and has closed almost every piece of property in Downtown Fort Worth.
1969 - Jack Sr. passes leadership title to Jack Jr.
Like their commitment to Fort Worth, Rattikin Title is deeply dedicated to family. All three of Rattikin Title’s CEOs have been Rattikin men who grew up in the business.
2004 - Jack Jr. passes leadership to Rattikin Title’s third and most current CEO, Jack Rattikin III.
“Our local community is vitally important to us. We encourage our staff, family and friends to support local businesses, retailers, restaurants and sports teams within our community.” Jack Rattikin III
Tumblr media
From left to right, Jack Rattikin Jr. and Jack Rattikin III
2019 – Rattikin Title celebrates its 75th Anniversary.
2020 - Rattikin Title continues to serve Fort Worth as an essential business.

5 Pool Trends You Need to Know
Tumblr media
If the past few months have given us anything, it’s a deeper appreciation for the backyard oasis that is a swimming pool. And whether this deepened appreciation has you planning on a new pool or a new look for your existing pool, you’re going to want to know what our #Scouted experts, J Caldwell Custom Pools, have to say on up and coming pool trends.
With over twenty years in the industry, John Caldwell and Taylor Christopher are Fort Worth’s experts on everything from service, construction and remodeling of pools. So, when they dished on their five favorite trends, we listened. And so should you!
Keep reading for the 5 Swimming Pool Trends that will make your backyard a destination…
Tumblr media
Keep it Clean | Everyone knows “less is more,” and this year that philosophy applies in full force to pool and spa design. Straight lines can pack a powerful punch, especially when combined with our next favorite 2020 trend…
Tumblr media
Something Special | Elevate your custom swimming pool with speciality materials, and add interest by combining different finishes. J Caldwell Custom Pools’ current favorite speciality materials are Porcelain Pavers, Travertine Ledgestone, and Concrete Deco Tiles!
Tumblr media
Decked in Green | We’ve always loved the grass block paver trend, and are excited to see it used around pools. It’s a sophisticated touch that can be very low maintenance when turf is used!
Tumblr media
Summer Whites | Looking for a finish that will withstand the test of time? Opt for a white interior finish, which offers a classic, smooth appearance.
Tumblr media
Synchronized Swimming | Synchronize accent LED lighting to your pool lights to pack an extra punch on night swims and finish your new backyard oaisis perfectly!
Thinking about remodeling or building a custom pool? Reach out to J Caldwell Custom Pools, and don’t forget to tell them Scout sent you!

24-Hours with Ida and Ted of The Duwe-Olsen Group, A Williams Trew Company
Tumblr media
Ted Olsen (left) and Ida Duwe-Olsen, photographed by Carol Riell Photography.
Ida Duwe-Olsen and Ted Olsen, of The Duwe-Olsen Group, are not only real estate professionals at the top of their game, they make running a business with a spouse look easy and they have a good understanding and appreciation for the importance of a work/life balance.
But, most importantly they make buying and/or selling a home a whole lot of fun (with the hopes of making some lasting friendships along the way)!  With a combined 22 years experience in the industry, their knowledge runs deep.  They have already sold over 40 homes in 2019 and show no signs of slowing down.
We are excited to share "a day in the life” with this energetic, physically fit, power couple who will inspire anyone to explore buying a new home!
While a typical day of a busy real estate professional can be unpredictable Ida and Ted strive to maintain balance, prioritize relationships, and keep some consistencies.
6:15 a.m.:  Ted wakes up, makes the coffee, and catches a bit of the morning news. But before he’s off for his daily 1-mile swim, he brings Ida coffee in bed (morning ritual at 6:45) while they discuss the schedule for the upcoming day (s) and check emails.  Please note – “coffee in bed” - it might seem like a small gesture, but it is one that Ida cherishes.
7:30 a.m.:  Ida jogs trinity trails (weather permitting) and/or catches a yoga class.
8:00 a.m.:  Ida is dedicated to her skincare regime that includes Alastin products, Tata Harper Resurfacing Mask, monthly Hydra-facials at Steven Camp’s Orange Twist, and daily sunscreen.
Breakfast is a must!  Typically, breakfast consists of a protein shake or eggs.  Weekend splurges are protein waffles and Ted’s famous “moon eggs”!
This stylish couple dresses mostly business casual for the average workday; walking through downtown Fort Worth, showing houses, and climbing stairs are all daily requirements. You will see Ida around town sporting sneakers and blazers most days, with treasured vintage jewelry or pieces from travels to Venice Beach or France.
9:00 a.m.:  Check-in at the office, respond to emails, confirm upcoming photoshoots and plan social media posts for the week.
10:00 a.m.:  Weekly meeting and caravan tour with Williams Trew (every Thursday).
11:00 a.m.:  Implement marketing plan for a new Pre-MLS listing, finalize upcoming events, brainstorm on prospective business strategies and define target launch for new listings in the pipeline.
12:00 p.m.:  Usually headed to a lunch meeting at this point or hosting a luncheon for brokers to tour a new listing. Local favorites include Righteous Foods and Pacific Table. Panera Bread salad delivery is sometimes required on days when we are unable to leave the office.
1:00 p.m.:  Meet with local artist, Ginger Walker, about incorporating a few of her pieces into a new pre-MLS listing.  Beautiful artwork on the walls can make all the difference in the world when it comes to selling a home.
1:30 p.m.:  Meet with a prospective seller about recommendations for selling their home. Topics of discussion may include possible complete home staging by Tina McMackin with Arrange Home Staging, have a countertop replaced, new paint job, landscaping etc.
2:30 p.m.:  Today we are closing on the sale of a home on the west side of Fort Worth with repeat clients.  After closing at the title company, head back to Tanglewood to present a marketing plan to a prospective new client interested in selling their home.
4:00 p.m.:  Headed back to the office to re-group, finalize on an option period ending at 5pm and follow up on emails.
5:30 p.m.:  Last client meeting of the day.  We are showing properties to a family moving to the area.  They love the last house on the tour and ready to make an offer.  We contact the selling agent and submit the offer before leaving for the day.
7:00 p.m.:  “Ted is the best chef”; he prepares lamb or salmon on the grill at home often and even makes delicious sushi.  If eating out they will hit up a local favorite like Clay Pidgeon, Winslows, or Tokyo Cafe.
One weekly event that never changes is date night every Thursday night - no matter how hectic life becomes - it is a priority to slow down and connect.
Evening walks, enjoying a glass of wine outdoors at home and time with their pug “Sushi” are a few ways Ida and Ted will decompress from a long, hectic day.
10:30 p.m.:  Bedtime ritual for Ida includes a cup of hot tea and targets to have lights out no later than 10:00 p.m. but settles for 10:30 p.m.
Ted is more of a night owl and will finish up a few tasks before going to bed at 11-ish.
Personal travel is something the couple loves to do together as much as possible.  Destinations typically include places for physical activity outdoors like sailing, surfing, swimming, biking, and/or hiking.
Words to live by:
Ted:  Live and Let Live.
Ida:  Be present.

Up Close and Personal:  Ian Lobreto and Thomas Serapiglia of The Salon Fort Worth
Tumblr media
TSG Fort Worth Volume 5 Spread (Photo cred:  Jason Kindig Photography)
The Salon on Camp Bowie in Fort Worth is the Kerastase and Shu Uemura headquarters in our area. Owned and operated by beloved Ian Lobreto and Thomas Serapiglia – The Salon, celebrating 7 years in business, has built a wonderful reputation by providing a high-end, quality hair care experience where everyone is welcome.  We are excited to share some highlights from our recent visit with Ian and Thomas about how they got started and some lessons they have learned over the years.
TSG FORT WORTH:  What motivated you to open The Salon?
THOMAS:  It was always our dream to have a salon of our own. After many years of experience working behind someone else’s chair, we gathered the courage to build on that dream.
IAN:  From here, we came together and consulted with a design team out of LA and became part of the Kerastase team.  Thomas and I had a mutual determination to open a shop that provided not only a clean/organized environment, but an environment designed specifically for maximum comfort and ease for every client.  For example, we provide special drawers for handbags, and a convenient stand to set drinks while clients are being styled.
TSG FORT WORTH:  What are some lessons you have learned over the years?
THOMAS:  We have learned the importance of having the utmost patience not only with customers but employees as well.
IAN:  It is an educational process with our customers, especially in this modern day of “selfies”.  When ladies bring in pictures of hair color they’d like to achieve for themselves, we must educate the customer about the lighting that may have been used in the photo. Was the photo taken outdoors or in a closet?
Tumblr media
Ian Lobreto, Co-Owner The Salon (Photo cred:  Elle Boone Photography)
TSG FORT WORTH:  What sets The Salon apart from other establishments in town?
THOMAS:  We take a lot of pride in providing a wonderful experience for everyone that walks in our door.  Also - we work very hard stay “in the know” about all the current trends in hair care and color.  We travel to hair shows all over the country to stay on the cutting edge.  We take regular trips to shows in London, LA, Vegas, Chicago, and New York.
IAN:  So many trends are cyclical like the balayage technique which is currently making a comeback.  We know how to do it all.
THOMAS:  Also - we are so confident in the Kerastase and Shu Uemura products that we sell (and use) that we will offer a complimentary shampoo and condition to anyone that wants to try it!
TSG FORT WORTH:  What do you see for the future of The Salon?
IAN:  Continue to increase our loyal customer base and continue to be pioneers when it comes to color, cutting, and styling.
THOMAS:  Maintain our wonderful relationships with our existing customers.
TSG FORT WORTH:  How do you like to spend your time off?
THOMAS:  We love to host our close friends for a nice dinner party at home.
IAN:  A good cheese board and olives are always served.
TSG FORT WORTH:  What are some words you live by?
THOMAS:  Every day we strive to stay true to ourselves and make time to spend quality time with the people we love.
IAN:  Everybody has a name.  Everybody has a purpose.  We are all in it together. And every day is an opportunity to learn something new.
We are so thrilled to have Scouted this wonderful establishment.  Be sure to contact Ian and Thomas for your next visit to The Salon!

Whether you are way overdue for a little “self-care”, need a little extra glow for an upcoming event, or exploring ways to enhance your regular beauty routine – the HydraFacial at Steven Camp’s Orange Twist is an absolute “must” and here’s why:
The results are instant and long lasting. Skin appears supple, bright and dewy immediately following the treatment. Makeup glides on better and the “glow” is long lasting.
Frequent treatments help restore and promote skin health.
Treatments may be tailored with super serums to address specific skin concerns (like aging, sunspots, fine lines and wrinkles).
The HydraFacial comprehensive 3-step process will benefit all skin types:
Cleanse + Peel:  Uncover a new layer of skin with gentle exfoliation and relaxing resurfacing.
Extract + Hydrate:  Remove debris from pores with painless suction.  Nourish with intense moisturizers the quench skin.
Fuse + Protect:  Saturate the skin’s surface with antioxidants and peptides to maximize your glow.
I have had many facials over the years and I can honestly say that this is one of the most effective and efficient treatments I have ever received, with no downtime or irritation. Make your appointment by calling 817-717-6581. Tell them Scout sent you!  xo

Spring Member Mingle at LOCAL Design Studios + Gallery
We had the absolute best time at our annual Spring Party last week at LOCAL Design Studios + Gallery!  It was such a fun and festive occasion to see all of our favorite people, have the chance to catch up, and celebrate current members and future members of The Scout Guide Fort Worth in a beautiful setting!

The passed appetizers included:
Prosciutto Wrapped Fig and Arugula,
House made Lemon Ricotta Crostini with Plural Butter,

We enjoyed music by singer/songwriter, Andrew Sullivan Music. Andrew draws inspiration from country and pop artists like George Strait, Ben Rector and Jason Isbell. His mix of original pieces and familiar tunes was the perfect backdrop for our special event.

We also offered the opportunity for guests to have a professional headshot taken by Official TSG Photographer, Jason Kindig.  Having your headshot taken is a task that many dread, however, it’s so important to have a fresh photo of yourself, especially as a small business owner.
Fear not, because we have perfected the formula: by mixing in the expertise of Ashley McNabb Artistry for make-up touch-ups, a little liquid courage, and some familiar faces and everyone’s photophobia vanishes.  Plus, Jason is especially skilled at putting clients at ease so that the photography reflects their desired personality and style.
