With job changes and Alex being around less and less; the routine daily/often travel has decreased. So trying new places has slowed down. I canât complain too much since so many other costs of travel and such have increased. Luckily for me some work travel this past week had me in KC and I took the opportunity to check out Burger Stateâs Wednesday Special. They are on Wornall Road in KC. A site visit took me to about 5 miles away so i decided to check it out. I assure you there is a tenderloin under that leaf of lettuce. It was good and i enjoyed it. Would i specifically seek it out again? No. I would rather pursue one of the different burger options they have. This BPT falls more into the âfritterâ definition. Which is a hotly debated topic in some of the tenderloin circles. Personally I just enjoy any form of the BPT. Enjoyed the fries and the horseradish sauce. Recommend it if you want to check out something new.

Been busy this last month and got behind in posting. Graduation and all surrounded it and work as well. Found this one in Trenton, MO at a place called Chumbleyâs. We had spent the day in Jamesport getting some flowers over the Motherâs Day weekend, and decided to drive up the road a little after finding the dining options in Jamesport very busy. It was tasty and good! Trips and finding new BPTs have become farther and fewer between; primarily as Alexâs time with travel swim came to an end. So now the adventure begins as Jennifer and I start looking at adventures on our own. Between hobbies and enjoying going to see our children as they have move away, I am excited to find new opportunities.

Found this one at PlanetComicon this March 2025. It is from Irvzillaâs Hawaiian Grill out of Blue Springs, MO. Their food truck came to the event. It is pretty obvious that they have added some items not tradition sold as hawaiian grill. They had what they listed as an âAmerican menuâ. I am always hesitant of fair and truck versions so I go in with lowered expectations. However, I was pleased with how tasty it was and hit the spot. Pricing is as any food/fair would expect. This was a nice gem to find amongst the time I spent at the Con.

Sunday brunch found us as the Bluebird Diner also in Downtown Iowa City. A very popular place we have talked about making it to. Often the wait was a barrier. We were able to slip in before the rush. While Ian and Jennifer went for the breakfast items I of course was happy to partake of a tenderloin. The special smores reach toast was Jenniferâs choice and Ian had and omelet. I decided to try something new and tried the cole slaw and was pleasantly surprised I didnât hate it. Sometimes trying something new isnât bad. This whole meal was little differently dressed as it came with an olive and I chose a glass of apple juice to drink.

Made the trip to Iowa City this past weekend to see Ian. He chose Mickeyâs Irish Pun in downtown Iowa City. We were able to meet and eat with two of his friends Tiffany and Cameron. It was nice to meet his friends, and check in with him. Kind of went crazy enjoying scotch eggs with a stone ground mustard that made my eyes water along with the tenderloin and a side of clam chowder. The eggs were good. I was able to talk Ian into trying them but no one else. Do recommend trying this place out it in town.

Generally I donât take a noon hour as I like to knock out my days quickly. Just happened to be I had some time and this place, Raeâs Cafe in Independence was exactly between two points I as travelling during the day for work recently. So I took the time and caught up on my emails I grabbed a bite. It was good and would recommend. In one of those rare situations the cheese and lettuce covered it but is there.

We bought a car in the middle of rainstorm so of course we had to stop on the way home to get something to eat. We stopped at Callahanâs in Lenexa, KS. I believe it may also have been called Callahanâs West. In another recent post we had eaten at Murphyâs Corner which is where Callahanâs sister restaurant (Callanhanâs on 87th) used to be. It was enjoyable as we celebrated Alexâs new car before heading back to St Joseph.

Another case of new place in an old location. Recently checked out Murphyâs Corner on 87th street in Lenexa, KS. After finding a new board game, Jennifer and I checked out this place where a previous place (Callahanâs was) was that we visited in the past. Although they appeared to have had a problem with a car running through the front door recently, it was up and running. Great tenderloin. I went a little too heavy on the horseradish on this one but it was a good one. Nice and thick and tasty with of course the cottage cheese,

Often seeing the name of this local KC Chain, I never knew that Texas Tomâs had one. This is from the location on N. Oak Trafficway. While it is isnât the big breaded thick ones of the more traditional sit down places, this stood up to the test and is good fast food option. Better than others I may have had. Also, couldnât beat the price for a meal. Cheaper than other places as well.

Gettemeier's in St. Peterâs, MO
The weekend trip for the State Swim meet brought me to this place. It was with the group of parents after the preliminary swim session. Then came the unexpected gift of watching Mike Tysonâs bare butt on tv. Overall I did enjoy this sandwich, coupled with a few Yuengling Flights. The was made better with Ian also visiting.

Back at it again, Omaha and Nebraska Pork are sponsoring The Omaha Tenderlio Trail 2.0. First Stop was Catfish Lake at the Lodge in Bellevue, NE. Just a small day trip for Jennifer to find a cross stitch store, lunch and a return home. Soni am. ow eyeing both the Iowa Trail and the Omaha Trail. If only Missouri could get something similar.

It was a busy day in KC yesterday. The last ever away regular season meet for Alex at Blue Springs South started off the day. Followed up by a visit to one of Jennifer favorite stores in Leeâs Summit which luckily was right next to Legacy Grill (formerly Tiff nâ Jays) and where I had this nice sandwich. This had a horseradish option so I piled that on and enjoyed this while we caught part of the Mizzou game. (the part with the long run just shy of the touchdown) before heading to the Brass Armadillo to wander, capped off with the fighting, blood, winning at chuck a a puck and eventual win for the Mavericks with about 1 minute left in the game. Really I share this because when I find some BPTs, is because they are happy little finds while enjoying time doing things with family.

I have shared this shirt before. This weekend 10/12/24 it made me feel kind of like a celebrity so to speak. I chose to wear this on a family trip to Springfield, MO. While at Lindbergâs (I do recommend) for dinner. No tenderloin on the menu but a good variety of options. I had the Lobster grilled cheese. That said, our waiter was impressed by my shirt and wanted to take a picture of it. He stated, his friend is in a group of tenderloin enthusiasts on facebook and wanted to send the pic to him. Pretty sure I belong to the same one. That said regardless of what you like or what makes you happyâ- enjoy it, wear it, share it. You never know when you might meet other enthusiasts and or bring joy to someone elseâs life

Trumanâs Bar and Grill, Columbia, MO
Discovered this one tonight after the COMO Invite Swim Meet Prelims. Knowing we needed to get out of the Mizzou campus and downtown if we didnât want to wait, we headed west and came upon this place. Pretty tasty and do recommend. Although a new place to find, it is kind of bittersweet. This being one of the last big travel swim meets Jennifer and I will attend for Alex. As many know the last 9 years of my social media has been about swimming. A shout out to all travel sport parents. When it ends itâs kind of sad. I have so many fond memories of crazy antics, surprising victories and frustrating defeats. Along the way came some fun tenderloins. Ultimately though I am proud of Alex and what he has become during this time. A leader and mentor to the younger swim team members. Although it seems I have veered off the whole tenderloin trail topic but truth is it has always been intertwined with Alex and our travels these last 8-9 years.

Finally made it back to the Horseshoe Pub and Grill in Lathrop, MO. And glad I did! Our first try was on a whim and happened to land in the middle of homecoming celebration so their menu was adjusted and I tried the Tenderloin Strips. Also great, but I had to get back to try the real thing. So while Jennifer was out I took a nice little trip. I do recommend! I modified with cheese and bacon and added some horseradish sauce. Nice and thick and tender. I do recommend trying in the area. Also took the time while eating to plan out my Iowa Trail trips over the next 6 months. I have to visit 10 of 14 locations,, so I decided to dismiss the 4 northern most. Without planning it will be a time crunch with winter weather, swim season, graduation and the upcoming KC Mavericks hockey season. All that will occur between now and June 1st

While not initially on the plans for our trip to Iowa City while we saw Ian, this became the goto after realizing we would have a long wait at the first brunch option on Labor Day. Great weather and we were able to sit on the patio. A nice restaurant just down the road from Kinnick Stadium and Ianâs new apartment (1/2 mile to be exact). Really enjoyed this one. Labeled âIowa Favoriteâ on the menu. While I chose to avoid the onions and pickles the mustard remained and I added some swiss. It paired well with the hand cut fries, appetizer of cajun cheese curds and my TAP wheat beer from Lion Bridge. The beer batter was a nice change as I donât get that often. The menu has lots of options for burgers and chicken sandwiches among many other food options.
