We no longer have access to baby milk, and its market price has reached an astronomical level, beyond our ability to bear it. The situation is critical. Children cannot tolerate hunger, and any delay could leave an indelible mark on their health. We urgently need to secure funds to purchase milk, and our only recourse is to appeal to compassionate people. Children scream around the clock from hunger. Their tiny bodies are wasting away day by day, and mothers are unable to breastfeed them due to hunger and malnutrition. You feel that milk has become a distant dream, its exorbitant market price closing the window of hope before our eyes. When you see a child writhing in hunger before you and you have nothing to feed them, you feel an irreparable heartbreak.
these were messages i got from @siraj0 last night. his family has two infants in it who are at an urgent risk of malnutrition. this is an emergency situation and he needs funding now.
gaza survival funds are rapidly losing support as people stop paying attention. but the situation continues to escalate to unthinkable levels of suffering. please donate and share.

American imperialism has always been directed inwards (on the stolen territory) and outwards (outside the stolen territory), but in different ratios. Up until Cold War, the vast majority of America's imperial missions were directed inwards on the stolen territory at the Indigenous / Black communities therein; but they were not the only imperial activities (partial or total control of some states in the Caribbean or South America, conquests of Mexican territory, etc...). Once the Cold War began after the fall of imperial Europe in the aftermath of WWII and the U.S. took over in England and France's power vacuum, the vast majority of the imperialism was directed outwards, complete hijacking and covert control of South America, Central Asia, West Asia, etc... mass bombings destruction of West Asia and South East Asia, but this didn't completely eliminate the inwards imperial missions (FBI destroying Civil Rights movements, the psyops to de-radicalize Black nationalists and make them remove themselves from Third-Worldism, crack epidemic, etc...)
If you cannot acknowledge these basic facts you are not someone I consider worth talking politics with in any capacity.

The great thing about Gus is that he perfectly oscillates from playing the annoyed straight man to Shawn’s general insanity to yes-anding to an insane degree. For every moment where he says no Shawn, you did not hear that both ways there’s a moment where he, with no prompting, claims that his fictitious grandmother with a broken hip was teaching a line dancing class. For every time he says Shawn, stop messing around at work, there is a time where after Shawn says he’s been “looking at the man in the mirror”, Gus, in a move that never ever fails to make me laugh, with a completely straight face and no impact on the conversation, does the Michael Jackson “he-he”. He’s insane. He thinks he’s normal. He does 11 point turns. He’s a sympathetic crier.

I think it’s patently false to say linguistics as a field tries to not be political when the whole field of sociolinguistics delves heavily into this openly explicitly. Also prescriptivism is inherently an oppressive thing that — of course anti-prescriptivism is political.
I think you can def criticize academics circles in linguistics for avoiding politics but to say the entirety of the linguistics field tries to avoid politics when there are linguistics academics who dedicate their life to investigating the political elements of linguistics and how language is intertwined with politics is downright incorrect.
I think linguists have, broadly, a culture of strong resistance to the core of the field being politicized. This comes in the form of a mathematician-esque kneejerk "we don't do our work for any practical reason, we do it for the love of the game, now leave us to our puzzles" attitude. This is stronger in some sectors of the field than others. But I think if you look at, say, economics—arguably the most politicized semi-technical field out there—you will see what an epistemic disaster the alternate path can be.

With RFK JR defunding narcan access, I’d like to remind Americans this:
Don’t throw out your expired narcan.
If that’s all you have, use it. It’s better than nothing.
The expiration date was recently extended to have a shelf life from 2 to 3 years.
Studies have shown that the efficacy of narcan can last years if not decades after the expiration date.
Don’t throw out your expired narcan.
Obviously if you have new stuff, use that first but if it’s all you got, use it.
