"you hate capitalism because you're jealous of rich people" well I wouldn't mind having an in-ground pool but there's also other reasons to hate capitalism such as the fact that owning a chocolate company that doesn't use fucking child slavery earns you praise because it's so uncommon, or the fact that it by design results in repeat economic collapses when the average consumer can't afford to stimulate the economy, or the fact that our future (and current) existence on planet earth is full of detrimental environmental disasters because pursuing fossil fuels was more profitable in the short-term, or the fact that entire wars are started specifically to make money, or...yeah the list goes on

Considering what they did with "Tales from Earthsea" and "Howl's Moving Castle" as adaptations, I'm afraid that's going to be a pass from me, friend.

Ghibli films are great, some are possibly the greatest, but this strikes me as 100% a monkey's paw wish.

It would probably be something beautiful built on the same skeleton, but it wouldn't be DISCWORLD, you know?

"Leverage" isn't my favorite TV show, but only because I haven't rewatched it recently. It usually reclaims the top spot every time that happens.

And here's the wild thing: The reasons above aren't just why it can do that.

They're a part of why, sure. But the fact that there's everything above AND EVEN MORE? Now that right there is special.

I just want to remind everybody

Leverage gave us a middle-aged couple who impetuously fell into bed and had hot passionate sex, then cleaned up their acts emotionally before committing to each other in marriage.

Leverage gave us a young black man gently, wisely courting a non-neurotypical blonde white woman.

Leverage gave us a young black man whose two white male best friends both describe him as the smartest man they’ve ever known.

Leverage gave us a guitar-playing country boy, an ex-hitman and army vet, who puts his life in the hands of a geeky black man and his blonde girlfriend (till death do them part).

Leverage gave us Parker, Sophie, Maggie, and Tara; it also gave us female villains with as much cunning, ruthlessness, and agency as any man’s. 

Leverage gave us villains who were rich, powerful, greedy white people who had to have just a little bit more, and a clever, cunning, usually compassionate, occasionally terrifying white guy who beat them at their own game and robbed the rich to help the poor.

We've been friends for almost twenty years and I've never been more disappointed in you.

One thing you need to know about me is this: For every appropriate course of action or resolution I understand that I need to take, I’ve also thought of at least six other ways that I can make the situation worse and/or funnier.

See, acceptable actions are sometimes a middle-ground. A limp handshake, an acquiescence. A weak, Centrist commitment to keeping the peace at any cost. But the right unacceptable action can shake the foundations, topple the existing structure, force everyone to build back - hopefully better this time. I’m like a friend-group accelerationist on the inside. The shortest distance between two points sometimes requires a little well-placed dynamite. I just usually don’t because I’m a coward who hates it when everyone is mad at me.

This is why I sat for 20 minutes running scenarios in my head, my thumb poised over my phone like a finger on the trigger, trying to decide if sending a no-context Winking Kiss emoji to a friend whose partner is absolutely controlling their social media would be worth the cost.

every now and again i think "surely it can't be that weird for a child to sort things, it has to be something every child does"

and then i remember that my mother finally had an allistic child after two autistic kids in a row and was baffled and annoyed to find out she couldn't just keep him occupied by sticking a box of unsorted buttons in front of him and let him sort them

like my mother thought, exactly like i do sometimes, that surely every child must just sit there and sort whatever is in front of them but no, actually, most of my non autistic peers didn't do this and thought i was a fucking weirdo for doing it

anyway i still struggle to believe that most people don't find deep enjoyment in sitting there and arbitrarily sorting shit. what do they even do if they need to do data entry? do they just suffer? weirdos.

Its always fun to see people saying Do Not Start Discworld With Colour Of Magic (because it's not as good as later books and they dont want to put people off) when I actually started with Light Fantastic,
