nothing in my mind except neil josten doing those gimmicky interviews
lie detector interview? he lies flawlessly. they ask him what team he’s on to test it and he says the trojans. the needle doesn’t move. no one knows what to do
answering the internet’s most googled question? neil doesn’t give away shit. (“what is neil jostens favorite hobby?” “lying to cops”) every question is answered with some version of your mother or an anecdote about something illegal
hot wings but neil and kevin do it versus each other. it quickly devolves into psychological warfare. neil adds hot sauce to kevin’s wing when he’s not looking
neil takes a buzzfeed which exy player are you the most like and when he gets riko he just walks out
literally any gimmicky pr stunt just dissolves into chaos

and i think something that gets missed from the conversation a lot about jk rowling - or really, any person in a position of power - is the importance of what happens after.
because you can say you just pretend that she didn't write the books, you can say that one day she'll be gone and you can say that she's only one person,,, but she isn't.
she's every single politician she has shaken hands with and sat around a conference table with, and in turn, she is every single person that clings to the words of these politicians. every single person who is struggling with the state of world right now and desperately clings to scapegoats as some kind of saving grace.
she's every single member of the organisations that she has worked with, laying the foundations of their motives and paving the way for their bigotry. she's every single person in these ever-growing organisations and they're feeding off of her thoughts, her popularity, and her wealth.
she's every single person that retweets her posts on X. she's every single person applauding her in the replies and she's, in turn, every single person that they interact with. their coworkers, their friends, their potential kids that fall in love with these stories like we once did and are told what to think of jkr by these parents. who grow up surrounded by that mindset.
and you see it all the time. "she's just one person". is she?? is anyone ever really just One Person?? i don't think so. i think we're a mosaic of everyone we ever meet, i think we're a spider's web of connections and interactions, long-term relationships and sparse meetings alike. have you ever clicked on that web option on tumblr? where it shows you your original post, and every reblog from it? have you ever seen how the silly post you made about a character expanded into this massive, tangled mess of connections and accounts and people through a bunch of individual reblogs? that's what i'm getting at here.
which is why these conversations are so important because it's so easy to brush it off as not that deep. as just one person. as just jk rowling do jk rowling things.
but it's also every person in comment sections right now defending tom felton. every single person in posts about the reboot, the studios, the merchandise who have shown that transphobia, racism, anti-semitism etc etc are not dealbreakers.
it's Every Single Person.
and they'll be in the comments defending their engagement by saying "one person doesn't make a difference !!" but,,, we're never just "one person".
i write a post online or i talk on tiktok and every single view is A Person. every single Comment is a person. every single person that then goes on to other comment sections then opens up another connection. every single person that posts about jk rowling reaches their people, every single person there then has the opportunity to take it further, to their accounts, to their families, to their friends, to their People. they then take it to their people, their lives, their corner of the world.
and if we keep framing both the bigotry and the fight against it as just one person, then we get nowhere. not only does the fight become bleak and less powerful every time someone says "i'm just one person", but the After gets scarier too.
because if we spend all this time acting as though the bigotry is contained, we're going to have to no idea how to cope with the spores that remain after the infection has "passed".
so yes, i think it's important to talk about tom felton. yes, i think it's important to talk about ralph fiennes. about ben barnes. about jason isaacs. about bonnie wright (who, although expressed support of the trans community, has done work with JKR and the HP franchise since). about helena bonham carter. about every single actor from the original films who remains either on the fence, or strictly on her side.
and yes, i think it's important that we stress how much your own individual impacts Do Have An Impact. that you get to choose whether that impact is positive or negative.
because it all exists in tandem with one another. because we're all connected in so many ways, because it's never just One Person. because it's never as isolated of an effort as it sometimes feels (and yeah, it really does feel like it sometimes. but it's not).
because there IS going to be an after. and when JKR is paving the way for anti-trans laws right now? when JKR is so powerful in her bigotry, when organisations gain more power through her and her own organisation pop up? when those that support her face no accountability?
the After isn't going to be the end of this. we're not going to see an end to bigotry if we keep viewing it as some isolated condition rather than a socially contracted infection. you know? you get me? this is going to Continue well after she's gone. it's never just one person.
the reason any singular person can be seen to have power is because of those that listen to them and grant their voice value. yours has that value too, you're not just one person, and you absolutely can make a difference. put tom felton and the reboot down, go interact with your ecosystem.

What a post to wake up to! Hi, hello, why are we still surprised about Tom Felton being the loyal grateful...well. I will not finish that sentence since I was going to go in nasty teritory.
What can I add to the two wonderful and eloquent people that have already said it all? I just want to urge people once again to LISTEN. Not just hear them out, actively read, and actively listen to them, and all the other people that are voicing the same thing.
I say this as someone in the gray area, very much questioning, very late in life, because I was in a big bubble surrounded by hatred and bigotry, all wrapped up with a nice bow that represented a sence of normality. And the most important thing I ever learnt in my 33 years of life is to listen and take in words. Not just dismiss and think about my own circumstances.
Nobody is asking you to do something that would make you unsafe!
There. I said it. Not everyone needs to be an activist, out there loud and proud to the point that you put your job and wellbeing in danger. They are asking you for basic human decency. To acknowledge that everyone deserves to live a peaceful, normal life. That is it. So why is this concept so difficult to grasp?
Because people are uncomfortable with change in the status quo. People are scared to acknowledge that they actually admired a horrible person, and will look for every last bit of excuse they can pull out of thin air to justify that they are not bad people.
And I get it. I didn't want to acknowledge that my favourite childhood author, for which I had actual fights with my most hated literature teacher that scared me, (hindsight is everything, but for different reasons. Ironic am I right?) was a loud and proud bigot, and an even bigger bully that hides behind "women's rights". (Like what?)
To return to the original point. Tom Felton is not some naive boy that is unaware of what is going on. He just chooses to ignore it blatantly in favour of his comfortable life. And when he still has so many adoring fans, are we really surprised? Need I remind you, he even received a copy of a fanfiction?(that still makes me uncomfortable to think about)
He ignores it, because he can. Because the fans he has allow him to. Because as long as nobody calls him out in such a blatant way that it actually affects him, he won't care. He is only out for himself.
Yes, this makes him not only transphobic in my opinion, but a wilfully ignorant bigot.
Emma Watson is still friends with him so obviously he’s not transphobic. Maybe what he says publicly and what he says privately are different. It’s a concept that once you grow up a bit you will understand as well. People aren’t required to give up paying jobs for your “activism.”
hello ! welcome to my lil page <3 i would normally ignore these type of ones but i would love to yap about tom felton so here we go:
i think a big thing that gets lost a lot in these discussions is all the inbetween areas. all the grey, all the vast space between "huge advocate and ally that dedicated their entire life, career and bank account to the cause" and "big loud transphobic bigot"
there's a lot of grey space inbetween, that's what discussions about engaging with this franchise cover. take the very simple example of people buying merchandise - does buying merchandise mean that the individual is transphobic? not necessarily, no. they could be someone who considers themselves an ally, they could be somebody who is entirely and wholly accepting of trans rights yet maybe they are uneducated about profits and where they go. maybe they are in the mindset of "separate art from artist!" and they need a hand in recognising that it isn't possible when the artist is still actively profiting and actively uses that profit for harm.
in the case of the post you're referencing where i say that tom felton taking a role in CC isn't surprising, at no point do i say he is transphobic. because there's grey space. he has never openly been transphobic nor has he - as far as i am aware - openly agreed with jkr's views.
however, he continues to engage with the franchise through profitable means. throughout his entire career, he has done promotions and events etc etc that directly profit jkr, and directly contribute to the franchise. he also has explicitly said that we should separate art from artist and that he thinks that jkr is entitled to saying what she thinsk
does that make him inherently transphobic? i don't think so, no. does it make him pro-trans? no. does it make him questionable in this area? yes.
does it, ultimately, make him somebody that had consistently shown that transphobia is not a dealbreaker, and thus, it is not surprising when he joins CC? yes. it is not surprising. yes, it is something that - if you are somebody that cares about protecting the minorites that jkr continues to harm with money gained through projects like this - should be talked about and acknowledged and, yes, criticised even if it is somebody you look up to.
there's a lot of grey space and i think the dismissal of that nuance is why discussions about ethics in this space ultimately lead to nothing - when you try to talk to people about ways that they could potentially be causing harm, i think oftentimes it's taken as some kind of attack. as some kind of "well i'm not transphobic so how dare you!!!" type thing when really,,, nobody said you were. what was said was "hey, this action causes indirect harm: here's how, here's the harm, here's what could be done instead"
you're so right! tom felton could absolutely be pro-trans. he could absolutely think that i deserve the right to exist freely.
but when he is are publicly, throughout his entire career, dismissing criticism of a transphobic billionaire who controls trans politics in the UK, and consistently continues to engage with her IP and continue to connect himself to it?
then dare i say,,, that's probably not fab and probably not cool and probably rather actually something that harms trans people via his public actions between millions of people, despite whatever he thinks in the privacy of his home between himself and his bedroom walls.
so despite this being an incredibly patronising ask, i hope this clears it up a bit! yes, it is bad to take a paying job with a bigot and say that the bigot can say bigoted things and to say that actually we should just separate the bigot feom the bigoted work and then profit said bigot who will use said money to fund bigotry.
whether he is openly pro-trans or openly transphobic, putting a job that will harm trans people over the livelihood of trans people is ,,, bad. and i don't think i need to grow up to,,, to see that that is bad. that is bad. i hope we can all agree,,, that's bad.
and also i do believe that in order to be pro-trans you need to,,, not conspire with and associate with and financially profit the most transphobic person in britain. hot take maybe idk.

Hi Marigold, 😁, I know atm you are busy with other projects, so I am not expecting this any time soon. When you get a moment, I would love you to consider the following prompts for Wolfstar: 3, 14, 25, 27 from the prompt list. So much angst in those lines 🫢👀
hey! I’m sorry this took so long! Hope it was worth the wait.
3, 14, 25, 27
“I know it hurts.”
“I made a mistake.”
“I’m scared.”
“Please stay with me.”
🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟
Remus is alone in the Shack. He sits on the small, ruined bed and looks at the scratches of claws gauged into the wood.
He made them - the wolf made them - the last time he transformed alone.
It’s been so many months since then. So many moon rises and moon sets with company that he’s forgotten what this was like. The waiting.
The Shack’s windows are bordered up. He can’t see the sky and can’t tell the time. Can’t tell how long is left except for the steady breaking of marrow deep inside his bones (the wolf getting ready, laying in wait, always close, always separated by nothing but the barrier of Remus’ own flesh).
He doesn’t have his wand. He never brings it. Moony could break it, he said when asked. It belongs to me, not to it, he didn’t add. I want nothing of mine contaminated by it.
He doesn’t bring his nice sweaters or his nice shoes. He wears an old beaten up shirt and jeans torn at the knees he’a long grown too tall for.
Today, he wears a shirt he stole from
the bed of someone who should be here. It’s black and has the face of Jim Morrison printed on the front. The person who should be here slept in it the previous night. It smells like him, still.
Remus is too tired to pretend that isn’t why he took it.
He’s not angry. Not anymore, and maybe he wasn’t in the first place. It’s not the person’s fault that someone could be dumb enough to go where he knows a werewolf would be.
But he knows the wolf near lost its mind at the smell. He’s too worried to let anyone close again.
The person is a contrarian. Remus knows this. Should have known.
The footsteps on the rickety stairs try to be soft.
“You’re wearing my shirt,” Sirius says before he says anything else.
“It’s soft,” Remus doesn’t lie but doesn’t tell the truth.
“You don’t even like The Doors.” Sirius stands in the sliver of light forcing itself through the cracks in the boards. He’s solid, real.
“I like some of their songs just fine.”
“You like been down so long because it resonates with your self-deprecation, not because you enjoy it.”
Remus doesn’t have an answer to that. He lets himself fall backwards on the bed.
“What are you doing here?” He asks. “I told you not to come.”
“And I told you I would anyway.” Sirius sits on the bed, next to the bend of Remus’ knees. “You might have convinced James with your talk of boundaries or whatever, but we both know that’s bullshit.”
Sirius, Remus knows, only swears if it’s about his mother or to make a point. To make it stick.
“I made a mistake,” Sirius adds, “a really fucking big one.”
“It’s not about that.”
“No?” He doesn’t look convinced. “Last month I sent someone to the Shack and this month we’re not allowed to spend the moon with you. I’m not stupid, Remus.”
A hand placed on Remus’ knee. Sturdy. Solid. Real.
“I know you’re not angry with me. I know you’re not angry with James. Peter, bless him, had nothing to do with it.”
“Peter turns into a rat. Moony would have him for a snack,” Remus scoffs.
“There it is.” The hand squeezes, like a victory, fingers strong on the achy tendons. “You’re scared.”
Remus is too tired. He turns on his side, away from the voice that sounds too self-satisfied and the hand that feels too soothing.
The dichotomy of Sirius - comfort wrapped in barbed wire.
“You think Moony has gone onto some kind of blood lust.”
“You don't know shit,” Remus lies. Remus is so tired of lying.
“You think that he smelled that dumb wanker, and now he’ll turn on us.” Sirius doesn’t let him deflect. A hand on Remus’ elbow, pulling him back. “You think Moony will turn on his own pack.”
They’re eye to eye now, Sirius above him.
“Prongs had to…”
“I know what James did. You had that hoof-shaped bruise on your arse for weeks.”
Remus tries to turn away. A hand on his neck. Solid, sturdy, real. Not pushing. Holding.
“Prongs has had to get rough with you plenty of times before. Do you know what Moony does? Mewls like a cat. Apologises. Licks his face.”
A hand in his hair. Holding.
“He’s just like you, when you let yourself be real. He’s you, Moony. Would you ever hurt me?”
Eyes, solid, silver, stern.
“Never.”
Sirius releases the grip but doesn’t move away.
The moon pulls at Remus’ navel. At the place where his brain connects to the stem of his spine.
“I’m scared,” Remus says. Thinks of the waiting. “Please stay with me.”
“You just have to ask,” Sirius says, leans forward, breath against Remus’ brow. They’ve never been this close before. “Anything you ask.”
Remus’ mind dissolves into pieces of itself and pieces of the other. He hears shouting or maybe howling or maybe he hears nothing at all. Only a whisper, I know it hurts, I’ve got you, I have you. I’m right here.
