one thing i love about moshang is that for however much shang qinghua's self image is that of a coward and a sellout just doing whatever he can to stay alive, in mobei-jun's eyes, sqh is literally the most powerful and most competent person mbj has ever met. he's the person mbj calls on when he truly needs support. and to his credit, shang qinghua has literally never failed him in that. sqh might think he's pathetic but as far as mobei-jun is concerned that's all apart of his head advisor's master disguise

AU where during one of his night hunts during his widow arc, Shen Qingqiu gets caught saving an innocent demon from Huan Hua’s wrath by trying to smuggle them back to the demon realm. (That particular demon was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.)

This triggers the whole trial debacle early, and gets Shen Qingqiu imprisoned and condemned by much of the cultivation world.

(Maybe they also got the help of a nasty truth serum or artifact that compels one to answer a certain number of questions truthfully, but disallows speech outside the bounds of the questioning. Naturally they pick the worst questions for Shen Qingqiu, causing him to admit to rescuing demons and harboring a part demon disciple.)

It’s only afterwards that Luo Binghe returns from the endless abyss and finds out what they’ve done to his Shizun for the ‘crime’ of sending demons who were present but clearly uninvolved in terrible events home.

Suddenly throwing him in the endless abyss to get him away from a massive demon invasion makes perfect sense!

Luo Binghe is determined to rescue his Shizun and tear the guilty sects apart for what they’ve done to him.
