What will happen if you have a nightmare around Caleb?

ˎˊ˗A short drabble Caleb x MC .☘︎ ݁˖ Fluff, comfort for nightmares, cuddles ꩜ .ᐟ wc 725 words It was like those nights when you couldn't fall asleep as quickly as you'd like. Deep down, you knew Caleb would be beside you all the time. When this happens, what will you do? Will you seek his warmth to make you feel his presence? Talk to him?

Day by day, sleep eludes you, the weight of a troubling dream pressing on your heart. The fire in Grandma's house, Caleb's unconscious form, the strange place, the impending supernova-all these elements, shared with him in another dream, haunt your waking hours.

Every time you managed to pull his hand towards you, you would wake up covered in sweat and gasping for breath, searching for Caleb and hoping whatever was in your dream would stay in your dream.

Was it all just a dream or…

You shook your head and dragged your feet towards Caleb's room at the end of the hall. The door was slightly ajar, and even though it was dark, you could see the light coming from inside the man's room. You slowly opened the door wider and found Caleb sleeping with a frown on his forehead.

Do these nightmares, these shared fears, plague him as they do you? Is his fear of losing you as potent as your fear of his disappearance? Do you, too, vanish in his dreams?

“... Caleb?” 

He didn't move at all, but your eyes could see his frown deepening and a small groan coming out of his mouth. You decided to come closer and sit on the edge of the bed. Rubbing his shoulder slowly so that he wouldn't be surprised.

Caleb mumbled louder, and his breathing became shallow. There was an urgency to wake him up, but Caleb woke up suddenly. His eyes were unfocused, making you come closer so he would notice you.

“Caleb… You alright?” 

You caressed his forehead, trying to get rid of the wrinkles there. Caleb took a deep breath and let it go slowly. His eyes looked more relaxed now; he enjoyed your touch. After a while, he opened his eyes again and looked at you in confusion. Seeing you sweaty, pale, and in his room was not a good sign

“Pipsqueak, is there something wrong? Why are you so pale?”

Caleb forced himself to sit up even though his breath was still clearly short. He was more worried about you being sick than his own body. Caleb brought his palm to touch your forehead.

“I… I had another nightmare.”

His face darkened. His leaving you back then hurt you deeply, and he knew it. It was his fault. But what could he do if everyone in the world wanted to hurt you? He had to become stronger to get rid of everyone who was a threat to you.

In the silence, Caleb shifted from his position. He patted the spot next to him, making room for you to lie down next to him. You scoot over and make yourself comfortable. 

“Do you want to tell me? It seems like tonight’s dream is different.”

You lay facing Caleb, staring into every curve of his face. Your hand reached out to caress the side of his face as if to make sure that Caleb in front of you was not just a dream. Something seeps right through your heart. Gut-wrenching feeling deep inside your heart exploding right the moment your tears slip out. 

“I saw you unconscious and every time I reached for you I would wake up.”

Caleb closed his eyes, letting himself savour every touch from your delicate hand. His hand touched your wrist. He didn't let you pull away. Instead, he pulled you into his embrace.

His eyes, unseen in the darkness, hold a solemn promise. His words, Like a protective charm, wrap around you. "I will eliminate anyone who dares to threaten us.”

You can't see it, but his eyes are dark. The words he utters are like a spell.

“I will get rid anyone who dares to stand in our way.”

Oh, you have no idea how serious Caleb just said that. But that's okay. As long as you can hear Caleb's breathing around you, you'll be fine.
