One of the weird things about American culture is the tendency to refer to things by brand name, as opposed to the product name.
For example, I’ve known people to say Kleenex when they meant tissue. I’ve heard people use Hoover instead of vacuum.
And it gets to a point with certain things that some people can’t distinguish the difference.
Weedwhacker is a brand. How many people know the real term is “string trimmer”? Jell-O is a brand. And it’s so pervasive that people call literally any gelatin dessert “jello” even if it’s not made by Jell-O. Tupperware! That’s a brand!
The one thing that constantly messes with my head, though:
DUMPSTER IS A BRAND.
AND I HAVE GENUINELY NO IDEA WHAT TO CALL A DUMPSTER OTHER THAN A DUMPSTER.

my initial thought was that the Red Room waited for the girls to settle because they need to know if they're fit for the job - like, even if they settle small, if their daemon is like a tiny mouse or something they'd be killed because that's not the type of girl they want as widows. and they definitely don't want a girl with a big ass daemon because they value lethal and discrete a whole lot more.
so i guess my inicial headcanon might still make sense, idk
i worked on the story for over a month, and only now, one day after posting it, i realized my daemon AU headcanon was fucking stupid
because if daemons existed on the MCU, the Red Room would do the intercision on the widow trainees before their daemons settled. this way, i'm pretty sure that with their bond broken their daemons would never settle and they could truly be the best spies ever, because they could pretend their daemons were any form they wanted
i'm so mad i only thought of this now 😤😤😤😤
