And you know what this intro is more iconic than anything anyone could hope to make today. I fear we reached carrying capacity of iconicness in like 2014 and now everything iconic has mostly been done and EVERYTHING the music industry is doing now is referential and people wanna be like “oh ___ was so iconic for this!!” No they were REFERENCING an icon and are riding on the coattails of their star power and hoping you will associate them with the artist being referenced because then half their work is done for them. They just wanna be famous in the same way more talented and groundbreaking individuals have been famous but you can’t be iconic unless you’re actually doing something new and different. If you take all your inspiration from one artist you will always be seen as inauthentic and consequentially mostly uninteresting. And this is what Baudrillard was TRYING to warn the pop girls about… the order of sorcery…. Relying on signs to communicate your identity as a new artist that were originally intended to reflect a version of your favorite pop star but now lack any tangible basis or meaning….. just so you can sell….. “do you like _____? You’ll LOVE my music! Hi I’m ____!” YOU ARE NOTHING!!! YOU ARE A VOID OF CAPITALISM!!! A WALKING AD!!! SIMULACRUM!!! HYPERREAL!!!!
