a/n. i really enjoy writing comfort fics, and knew i wanted to write one with Chiaki in it! i actually teared up at the end of sdr2 with Chiaki and Monomi’s speech to Hajime. i truly think she’s not appreciated enough, as I think a lot of people like to characterize her with two traits: sleepy and gamer. I hope you can come to love chiaki as much as I love her :] any interaction on this post would be very much appreciated!

ღ — CHIAKI NANAMI

Chiaki, despite not being a very outwardly emotional girlfriend, knows about being depressed and empathizes with your struggles. When she can’t complete a difficult level or defeat an important boss, her title as The Ultimate Gamer is thrown in her face and she goes through a limbo-like state until she clears whatever is stopping her. She doesn’t talk to anyone during those times, nor does she leave her room. Fortunately, though, it doesn’t happen very often, as she is able to beat most games 99% of the time.

Other times, when she sees friends laughing together or close-knit family bonding, she’ll feel an ache in her chest that she can’t describe. She’ll feel… off for the rest of the day. She doesn’t know why, but she knows the feeling.

In short, Chiaki is a calming voice in the midst of your chaos. She’ll always be by your side, reminding you to drink water or eat a snack if you can’t stomach full meals. She carries your favorite snacks in her backpack, and you both eat together when walking to school or between class periods. Chiaki will even visit your house to wake you up if you have trouble getting out of bed. Trust me, she knows how tempting it can be to lay there, but she needs her companion!

“Hey, [Name]… Wakey, wakey. It’s time to start the day. Hm….? Ah, your bed is comfy… But… Our friends are waiting for us. Do you want me to get you some water? … Okay. Then, try stretching for me while I do that. I won’t take long - promise.”

Throughout school, she’ll give you soft hugs and remind you to stay hydrated (it’s very important dear reader!) If she feels you’re on the verge of passing out or falling asleep, she’ll ask the teacher if she could use the restroom and promptly takes you with her. You both sit outside the school for some while and Chiaki tells you about her recent video game adventure. When you’re feeling anxious or depressed, the wind usually cools you down and grounds you. You are here, with Chiaki, and things will be okay.

“We should probably head back soon, or else everyone will get worried about us. …Of course they worry, [Name]. You’re apart of us, now. And hey… whenever you need a break, just tell me and I’ll see what I can do. I… love you, okay? Please don’t forget that.”

Chiaki, despite being your rock, also knows the importance of personal space. She understands if you need moments to yourself, as she is a very independent person herself, and definitely needs her private time with her games (but of course, you are allowed to stay). If you’re at home and would prefer to be alone, she’ll send you text messages throughout the day reminding you to eat or take your medication.

This is the Nyanami-Bot! I may not be human, but I know staying hydrated is important! Like flowers and plants, humans can’t grow without water, nyan!

This is the Nyanami-Bot! Stretching keeps the blood flowing to muscles throughout the day! Be like a bee and buzz buzz buzz!

This is the Nyanami-bot! Taking medication is one of the best things you can do for yourself. Eat a snack if you get nauseous, meow!

This is the Nyanami-bot! Your stomach might be in pain if it doesn’t have any food! Like a tamagotchi, you deserve to eat lots of good food, nya!

Have chores you dread doing? Need to make some phone calls? Can’t find the will to do anything? Chiaki Nanami is at your service - your personal AI assistant! Being the gamer that she is, she’ll turn any chore into a challenge, any boring activity into a entertaining game! Your challenges include: who can wash the most dishes, who can fold laundry the best, and who can sweep the floors the quickest! She shows you just how fun any activity can be when you’re with friends!

Chiaki, being the calm person that she is, also helps you de-escalate feelings of panic or paranoia. If you’re sobbing or having a mental breakdown, she’s next to you, guiding you through breathing properly and whispering reassurances that you are safe. If you’re okay with touch, she’ll let you count her fingers, feel the wool on her backpack, and play with strands of her hair - anything to ground you and remind you you are safe. She’ll even let you wear her sweater (and blushes by how cute you look in it!)

If you have insomnia or restless nights, she’ll rest with you and talk about your interests! While she’s not a very good conversational partner, she can talk about her hobbies (and soon yours) and other interesting topics for hours. She likes learning new things about you everyday, and because she spends her nights gaming (which you should probably talk to her about), she’s up for gaming nights or sleepovers! She brings her Nintendo Switch, 3DS, Gameboy Color, PSV - anything and everything, and you all rotate games if you start to get bored. She lets you take the lead, which means she really cares for you (not just anyone upsets her gaming schedule!)

Of course, her go-to game is Animal Crossing, because she appreciates calm games that comfort you when other games can’t. She plants rare flowers and builds a garden resort for you both to wonder around in. She mails you expensive items she crafted and lets you break her rocks (you’re basically married at this point). Also - very intricate, pretty messages! Her handwriting is messy, but she puts a lot of effort in writing a message on your town board and drawing your favorite villagers on it, with a message that reads: To my player two - I love you! She also mails you letters of her favorite video game quotes that encourage her to keep moving forward. She hopes it’ll encourage you also.

“Hey, it’s okay. You can get through tonight. Because… I believe in you. And I’m so proud of you. So… please believe in yourself, too. If not for yourself, then for me, okay?”

June 2023 vs. April 2024

Lotte is the pretty one who got me into selfshipping. And I thank her for that very much. She and Protoman got me through the summer of '23 pretty easily.

I was introduced to Cady when I was on a cruise vacation (which I am still on as of writing) and they played the recent Mean Girls movie as a special event. I fell for her pretty easily. Her and Janis as well. I love all of her interpretations, but I like the 2024 one the best.
