Blur- Go Out
Unexpected and great new single from Blur plus a surprise album due in April.
It was only a couple of weeks ago that Jamie Hewlett was hinting at a Gorillaz reunion and many people thought that is what Damon Albarn was concentrating on at the moment. Maybe Hewlett was collaborating on a ploy to catch everybody off guard when they came out with the new song "Go Out".
It should come as no surprise, though, as there were a lot of rumours swirling about the last couple of years and Albarn seems to be one of the hardest working artists in music today doing many projects at the same time.
The new album is titled Magic Whip and will be out April 28th.

Sufjan Stevens- No Shade In The Shadow Of The Cross
Sunday night chill with the latest from indie folk troubadour Sufjan Stevens.
Stevens' quirky songwriting is absent on"No Shade In The Shadow Of The Cross", although, he is at his best in creating a dark and reflective song in which we are allowed into his life while he deals with the death of his mother.
The track is taken from Stevens' new LP Carrie & Lowell, out March 31st.

Novella- Land Gone
London four piece Novella are poised to release their debut album in May, and "Land Gone" is the first piece of music they are sharing from the LP. The song is a shimmering bit of shoegaze with a motorik beat, and a monster of a guitar outro.
RIYL The Joy Formidable
The title of the new record is Land and it will be available May 12th.

El Perro Del Mar- Party
Tuneage Dreams
Saddest party in town.
Swedish indie pop singer/songwriter El Perro Del Mar has just released a reissue of her 2003 self titled album. Not sure if it will be available on vinyl, but if it is I'll buy it in a heart beat.

Modest Mouse- The Ground Walks, With Time In A Box
Modest Mouse have released a bunch of new songs in anticipation of their new album Strangers To Ourselves, and their fantastic single "Lampshades On Fire" is slowly making its way up the Alt Rock charts. However, the funky song they came out with this week' "The Ground Walks, With Time In A Box" is the funnest and by far my favourite from the new LP...so far.
Strangers To Ourselves is out March 17th.

METZ- Acetate
It's time to rock out with a new song from Toronto noise punk band METZ. "Acetate" is what you expect from these guys: blistering guitars, screaming vocals and an overall sound that should be played very loud.
METZ's new album is titled METZ II (album name inspired by fellow Torontonians Crystal Castles?) and will be released May 4th.

Them Are Us Too- Us Now
I always love it when younger people make music that is indebted to the sounds of the eighties. The 21 year old girls in Them Are Us Too do just that with reverb friendly music that has an obvious affinity to the Cocteau Twins.
"Us Now" is taken from Them Are Us Too's debut album Remain, out March 24th.

Braids- Miniskirt
Gone is the angelic dream pop, and new is Braids vocalist Raphaelle Standell singing about her frustration with a sexist society. "Miniskirt" is written from the point of view of a woman who is tired of sex obsessed, leering men, but with lyrics like “Liberated’s what you wanna call it. How about unfairly choked?”it's almost like she had disgraced CBC talk show host Jian Ghomeshi on her mind. Either way the song provides an important message about the two sets of rules of dressing between men and women.
"Miniskirt" is taken from the new Braids album Deep In The Iris, out April 28th.

Echo Lake- Dröm
"Dröm" is the second track to be featured off of Echo Lake's new album Era following the beautiful "Waves", and like that track it signals a new expansive sound for the band. The glistening eight minutes of haze that is "Dröm" is one of seven songs on the new LP, a record that will be stretched out to over forty five minutes of pure dream pop bliss.
Era is out March 2nd.

North Highlands- Shade
"Shade" is a new song from a band that does't exist anymore. North Highlands actually broke up last spring, but were making a new album at the time of the split. Rather then scrap the recording they decided to finish the LP and the result is a new self titled LP (out now).
It's too bad they are no more because "Shade" is an amazing indie pop track.

Cloud Castle Lake- Glacier
A little Sunday night chill with Irish band Cloud Castle Lake.
In previous posts about Cloud Castle Lake we compared them to Radiohead. The comparison doesn't stop with their newest single "Glacier", a song that sees singer Daniel McAuley replicate Thom Yorke's falsetto along with jumpy electronics that remind of Yorke's LP The Eraser.

Chromatics- Just Like You
Johnny Jewel had a busy autumn going through his back catalogue and giving a way a lot of odds and sods to his fans. Now it is time for him to focus on the future, and he is doing just that with the arrival of a new Chromatics song titled "Just Like You". The track is the first of a few that will previewed before he drops his new album Dear Tommy in March (TBA). Jewel plans to put out a song a week leading up to the new LP release and the first one is a free download. Go get it, it's good.....
