I still don't like Gerrard and I'm taking his so called "character development" with a grain of salt, but for that one moment when he yells "What's that moron doing? Stop that moron", I felt such a kinship. I laughed for the first time that episode because that is such a Gerrard thing to say and also...yeah he's right. That firefighter who turned on the hydrant had a moron moment. The water is contaminated with methane and you turn on a fire hydrant with contaminated water, what did he think was going to happen?
But on another note, I'm a little annoyed that they release stills of him and Buck talking but then cut that scene from the episode. Why post stills of scenes you cut? Now you've got people like me wanting to know what the hell happened? I mean, I can take a guess that Gerrard put his foot in his mouth trying to be a Bobby stand in and Buck spiraled as Eddie and Hen said, but I would've wanted to at least see that. Also, might just be me but I was not surprised Hen turned down being Captain. She is an excellent choice but she voiced the exact reasons I knew she'd choose not to do it. She is a hands on paramedic. As much as she has the skills to give orders and have people follow them because they trust and respect her, Hen and even Chim are very much hands on paramedics. It's a challenge to balance leadership with a role that requires jumping into the fray and physically doing the work. Hen struggled the last few times to separate captain and paramedic because as much as she is a natural born leader, it's her inclination to be the medical expert.
Back in season 2 when Taylor did the station interview he said something about Bobby being all things all at once, putting fires out all day: paperwork, delegating, dealing with the brass, scheduling, cooking for the team, giving advice etc. He was leader, father, mentor, and so much more. Which makes sense why Hen passed it up. She didn't want to be all things, all the time to 20+ firefighters. She wanted to be a teammate and a mom.
However, I think Gerrard saw at the end that Hen, Chim and Buck are capable of co-leadership. No matter who fills the role as Captain those 3 especially (and later Eddie if he officially returns) are Bobby's legacy, they know how he lead the team and are perfectly capable of carrying the station together, leaning on each other (which is what Buck wanted in the first place during his confession scene) and I think if they'd kept the Buck/Gerrard conversation we would have been provided context for the look on Gerrard's face while the trio came up with their plan. Still don't want Gerrard to be captain but I think he's seen for himself that 118 spirit.

What makes this whole situation worse is Buck's coma nightmare has literally come true. Eddie and Chris are gone and Bobby is dead. These are the two worst case scenarios in Buck's coma world and now it's in the waking world too. This sucks! TIM MINEAR YOU ARE THE WOOOOOOORRRRSSSTTT!!!!!!!

Evan Buckley actually called a U.S. Army Colonel useless and got in the face of an FBI agent. This guy has no fear and I love it!

So this is probably gonna get me yelled at, but I think I need to say it. Can we as a fandom just take a collective breath and take a step back from the hyper-intensity over this most recent few episodes of 9-1-1. I know it's a fast paced drama with amazing characters, a fantastic cast and we love it to pieces, but people are starting to take the show, the characters and the actors a little too seriously. Like, guy on the ledge who needs Brad Torrence to talk him down, kinda crazy. Breathe. Relax. I get it. Some of the storyline is problematic, the characters aren't doing what we want and the actors aren't behaving in ways we like but it's just a show and the actors are not responsible for our feelings. I love 9-1-1 and I love Buddie and I love the characters (most of the time) and I like the cast but the behavior on the internet is getting very intense and very scary right now.
First, the storyline: yes it sucks that Eddie is gone and Buck slept with a gargoyle who never really appreciated Buck while he had him and the Diaz parents suck and if anyone dies I will cry into a gallon of ice cream but one thing about writers that I've learned is that they are on their own effing program and they are not taking your calls and will not get back to you in 3-5 business days. This is Tim's world and we're just as stuck with it as the actors. Moreso, because at least he gives them a heads up and a courtesy "hey, you cool with this?" call. We can accept that things are happening at their own speed and hope for the best while preparing for the worst, or we can change the channel and start all over again with a different show (like I did with The Flash and Teen Wolf. Ugh! Bad writing everywhere).
Right now the storyline is Eddie in Texas, focusing in fixing things with Chris (as he should be). As much as I would love for him to miraculously open a portal back to LA to save the day with Buck and Athena, his number 1 priority needs to be his relationship with his son. We know that Ryan/Eddie will be back eventually so just hold onto that knowledge and let the rest go. I know it sucks to see him be sidelined so much but that is as much a schedule thing as it is a storytelling thing. Is Gavin even coming back to the show on a regular basis? That needs to be worked out so they can plan accordingly on how to incorporate him back into the show and figure out a way to bring the Diaz boys back to LA. I have faith the Diaz boys will return. We have a month, 2 months, left before the season ends. We will get through this.
With Buck and the whole Eddie/Tommy/Ravi business, like Ryan said in an interview, that is for Buck to work out on his own. Nobody knows what will happen except Tim. All the BTS videos and pics and "Will They/Won't They" is your typical carrot and string and a stick used to keep us on the edge of our seats and Tim is the one holding the damn stick. Stop getting mad at fictional people and the actors playing them for not spilling the Tea. They barely know more than we do and what they do know, they're under contract to keep their traps shut. They have PR and media reps who coach them about what they can and can't say and whether they want to push a storyline or pairing is such a thing they can't talk about. They get asked all the time and if you're seeing behavior that reads as stand-offish, annoyed, rude, disinterested, it's probably because they're tired of beating a dead horse. They don't know, they can't stay, they don't have any control over anything and what they want (short of a safe set, minimal chance of bodily harm, and trust with their scene partner so nothing bad happens) is not relevant. It sucks, but that's what it is. If Stark, Guzman or anyone else seems to not be supportive of Buddie anymore it's probably because they can't seem like they're baiting the audience, making false promises and avoiding being called liars, homophobes or anything else when what we want doesn't pan out. Fandoms can get very intense and protective of their favorite pairings and characters and the amount of ugly and negative comments they get on social media, I'd avoid social media too. Death threats? Seriously? What is wrong with people? This a job for them, they didn't write the story, they don't make the creative decisions. Leave the actors alone!
I'd love for Buddie to go Canon. I've shipped plenty of people who never went Canon and it's sad but it's not the end of the world. Do I think anyone else would realistically fit with either of them better than each other? No I do not, but that's because of 7 years of friendship so intimate that anyone new or even a former love interest or another friend becoming a love interest is just not plausible. It doesn't have the same emotional impact. Tommy, Ravi, Kim, Marisol, Ana, Taylor...whoever, none of them fit into Buck and Eddie's life in a way that says "I love this person and I know they love their best friend and a kid and a sister and a father figure and I might never be first, second or even third priority and I am secure enough in my love for them and theirs for me that I'm okay with it". It's just not possible. Not even if someone ends up dying. No one comes first and second in Buck and Eddie's life other than Chris and Buck or Eddie. Tommy had his shot, he screwed up. If he's so insecure that he screws up that many times and tries again, the only person he's hurting is himself. If Ravi is crazy enough to get involved after hours of Drunken Buck waxing poetic and composing sonnets about Eddie and his Silver Star, he's brave but out of his league. Also incredibly unrealistic.
As for the actors. Oliver and Ryan have been in the acting game since 2011/2012. Babies compared to Peter, Angela and Jennifer. I'll be honest, I didn't even know who Oliver was before 9-1-1. I'd (to my knowledge) never seen him in anything prior. When I looked up his filmography and saw he was in Underworld: Blood Wars, I had to go back and find clips because I did not remember seeing him at all. Hint: he plays a Lycan (werewolf) that repeatedly gets his ass kicked by Selene (Kate Beckinsale). I don't even know if his character survives the final fight, that's how small his part was. Ryan I knew of a bit more because of Pretty Little Liars and Step Up. He has more credits (more recognizable ones anyway) to his name and he does other projects while 9-1-1 is on hiatus. He has a life outside of the show. His not being as present when it comes to promoting the show is not a surprise to me. Especially when compared to Stark who does not really have any projects going on besides 9-1-1. The show is his biggest acting credit. It's earned him a lot of recognition, so of course he is so invested in promoting it, especially with episodes that he gets to flex his acting muscles as much as his literal ones. Being able to show his growth as an actor and for the character instead of just being eye candy, the reckless frat boy with good intentions. Both Stark and Buck have grown up together really. There are a lot of people who relate to the character of Buck and considering how much crap the character goes through, he tends to get a lot of love for his portrayal of that character. I don't know for sure if promoting is part of the contract or if he gets paid for it, but he has spoken about how grateful he is for the love of the character. I'd promote the hell out of him too considering the evolution Buck has gone through since season 1 and what that's done for Stark and his career. Pretty sure he said once that Buck wasn't even supposed to be a main character but people liked him so he stayed. If Buck hadn't worked out Stark would have quit acting. We wouldn't even have Buck then so maybe give the guy some grace. I don't think he's trying to be an asshole but the amount of pressure and social media harassment for something he has no control over is probably waring on him.
As for him promoting Anirudh and Ravi, the guy is also a newbie, relatively unknown and mostly in minor roles so this also is probably an opportunity to spread his wings. Oliver giving encouragement and hyping his performance is a kind thing to do for anyone in the business who does not have the Veteran status as Peter and Angela. Even JLH is getting a great opportunity to branch out and be funny, dramatic, tragic, flawed, a mom, a sister, a hero, victim, survivor, etc. She's showing more sides of her acting capacity than just strutting around in lingerie and a smile (the number of posts on here that I scroll past of her in her underwear is uncomfortable for me). Credit where credit is due and right now Oliver giving Anirudh credit for his performance is good, especially in a business like acting in a procedural drama when so many people are being cruel just for the hell of it.
I'm sure that Ryan will and does get credit for his own storylines and shining moments and for people to say Eddie's moments are outshined by Buck or even Chris are forgetting that Buck is his partner and Chris is his son. Those two own his heart and soul, he will fight to come home to his family, so of course they have a great deal of importance in his big moments. Eddie lives and breathes for the people he loves most, it's one of his defining features. If people are worried that he is a secondary character in his own story, remember that Ryan's recent interview said that the past 7 years in backstory in preparation for these upcoming episodes. I assume that means finally coming full circle and addressing the dead wife/doppelganger/elephant in the room as well as the Diaz parents and finally allowing Eddie and Chris to gain closure, set boundaries and come to an understanding that allows them to address and move on from the trauma, realize home is in LA with Buck and the 118 and leave the Purgatory aka El Paso behind for good. Patience folks. We're almost there. Ryan is not being sidelined, Eddie and Chris are not forgotten, they're just working things out while trauma is happening elsewhere.
Whether Ryan and Oliver are besties or not doesn't really have a whole lot of relevance unless it effects the quality of their performance and the writing of the storyline. I would imagine they get along well enough if they're both able to do interview and BTS together, if no one has talked about leaving, killing off the characters or outright saying "hell no" to Buddie. They might have other reasons for not interacting as much as the fandom wants them to, maybe they're trying to keep a low profile considering all the speculation both for Buddie and for the actors. Maybe there are those in the "Ryliver" fandom that are coming on too strong and they're being distant for propriety's sake. Some actors are uncomfortable with conclusions being drawn regarding their relationships or lack thereof with costars and prefer boundaries over speculation. Whatever the case, they're friendly enough that they can work together and not let it effect their performance on the job. Let them be. Just enjoy the show and the work the actors put into their performances. If you're a Buddie shipper, enjoy the ride, and hope our ship becomes Canon and no one dies. There's so much bad stuff in the world already, don't let it infect other people's enjoyment of a good show. The negativity ruins it for the rest of us.

I've seen a few people say they didn't like tonight's episode and didn't agree with the hype, but hold on a minute. Yeah Eddie was absent and it's a bit messed up that Buck, Athena and Bobby were absent for the gender reveal of Maddie and Chimney's baby but the episode still delivers in other places. Dramatic disaster, potential for NDE, big rescue in the wings. It's your typical 9-1-1 formula even if it's lacking or bungling in some areas. And I know there were people thinking Tim was gonna toss Buck together with Ravi for some random and bizarre reason but that didn't happen.
Buck, in typical Buck fashion was a supportive friend and coworker to Ravi after he made a mistake and almost lost someone. Know who has made mistakes and lost people, or at least was told he'd get someone killed? Buck. Evan "Buck" Buckley who has been told since he was a toddler that he was a screw up and would never learn from his mistakes. Buck, who knows what it's like to be the youngest, least experienced one on the team, who has made mistakes and lost victims and took it hard every single time. Buck, who takes those losses as a challenge to do better, try harder and learn from those mistakes. And yeah we didn't get Buddie scenes this time but Eddie was there in spirit because Buck told Ravi "no one else is quitting this month". He might not have Eddie, but he did not want to lose another friend and partner. Buck has learned to see Ravi as a different kind of friend and partner than Eddie. Eddie already had life experience and work experience that did not require Buck's guidance but Ravi, being a little less experienced needed the advice Buck had to offer. This was a growing point for Ravi and stressed what we knew from interviews, that Ravi is coming into himself as a firefighter, learning to be confident and take initiative, something Buck had to learn to do as well. This is not Buck and Ravi eventually becoming romantically involved. It's Buck learning how to make a friend that does not evolve into the levels of codependency that Buck and Eddie have. Buck becoming a mentor for someone, he finally has the life experience that Bobby told him he lacked in season 6 when he didn't pick him as interim captain. It's Ravi bringing his own skills and personality to the team. Not as a replacement for Eddie, but as another person on the team.
Next, I just want to say Oliver and Angela were fantastic. I love Oliver because he pushes the limits of emotional vulnerability and you get sucked in when he is doing the dramatic bits. The promo for 8x15 is insane. Oliver has really brought Buck's character arc full circle. From season 1's reckless, impulsive hothead who charged in with no plan, basically yelling "I do what I want" to calmly having Athena's back and still giving the proverbial finger to any authority that tries to stop him from saving his family. Buck started off as pure chaos but now he's methodical and calculating, controlled chaos. To see him and Athena who started out as enemies, work together to save the 118 while basically saying screw protocol is absolute gold. Especially when Athena is usually the one catching and preventing Buck from going off half cocked, breaking rules and ignoring authority.
I found it hilarious when the biolab director and the colonel tried to stop and even threatened them with jail because this is Athena Grant and Evan Buckley. Absolutely no one can out stubborn these two. They've broken rules, regulations and laws to protect their family and Buck got a medal for one of those times. Military jail is not going to stop them.
Ravi and his "come at me bro" to the colonel was just absolutely amazing. So much sass, if Eddie had been there he would be so proud. When the next episode airs and everyone makes it out, I imagine Buck will be bragging about Ravi sassing the military. "Our probie has grown up so fast, I'm so proud". This was a big episode for Ravi in a way. Maybe it wasn't some huge Ravi Begins episode, but for someone to go from absolutely devastated and considering quitting after nearly losing someone and saying he doesn't belong in the field to telling a colonel "if you want me come and get me", that's a pretty big character transformation. Maybe going forward Ravi will have more confidence.
I hope we will see Eddie in the second half of the contagion arc. Not quite sure how he would fit into it. Maybe there's a news report and this is what brings him back. Maybe Buck calls him. Idk, but I am looking forward to Eddie's return and Buck and Athena working together to save the team. When the two of them team up, it's always badass.

I know there's some panic about the new stills for 8x14 with Buck and Ravi hanging out again but people are forgetting a few things when it comes to Buck and Ravi:
1) Anirudh has said in an interview that he ships Buddie and that Ravi ships Buddie. The guy has an awareness of the direction of the fandom and probably is aware of the angry mob that would await him if he ever even hinted at pursuing a BuckRavi pairing. Also, I would hope Tim would not be that cruel as to put another friend/coworker in between Buck and Eddie. It didn't work with Lucy or Tommy and it'll just cause damage to Ravi's character. I happen to like Ravi and don't want him written off because fans turned their hatred onto him.
2) Ravi is both afraid of and annoyed by Buck, frequently. The man chased the poor guy around the firehouse with a chainsaw for puking during a call. Eddie might find that intensity endearing but Ravi most certainly doesn't. He also frequently pranks and teases Ravi in juvenile ways. Yes he is affectionate and encouraging, with the big bear hugs and giving Ravi props when he does something right but his behavior reads as big brotherly or an older cousin, someone to look up to but who will still annoy you to death just for fun. Nothing about their interactions reads as romantic or sexual.
3) The Eddie of it all: If Tommy who only dated Buck and was friends with Eddie for 6 months was able to see what a threat Eddie is to his relationship with Buck, what makes anyone think Ravi wouldn't think so too? Ravi spent an entire shift being called by someone else's name and then was dragged out and had to listen to Buck monolog for hours most likely about Eddie. If the first time Eddie left wasn't evidence enough of how obsessed with Eddie, Buck is than that right there would've been it. Tommy didn't want to compete with Eddie, why on Earth would Ravi? Doesn't matter if he's physically not there, Eddie takes up 80% of Buck's mental space. No one with any self respect would go into a relationship knowing that they will never be the number 1 priority in a person's life. Not sure why he thought throwing Tommy at Buck would work for more than a hook up but the guy was having a bad day so I can't blame him for running off.
4) Ravi and Buck are closest in age and experience at the 118 and Ravi is not particularly close to anyone else at the station. He's family, but he's not as dependent on the team, nor has he been present for many big disasters that bond the team. Buck's coma, the cruise, Hen's captaincy, Councilwoman Ortiz, Bobby's heart attack, Gerrard, the plane, etc. He's relatively unscathed compared to the others and trauma tends to bond these guys as much if not more than the good moments. The stills and BTS videos show a bus explosion and Ravi holding a victim's hand.
This might be his first big loss since his time in the Academy and maybe he needs a friend who doesn't have the obligations of a spouse or child. Buck is incredibly empathetic and tends to be the best at showing and reciprocating emotional vulnerability. He could be comforting Ravi after a loss. Buck tends to take his losses on the job personally, he bonds with the victims and sees his failures as a reason to do better, try harder, to fight for every life he saves. He was devastated after the roller-coaster and needed a listening ear and a shoulder and one thing Buck is good at is paying that forward. Talking to Ravi about loss, giving him praise when he does good and encouragement when he fails. He could also feel guilty about treating Ravi like an Eddie replacement and want to genuinely get to know Ravi as a person. Buck might be oblivious sometimes but when he gains perspective he is very good at fixing what he does wrong.
There are so many reasons Buck and Ravi can be hanging out and they don't have to be romantic or sexual. We still don't even know Ravi's sexual orientation. I don't think he's ever even mentioned his preference in partner. Let's try not to catastrophize just yet folks.

OOOHHH, if Buck is gonna be trying to make new friends and try new hobbies maybe we'll get photographer Buck as Canon. Oliver's real life photography hobby as part of Buck's character. That'd be cool.

My Life Would Suck Without You. The chorus fits perfectly.
As much as Eddie loves Chris/would do anything for him, I just can't see him happy in Texas, because let's face it: Eddie had Chris in Texas before moving to L.A. and he was miserable. Multiple jobs, toxic parents, no close personal relationships/partner to share the load and no Buck. Every time there is distance between him & Buck, Eddie is miserable. Fight clubs, panic attacks, temper tantrums. Chris will get a crash course in how life sucks for them both without Buck, Kelly Clarkson-style.
I agree. He’ll be MISERABLE with a capital M.
What song are you thinking of from Kelly? I love her as well.
I need Eddie Diaz HAPPY & JOYFUL in 2025. If that per chance includes Buck Buckley then so be it.

I'd like to think that Shannon and Buck would've gotten along, maybe even been friends. They both know what it's like to feel abandoned, to be told their not good enough by parents/parental figures, they love Chris and Eddie even if the latter is a complicated love, according to Eddie, Shannon was a bright, sunny, happy person with a wicked sense of humor who he could listen to for hours about anything and everything (sound familiar?), and Shannon also has a bit of an adventurous sexy side like Buck does. As friends, they probably would've laughed over Eddie's technophobia, comforted each other when their insecurities got the better of them, teamed up to rip Ana's ableist ass a new one, and played all sorts of practical jokes on Eddie and the 118. I think Shannon would've approved of Buck. I know a lot of fanfiction and some of the show writers kind of vilify her but for all her mistakes I don't believe she's truly a bad person. I think she was sad and alone and scared and she made mistakes but she was also really strong because she left a toxic situation before it could become worse for her, Eddie and Chris. Honestly, I blame Helena and Ramon for a lot of that mess. Those two are the worst.
As much as I dislike Kim & the whole Shannon thing just needs to R.I.P. already, I've always wondered what it would've been like if Buck and Shannon had ever had a real conversation. If he'd talked to her when she was still alive, or shown up in his coma dream/some other NDE (the kidnapping?). What would that look like? A lot of Shannon bashing fics paint her as a jealous psycho but I think they'd have a lot in common. If he'd confronted Kim, how would it look? What would he say to her?
I think that’s what a lot of us would have liked to see, if even just a little bit. We could have had seen that Buck and Shannon actually had some things in common… ahem Eddie & Chris. I do wonder what they would have talked about though. Maybe Eddie mostly. But we’ll never know unless they bring her back to be in a Buck (NDE).

I think I made a comment about that on someone else's post. First serious relationship (with a guy), who left with some bullshit non-apology excuse like Abby, couldn't handle the firefam drama/NDE like Ali, wanted Buck for sex/personal reasons but couldn't handle the family dynamic/all of Buck's quirks like Taylor, thought Buck was "a lot" and only interested in a part of Buck but not the whole package like Natalia. That's Tommy in a nutshell.
I saw this theory that Tommy was a mix of every relationship Buck had and tbh I believe it because clearly Tommy is the worst but so is everyone he dated so it make sense that’s why Eddie Diaz it’s perfect for him
I’ve seen that as well recently. It does make perfect sense.

And that is really saying something when Abby left him at the airport and ghosted him for 3(?) months, couldn't even be bothered to break up with him and then showed back up with a fiance, stepdaughter and a weakass non-apology that borderline blamed him as the reason she didn't come back. Then Ali, who dumped him not even a week (the same day?) after coming home from the hospital after getting his leg crushed by a firetruck and leaving him alone to take care of himself in a loft apartment she picked out for him. Taylor who is all kinds of unethical, selfish, backstabbing, and narcissistic, who pretty much emotionally and verbally abused him, and used him for sex and to further her career and nearly got 2 of Buck's family killed. And of course Natalia who was a death obsessed freak. Buck really has the absolute worst romantic partners, but yeah Tommy just might take the cake. He's a male version of all 4 ex-girlfriends past: older partner who awakens something in Buck only to leave and put the responsibility for that on Buck. Can't handle Buck's family dynamic/all the NDE he and the firefam go through, uses Buck for his own gain i.e. wanting an in with the 118/Eddie's friendship, and more interested in a part of Buck and not the whole package/Can't handle that Buck is "a lot"/his past. And then there are just all the other personal reasons Tommy is the worst.
Tommy is the worst partner Buck ever had. Imagine your partner forcing you to come out to your friends and family or else they'll dump you and then it turns out they weren't even planning on sticking around long term anyways.
I can’t even imagine that. I so glad Buck got out of that HORRIBLE relationship (if you can even call it that).

It's because it's very similar in pronunciation to masterbator. As in masterbation. A very juvenile innuendo but there it is.
Hi, maybe I am old or it is because English is not my first language. But why is master baker considered an innuendo? What am I missing here? Thanks.
I really hope and believe this is the last time you had to change your user name.
I wish I knew. Hopefully someone else has better knowledge about this.
P.S. I hope so too. I really don’t want to change it again.

There's a series of YouTube videos about the persistence of couch theory in season 8. It's mostly just someone's thoughts and reactions about Eddie's couch being Buck's safe place and how the one time we see Tommy on it, a week later Buck gets dumped but it's an entertaining series on couch theory by buckleyplease.
If Buck and Eddie’s first kiss happens while they’re sitting on Eddie’s couch one day, the internet is gonna explode 😜

I know they were both at the medal ceremony but the last time I remember them actually interacting on screen was Christmas after the lawsuit. You would think, given their parents friendship that they would be friends and keeping in touch but we haven't seen any of that on screen. It would be great to have more Denny and Chris friendship/communication because it feels like Chris is icing everyone out, not just Eddie and that would such especially if something bad happens to Buck and Maddie in 8B. If Chris is keeping up on the 118 firefam through Denny or Buck or someone, maybe he'll get over his beef with his dad and come home faster. Fingers crossed on that front.
Hen tells Karen about Eddie moving to El Paso and how worried she is about Buck.
Denny overhears his mom's talking about Eddie leaving and contacts Christopher through their DM asking him how he feels about his dad moving to El Paso
Christopher contacts his dad, asking him why he is moving there? When he wanted to come home to spend Christmas with him and Buck.
"What about Buck? We can't be like everyone else who has abandoned him. Buck is a part of our family. I need you to talk to me before making decisions like this. Now I expect you and Buck to be together when you come pick me up. It has been seven years, dad, and you two should be married by now."

I didn’t until you brought it up. Thanks.
