ghosts is excellent, but even though the comedy, the incredible acting, the chemistry between the cast and the concept itself all are fantastic, the best part, the unparalleled dramatic irony is that
bruh why does no one call the captain by his name?? like not even his last name?? that makes me so sad man like imagine not having been called your name for like 80 years? idk just makes me sad :(
okay i am well aware that maybe three people on this site and possibly their pets care about BBC Ghosts but just know that i very nearly started ugly sobbing at the title sequence because
Putting my drawing on here in hopes of reaching some more BBC Ghosts fans!!!! I’m an instagram fan account atm but I do wanna see what the tumblr fandom is like so… !!
Pat, Mary, and The Captain getting really into the filming of the Lord Byron show was the cutest fucking shit.
Buuuut also kind of sad because you can see through the way Pat interacts with Mary that he misses being able to teach people who don’t know a lot about the world but are very excited by it (he rolls with Mary calling the camera a “cow” because little children do the same thing—like if a little kid knows that a cow is a four legged animal, they will make the mistake of calling every four legged animal they see a “cow” because that’s what they know and that makes sense to them). Mary’s excitement about filming and smart comments about how shots should be framed make me think she’d thrive in that kind of environment and it makes me sad that she’ll never get to do it for real. And The Captain obviously had a huge crush on Adam, which is sad all by itself, but I think it was also clear to me that he liked the order and strict rules of filming and he was drawn to Adam because he was a commanding authority figure; it’s clear to me generally that The Captain misses the military.
ben willbond carries with him a strong disaster gay energy both on screen and off - in fact every role he has ever played is, in its essence, a repressed gay. do you fools, you ignorant bufFOONS expect me to believe the thick of it’s adam kenyon is straight???? do not come near me with those Insipid Opinions. that man is full of chaotic bi energy and you all know it! do you take me for a bumbling halfwit???? are you trying to tell me, a logical, sane person that king phillip the II of spain as portrayed by benjamin thomas willbond has never looked at another man and gone “yes please”. BLOCKED. during this essay i will
Things about BBC Ghosts I think about to commit sad:
- Alison has no living relatives. She’s the last in her family, since she inherited the house when Heather died, not her parents, for example. Mike’s her only family.
- Mary isn’t a witch. She fears witchcraft and Satan and clearly doesn’t get involved in the occult. So her being burnt as a witch was either some mistake (wrong place at the wrong time) or someone who had a grudge accusing her of witchcraft out of spite (jealous neighbour? Did she dare reject a guy and he threw a tantrum and had her burnt?)
- Just the whole fact that the Captain is gay, whether he’s still in the closet or even aware of his feelings, the fact is he was a gay man who lived through the first half of the 20th century
