I read some AN yesterday that explained that the author didn't believe Wei Wuxian was in love with Lan Wangji before he died, in fact, that he probably didn't even really like him, maybe a small crush if that, and...

I have to agree.

They explained it so much better, but Wei Wuxian certainly didn't care about Lan Wangji as much as Lan Wangji cared about him before he died.

I can clearly remember thinking when I first started reading the book "Does he even like him?" even while fully knowing the ending at the time.

Without rose tented glasses, Novel Wei Wuxian certainly wasn't as obsessed with Lan Wangji as many people like to believe.

It's fun to imagine Wei Wuxian falling in love at first sight but let's be real, that boy had So Much going on that even if he did get a crush on Lan Wangji, it probably wouldn't go anywhere. He had more important things to care about than an uptight Lan who was always glaring at him and criticizing his playfulness and use of resentful energy.

Not to mention that Lan Wangji didn't react the best before his death, so his interactions with Wei Wuxian were always pretty tense, bar a few interactions.

We know it was because of Love and Concern but Wei Wuxian didn't. All he saw was someone else telling him what to do and getting angry when he didn't listen.

Sure Lan Wangji was great with A-Yuan but that doesn't suddenly make all of their other interactions Roses and Sunshine.

Which makes Adult Lan Wangji, going out of his way, to show, to prove, to Wei Wuxian that he does in fact care about him, so much more meaningful to me.

Even if Wei Wuxian didn't love him back, Lan Wangji wasn't going to let anyone tell him he can't care about/love Wei Wuxian, doesn't hide the fact that he does. He learned from his mistakes and as soon as he got a second chance, he took it, no hesitation, and he got the man of his dreams.

He lived, he learned, and he loved.

And that's beautiful to me.
