after the appropriate grieving period, they should bring back the silly romcom elements for bucktommy in s9. next season's flavor of miscommunication should be buck being under the impression that they're slowly but surely working towards getting back together (tacit agreement after multiple romantically and sexually-charged hangouts) meanwhile tommy is fighting for his life trying to move on so he can be the "friend" buck needs during these trying times. sure, lines are objectively blurry but that's to be expected: they have history and buck is a playful, tactile guy — of course he sits close and teases and flirts. it all comes to a head when buck publicly accuses tommy of cheating bc ravi (always at the scene of the crime) sends him a picture of tommy in flagrante delicto (on a lackluster date with some guy)

I saw this post and it made me think that the only explanation for Buck not buying a gift for their anniversary, but being so sweet remembering the date and taking the initiative to pay for dinner, was that he probably thought "well, 6 months together, wow!, but I have to be chill, Tommy might not even remember the date or might not think it's a big deal... So a gift might be a bit too much, but how about dinner at the restaurant he loves? That will be nice."

but then Tommy surprised him because not only did he remember their 6 months anniversary, but he also considered it a special date and bought a gift that they could both enjoy together.
