The reason why Rick seems to be walking on eggshells around Amica, especially right when they reunited, is because Amica knows his old self (avoiding "Prison of Plastic" spoilers for the sake of our mutuals). He's genuinely happy that such an old friendship thread has remained unbroken for so long (though at first he could've sworn she left him too)! But Amica is also pretty much the last remaining piece of his faraway past that is still around, and not just around, but right here next to him, seeking his company.
She knows the old Rick, from when he was a child, and this brings up memories, both in him and in her. And Rick is afraid of that. Rick is afraid, because he stopped being his old self for a reason, and that reason is self-preservation. The new, current Rick, is more resilient, more unfeeling and thus less vulnerable to (emotional) pain. But seeing Amica, who tries to find her old friend in his eyes, could make the old, softer Rick resurface.
That's why Rick is very insistent on starting his and Amica's friendship anew, at least "on paper", so to speak. He still wants to have a friend, and especially such a loyal one, but it comes with these... contradicting difficulties.

New ref sheet/intro for Iris!
Iris(yuusona) | 19 | 1-A | Aug 13(Leo). She’s in the Gargoyle research club.
Quiet, serious, and hardworking, she is slowly getting used to living in Twisted Wonderland while dealing with overblotting high schoolers, NRC's exams and assignments(and the fact that she has to go to high school again), Grim, and the constant shortage of money.
She likes mushrooms, crocodiles, books, and techno/EDM & hyperpop—any music as long as it’s loud and upbeat so she could stay awake doing homework or drawing in her free time(3 am).
She dislikes overly sweet desserts(like chocolate cake), loud noises, and physical touch.
Her special skill is Tremendous amounts of Trivia. She knows a lot. 2/3 of what she knows is useless but interesting, and 1/3 of it is…questionable stuff.
She isn't sensitive to the heat and wears her cardigan almost all the time. It’s her most expensive clothing, Kalim gave it to her in Book 4. She was able to survive the Winter thanks to him.
When she's not in the Ramshackle dorm she's in the library, reading. She always sits funny while and her posture is terrible. Fortunately her hearing is good enough to avoid Riddle before he notices her and gives her an earful to fix her posture.
Sometimes she’s talkative and enthusiastic. She can also be really loud.
She was an animation student in her home world. She doesn’t talk about her past life a lot, so the students just assume she studied history or English for some reason.

That's "Fantasy Patrol" (or "Сказочный Патруль") 😊 😊
Tumblr media
— This has to stop now! Whatever it is that you're going through We'll fix it together, me and you, Just like we've always done-! — No! This has to stop now! This thing where you think that you've been my friend, And don't even hear how you condescend, The way you've always done!
Tumblr media
This is for our little AU where, after the crystal's destruction, Aster ends up absorbing all the dark magic that was consealed inside. He's more powerful, but he's also VERY bitter that his whole plan of becoming a hero liked by all went up in flames. Rufina here is trying to reason with her friend, but it's going to be tough -- he sees Rufina as yet another person who has left him. But that's only half-true.
(the lyrics are from Tangled the Series's "Crossing the Line")

📜 Aster's canon lore
Tumblr media
This is a big post explaining Aster's history and relation to the plot of the show he’s from (as we have not yet found a way to watch it in english), mixed with our commentary and how we felt about each new episode.
Have fun reading! ^^ ^^
Aster is a character from "Fantasy Patrol" (2016 — …) — a russian animated children's show by Parovoz Studio about fairytale characters (or simply “fairytales”) living among humans and a team of magical girls helping them and saving the world. In season 3 the main characters go to the Magical College. It’s a place where all fairytale children learn magic and history of the fairytale folk.
Episode 2 — Fisrt impressions
The girls arrive to the College in season 3 episode 2, where we first meet Aster — a lanky, awkward and clumsy young man. He is one of the people welcoming our main cast to the College, and he explains that he’s a graduate student and apprentice of professor Stargazer — an old and short anthropomorfic frog-wizard. One of the brat students orders Aster to take the main cast’s luggage to their rooms, which he does (Why, dude??? You’re letting a kid boss you around???), and we don’t see him again until the end of the episode. Alyonka/Helena, one of the main cast, ran away to the College’s library to cry alone, because she felt like a disappointment. She wented out loud and suddenly heard someone’s voice comforting her and sympathizing with her. Helena then finds the owner of the voice under a huge pile of books — it was, of course, Aster, who has been lying there, apparently, FOR 2-3 HOURS. Because HE FORGOT HE CAN USE MAGIC TO GET OUT. And he said it happens to him OFTEN??? Anyway, Helena then helps Aster find all the books from his list because his glasses broke and he can’t see very well. And when Helena gets a pass on the exam from professor Krivozub (a very strict teacher), Aster gives her a thums up. What a nice guy! Weird, but nice!
Episode 4 — Fisrt impressions continue to set
Aster then has a minor appearance in episode 4, where he is still the same bumbling scaredy cat who is doing a lot of chores. At the end, he helps the main cast again by finding the righ spellscroll, since he’s pretty familiar with the archives of the Magical College. Once again, this episode establishes him as a loveable idiot who sometimes can be competent with his knowledge.
Episodes 5-6 — Reveal-ish
Tumblr media
(Colour script by the amazing Irina Pevneva)
In the next episode we see an ominous-looking cloaked figure (who is clearly Aster in disguise!) effortlessly steal the most heavely-guarded and powerful artifact (a magical scroll) in the entire College, not without accidentally leaving a clue… Oh, a false clue. Never mind, he got away with it, somehow. We see Aster again in the very next scene as a substitute teacher, and not a very good one (he let all the students escape his class when he wasn’t looking… bro…).
Then, in the next episode we get a confirmation that YES, THIS WAS ASTER who stole the artifact. Aster successfully creates a copy of it, and he jumps in excitement like a puppy, then calms down and turns ominous again. THEN he turns his professor into a monster by slipping some potion into his tea, and when other students (and one teacher) defeat him they find the false scroll and the teachers finally calm down, thinking they have the right one. Meanwhile Aster hides the real scroll inside his typewriter in his tower.
Episodes 7, 10 — Forget about what just happened
In these episodes Aster makes minor appearances as his goofy adorkable self, but with a twinge of suspicion, though it can be shrugged off as just his normal awkwardness, and it is!
In episode 7 the girls are having their first flightball competiton and Helena, being new at this, does not want to let her team down, so she sneaks into the library to find some artifact that can help her play better. While she’s searching, Helena noices Aster sneak in as well. She startles him and he confesses that he was about to return the ring of strenght, which he took without permission to complete professor Stargazer’s chores. He begs her not to tell on him, and she doesn’t, eyeing the ring. Aster thanks her and quickly leaves.
In episode 10, Aster is first seen out of the window of his tower. He is stacking a lot of stuff in his hands (one of which is “anti-stammering water” XD XD) and accidentally pushes a bottle of fairydust out the window, which turns our protagonists into fairies. Aster assumes he already put the bottle away and goes on his merry way. We next see him tending to the College’s garden of magical fruits. After falling off a ladder and breaking his glasses for the umpteenth time he mistakes two of the girls for pests and tries to take them down with a water sprinkler, but they manage to spray him with water instead and get away. So here s more of an accidental antagonist than anything.
The rest of the season — Evil magic and shenanigans
In the rest of the season up until the finale Aster is only seen very briefly and only in a handful of episodes. What he regularly does is take a magical feather and erase a signature from the scroll, sometimes a couple of them. This turns the author of the signature — one of the magical creatures we’ve met throughout the show — into an evil version of themselves. The main cast turns them back by reminding them of things they love (not after some fighting, of course). What's interesting is that Aster does show worry for the girls’ safety (not because he’s kinda stalking them…), but still continues with his escapade. We don't know why he's doing this. After the fairytale character turns back to their nice self, a couple of dark-magic sparkles fly out of them and to Aster’s tower, where he contains them in some sort of crystal that slowly turns darker with each sparkle consumed. And the darker the crystal, the more excited Aster is to complete his mysterious goal.
So. What’s the deal with this scroll? Well, we find out that long ago, fairytale characters were divided into light and dark: the light fairytales were a force of good, while the dark fairytales were a force of evil. But after years of fighting the dark fairytales decided to live peacefully with the light fairytales, and many of them signed this magical scroll to trap their dark powers inside. Since then, all the fairytale folk lived united. So, by erasing the signatures in this scroll, Aster makes the dark powers go back to their respective owners and makes them evil again. When the protagonists turn them back, the dark powers get kicked out and go back to where the scroll was, but now get consumed by the crystal instead. Keep in mind that Aster is still doing all of this in secret and has not been suspected!
We also see sides of his personality that he usually doesn't show. Mainly, when he is alone, Aster allows himself to get annoyed or even angry when something doesn't go his way. Of course, he's still mostly the same pathetic self, which is a huge part of the reason why we love his character. Aster doesn't become a completely different person, he just shows a hidden side of him, and because only us, the viewers, know of his secret schemes and are being shown them regularly, we can't help but root for the guy. At least, that's how we felt, haha 😅😅
Near the end of the season, Aster starts paying close attention to Corvin — one of the students who we’ve seen throughout the season. Why? Because, despide his closed-off nature, Corvin is a VERY powerful dark fairytale, a descendant of the Ravens, who were the first dark fairytales that quit the war, pursuing knowledge instead of power. With that said, it's never said if they signed their evil powers away or not. Regardless, Corbin still shows some scary abilities. And Aster is planning to use him for his big plan.
Also near the end of the season, the professors realise that the scroll they found was fake, so Aster has to deal with their investigation as well. Not that any of them suspect him, because how can this clumsy grad student be a culprit? Aster is always nervous, so no one thinks it’s because he’s a thief. But they were getting dangerously close to finding out where the scroll is kept, which would lead them right to Aster. Fortunately, Aster used his clumsy “persona” to his advantage and broke the magical artifact that was supposed to lead the professors to the real scroll. And none of them suspected a thing.
The grad student then finally finishes charging up his crystal, and it’s time for the big show.
“Morok’s boast song” (cameo)
Tumblr media
For context: “Fantasy Patrol” has a couple of spin-off shows, one of which is “Musical Patrol”, with each episode being essentially a music video starring various characters from the show. It’s mostly just silly, there’s always a little story as to why they sing this song, but nothing too lore-heavy. Sometimes though, there are little glimpses into the character’s personalities.
In “Morok’s boast song” the main character and the singer is, of course, Morok (aka Vlad), who is a reformed (?) villain trapped forever in a much younger body, but we have Aster appearing throught the song in the background doing stuff with other characters. Nothing special, that already happened on this show, but what sets this episode apart is that Aster gets a spotlight at the end, after the song is finished. When Morok/Vlad is done praising himself, we see that Aster is genuenly in awe, unlike most of the others. So Morok tells him that with proper training he too can become a cool hero type. Morok gives him his sword to try, and promptly regrets it. Because Aster, barely holding the heavy sword in his frail hands, starts weakely waving it around and singing REALLY BAD. Pretty much everyone in the room leaves. After Asters falls over (naturally), Morok reluctantly tells the grad student that he can train (cough-even a weakling like-cough) him to become a great hero, to which Aster replies with an excited “Really?! 🤩”, and the episode ends.
Why do we bring this up? And right before the season finale? Well, first of all, because “Morok’s boast song” premiered before the finale. And second of all, by this point people in the fandom were making different theories as to why Aster is doing something clearly malicious. And for us specifically this one spin-off episode answered the question. But more on that later. Let’s get into the big finale already!
Episode 25 — “The Black Raven” (the big finale)
Tumblr media
On the day when the principal of the Magical College conviniently has to leave to attend a wizarding expo, and the final game of flightball among students is taking place, Aster decides to take action. He puts on the crystal which he earlier made into an amulet, and starts controlling some of the students, whilst hiding. First, he makes two of the typical “bully” students argue with each other by making them shoot out attacking spells. They, of course, have no idea what’s gotten into them. Their spells end up incapacitating the only adult supervising this competition (???), and then Corvin shows up, because Aster sent him a fake letter (as if from his friend Masha, one of the main characters) that teleports the boy right in the middle of the arena, with the Magical Scroll stuck to his hand. The young boy manages to get the scroll out of his hand, throwing it on the ground.
So, now there’s three very confused (and scared) kids in the arena and a large crowd of other very confused and scared kids in the seats around it. Aster, after helping some of the audience members a bit (they didn’t get hurt, fortunately), starts loudly antagonizing the three students because they’re “dark fairytales”, and because “they attacked the audience of light fairytales out of nowhere”, thus breaking the peace conditions of the Scroll. And it works??? The crowd then enrages at the students, as Aster starts to control Corvin, shooting destructive dark beams around. The boy notices it (along with the main cast), but Aster simply reasons “No, I’m not controlling you! I’m simply showing everyone what to expect from dark fairytales!”.
Eventually, Corvin himself becomes enraged, losing control of his dark powers (as was shown to be a problem of his in the earlier episodes), the boy grows his large raven wings and flies up, the skies grow dark and clouded. This was exactly what Aster wanted — to agitate Corvin enough for him to fight back, proving the grad student “right”, that all dark fairytales are still evil to their cores. Corvin then, with a powerful wave from the flap of his wings throws Aster into a wall, and the young man gets seemingly crushed by the debris. The crowd is now antagonizing Corvin even more, screaming “What have you done?!”. But as quickly as that happened, bright light started shining from beneath the rubble, and lo and behold — Aster used the magic of the crystal to transform himself into a glorious white mage and the flightball staff into his own magic staff with the crystal at the head. He declares himself a hero and the crowd cheers, not fully realising that they’re cheering for the real bad guy here.
Tumblr media
After this, the fight continues on more equal terms — Aster can now fly as well thanks to his magical upgrade. And he’s not just playing pretend anymore, Aster is actually trying to hit that little boy to “be the hero”. And he believes it too!
So the guys continue their battle high up in the sky. The main cast transforms into their magical selves to help. They create a way for Masha to reach the boys and talk to them. She tries to talk them both (mostly Corvin) out of all this, to calm them down, but Aster refuses to listen, talking about how the “evil dark fairytales” must be defeated. He fires a blast of light that ricochetes off of Corvin’s wing and right into the flimsy magic-made column Masha was standing on, and she falls. Aster seems completely unbothered by this, but Corvin dives in to save his (probably only) friend, to which the white wizard is like “Hey, where ya going? :0”, HE'S SAVING HIS FRIEND, IDIOT.
Anyway, Corvin successfully catches Masha and they both land unharmed. Corvin immediately calms down, his large wings disappear and the sky is clear once again. The crowd now cheers for him, seeing his good nature on display and proven wrong, but then Aster also comes down, still floating above the ground a bit.
“Hey, you, uhh… Come back right now! W-we aren't finished!”, he orders, still trying to sound intimidating.
“We are finished”, Corvin replies confidently, but none of his previous anger is left.
With that, the boy and Masha just… leave.
Tumblr media
Aster lands and follows the boy, pleading: “B-but wait! We have to finish the battle properly! Please understand, I have to save the light fairytales! Where are you going?!“.
But Corvin refuses, straight up ignoring the “white mage”. Aster's confusion is replaced with… irritation and anger. And that makes him spill the beans.
“Do you think it was all easy to stage, huh?! To steal the Magical Scroll?! To gather the powers of the dark fairytales?! “, he screams at Corvin right in the face, and for everyone to hear. Gasp! So that's where his powers came from! Aster is a thief!
Still, Corvin just can't be persuaded to fight again. “I already told you, I will not fight”, he says, going to leave, finally. Aster is puzzled once again.
“Well, if that's the case, then… the fight is over! “, he screams as he directs his charging staff at Corvin’s back as a desperate attempt to win in a game he fabricated.
But as the girls scream for the young boy to watch out, Aster's blast is quickly stopped by another. His staff's crystal — it's main source of power, — is now shattered to pieces, to the white mage’s shock. Turns out it was the principal, Vasilisa Vasiliyevna, who returned via a magic portal. It appears the wizarding expo she went to got postponed to a later date (conveniently). Aster's glorious magical form slowly dissipates (to his horror) and he goes back to his usual outfit. The dark magic that used to fill the crystal floats back to the scroll that's been lying on the ground this whole time.
He falls to his knees before the principal, pleading: “I-I just wanted for the good to win! I was thinking of all the light fairytales!”. To which she sternly replies, that he now will have a lot of time to think some more.
With that, the crowd cheers once more, as Aster is lead away from the arena to be locked up under arrest for an unknown amount of time.
The End.
“The Villain’s Fiasco”, aka The Backstory™
Tumblr media
Luckily for us, “Fantasy Patrol” has another spin-off, more important than the other musical one, called “Fantasy Patrol: The Chronicles of Wonders”. This spin-off dives into the backstories and lore of the many characters we meet throughout the show, and it does so in the form of a motion comic, which we find really charming. Sometimes the show focuses on the characters that no one cares about, other times it finally gives the viewers the answers they needed when the original show simply didn't have enough time to do it. And after much time from the season 3 finale, we got what we've been waiting for — the Aster episode.
(O: I'll probably make subtitles for it later, since it is up on YouTube for everyone to watch)
The episode starts with the main cast finding out that Aster, while still in Magic Jail™😢, wrote an entire book titled “Why you shouldn't become a Villain”. (Apparently s been published and now the most strict teacher is making the students read it because “They could learn something useful from it”. Okay??? Does Aster get profit, or..?)
Anyway, they start to read from the beginning, and that's when the actual Backstory starts, with the motion-comic visuals.
Tumblr media
Aster was a very quiet and unremarkable kid. Even at social gatherings, all the other kids seemed to ignore him. He tried to be like everybody else, to fit in — that didn't work. He tried to be UNlike everybody else, but that didn't work either. He almost lost all hope to be liked by someone, anyone. But then he realized, that people start to like you when you help out. So, help out he did! It was minor everyday stuff, like getting a kitten down from the tree, or helping an old lady cross the street. Unfortunately… he soon realized another thing — yes, people seem to like him when he helps out, but… then they just smile and wave. And leave. Forgetting the good he did the next day. (We felt SO BAD for Aster, whyyyyy)
That made him think… If these small acts of kindness go unnoticed, then he has to do something so good, so heroic, that it would get everyone's attention. He's going to become a hero, and he's gonna do that by defeating a villain. The only thing is… Aster wanted to find a villain who's not completely harmless, but not too scary either (because he's a coward). So his best shot would be to create a villain of his own (This is all still kid!Aster, by the way). And after digging through a lot of books, he found a way — the Magical Scroll, the pact of peace that contains the powers of dark fairytales. This was it!
And so began his plan. Aster prepared as he grew older, until he was ready to become a grad student and an apprentice to Professor Stargazer. The young man waited a bit, to let the trust settle in, and then he striked — stealing the Magical Scroll, creating a replica, using the feather to release and gather the dark powers into a crystal. Aster already fantasized about becoming the hero. Everyone cheering for him, getting autographs and interwievs from him, idolizing him. And then Vasilisa Vasiliyevna would shake his hand and make Aster her vice-principal..!
Tumblr media
The only thing he didn't account for… was his plan could fail. Thus ends the first chapter of his book (and, basically, the episode).
TDLR: Aster isn't racist, he's just a coward with hero syndrome who never had any friends. What he did was still very wrong, though.
Tumblr media
And there you have it, folks! If you read it all ‘till the end, we hope you enjoyed it! We know we enjoyed yapping about our favorite character into the void, haha 😁
