when hannibal first meets will, he instantly reads him to a letter and will's response to that was to bristle and lash out. such a sharp contrast to when will profiles the ripper during that lecture and hannibal watches completely awed and impressed. he even whispers 'brilliant' under his breath.

i think it's so telling how both hannibal and will wear masks, build this elaborate persona for the world to perceive but... where hannibal wears his person suit, as a challenge - he builds his walls with a sliver of hope that someday someone could climb them and fully see him - will wears his as a protection from the dark and ugly parts of him he's ashamed off.

hannibal hopes to be seen and understood, he even dares to ache for it but will fears this, he doesn't like what's inside him so he locks it up not as a challenge but for precaution .

Forever thinking about the fact that Hannibal took tailored shirts with Will's initials with him to Florence. When he drugged Will in Dolce and dressed him in that neat white shirt? That shirt had Will's initials in it. It was tailored. It was Hannibal's apartment they got dressed at. Just imagine Hannibal carrying clothes meant for Will with him for months, even though his plan of leaving together didn't work out. Like he still held onto the idea that it would happen. That Will would ever get to wear those clothes...
