Can you believe that there are people who live so close to the ocean that they can just think “hey, I should go to the ocean” and then they just do???

“Sometimes I think of you, Medusa. Inside your temple, mournful, surrounded by a hundred stone statues. The men who came to kill you and never left were named lost heroes, warriors, demigods whilst you were called monster, gorgon, terror. (Because the stories were always written by men) But this was never a story about a monster. It was always about a woman burned for a Sea God’s sin, a pawn in an ancient game the fates would never let her win. You did not desecrate that which is sacred, it was him. (But your story was always written by men) You begged him not to visit you, you pleaded with every God. But the Gods turned away when you needed them. You did not want to be remembered this way. And then one day, whilst you slept, a son of Zeus came. And killed you before you could even look his way. (And he too was named hero because the stories were always written by men) Someone once said, words cut deeper than a knife. That history is told by the victors. That he who tells the story is the one who controls the world. Women did not get to write your story, Medusa. Because if we did, a very different tale would be told. (And in our tale, you would not be Monster. But Priestess. Goddess. A maiden who once had a heart of gold.)”

everyone gives annabeth a lot of shit for being angry at percy for spending more time with rachel before the war, and yeah she didn’t express it well, but imagine living with the knowledge that your best friend in the world has 3 months left to live and he doesn’t want to spend it with you.

Strap in boys; we’re in for a ride.
I was going to make a headcanon that Percy and Annabeth’s love language is physical touch, but there’s actually a lot of textual evidence to suggest that this is canon?? Or if not their primary love language, it’s at least high on the list. A lot of their most memorable, intimate moments happen without dialogue (or with minimal dialogue), with them just being there for each other and comforting one another with their presence. The first most prominent example is when Percy holds Annabeth as she cries into his shoulder in SoM. Another moment that I really love (but isn’t mentioned much by the fandom) is this moment in BoTL:
Tumblr media
And of course who can forget the most iconic Percabeth scene of the same book—their kiss at Mt. St. Helens. Instead of trying to articulate her feelings to him, Annabeth’s instinct was to kiss him, to show physical affection. What’s more, Percy does the EXACT SAME THING in BoO. I’m sure everyone remembers Percy’s line of “The rivalry ends here,” but what comes first is a kiss. His first instinct, like Annabeth, is to show physical affection. It’s only after this that he’s able to put his thoughts into words. But let’s backtrack because I just jumped way too far ahead in the series. Returning to TLO, Percy survives his dip into the Styx by a //physical// connection to Annabeth—taking her hand. After Percy tells Annabeth where his weak spot is, we get this adorable line, “She removed her hand, but I kept holding it.”
I’m not going to go through every Percabeth moment and how it relates to their love language because that could fill a book, but here are some highlights I’d like to point out post-PJO:
-Annabeth’s first instinct is to hold Percy’s hand when she’s scared
-Percy and Annabeth are suspended over the depths of literal hell, and they are able to stay together by literally holding on to one another
-Annabeth nestles her head onto Percy’s shoulder and he puts an arm around her and kisses her head in MC, demonstrating that when they’re comfortable, their natural instinct is to lean on one another (also that they’re freaking adorable)
Now, I’d like to make sure to clarify that I’m NOT saying Percy and Annabeth’s relationship is solely based on physical attraction. In fact, that really has nothing to do with the love language of physical touch. Love language is, unsurprisingly, how a person expresses their love. Percy and Annabeth have a complex, deeply rooted love, trust, and respect for one another that goes far beyond physical attraction. I’m simply trying provide evidence that the way they frequently show their affection is through physical touch (and though some of the scenes aren’t direct examples of physical touch as a love language, they do show how Percy and Annabeth’s love/connection is constantly represented through physical imagery or metaphors. Also, you could definitely make a solid case for acts of service or quality time, but that’s a post for another day.
Anyways, thanks for coming to my Ted Talk. Let me know if you want more rambling analysis of Percy Jackson or Percabeth LMAO

Strap in boys, this one’s gonna be a long one. People like to say that Percy is an oblivious guy who doesn’t notice a lot, usually when it comes to love/crushes, but that just isn’t true. It’s not that he doesn’t notice someone’s flirting with him, he just can’t imagine anyone liking him in that way, so he dismisses it as “oh, they’re just being nice” or “they’re probably like that to everyone” or it registers but doesn’t even cross his mind as something that could possibly be romantic. PJO is told in Percy’s perspective, presumably written by him (as Greek Gods and Monsters made him canonically a writer). If he never noticed these things, they simply wouldn’t have been included in the books. We know for a fact he struggles with his self-esteem (I will be referencing things from the Percy Jackson Characterization Masterpost by emilyvidosa on Tumblr, you can find a complete detailed account there). Gabe abused him, both physically and verbally, which meant he grew up being treated like and told he was worthless. He also believed his dad didn’t want him and was bullied in school. Cut to SOM where we learn that he also has insecurities about his physical appearance. He constantly wonders, either aloud or in his narration, why people like him and why he’s anything special. (He’s also kinda suicidal but it’s just,,, never addressed??) Here’s a brief list of examples:
“What’s so great about me? A dyslexic, hyperactive boy with a D+ report card, kicked out of school for the sixth time in six years.” -TLT
“He felt like a fraud. ‘I’m not as great as you think,’ he wanted to warn his friends. His failures, like tonight, seemed to prove it.” -MOA
“It should’ve been me.” -about Bianca’s death
“I felt like drowning myself.” -TLT
“The last thing I remembered was sinking in a burning sea... and wishing I were able to drown.” -SOM
“Thing is, as I was choking just now, I kept thinking: this is payback for Akhlys. The fates are letting me die the same way I tried to kill that goddess. And... honestly, a part of me felt I deserved it.” -BOO
“‘I know you.’ [Annabeth] said. And you like me anyway? Percy wanted to ask, but he held it back.” -from HOO, not sure which book
So, yeah, no wonder he dismisses flirtations made towards him, even though literally everyone he meets falls in love with him. He can’t understand why in the world anyone would like him. Annabeth had to kiss him before he started taking his suspicions that she liked him seriously. Let’s cut this guy some slack and not write him off as a silly guy who’s so carefree he doesn’t realize when he’s being crushed on.

You mean so ANNABETH can say fuck like, once, and Percy can be like "Monkeyfeathers, Beth! You can't say that word, Chiron will ground you!" when they first meet and in the end he's all like "I fucking hate this fucking bullshit. The gods are such fuckers. You hear me, Zeus? I said you're a FUCKER!" and Annabeths just standing there, shaking her head, of course agreeing with him but still thinking to herself "what have I done..."

hi ive been seeing posts that say annabeth is toxic, so here are my opinions on why she isnt. all opinions are valid but this is what i personally believe.
1. in response to the argument that she “constantly belittles percy” -> when they were younger she would tease him. they were k i d s. as they got older she picked on him significantly less, and even when she did it was in good nature. besides, in the first book where the most “belittling” is, she thinks percy is supposed to be her enemy and is thus conflicted when she realizes that hes a good person. theyre tweleve. these are big emotions for little kids. this was how she delt with it, and again, im aware that throughout the course of the books percy has a poor image of himself in his head but he knows that annabeth is his friend and he teases her back from time to time. i tease my friends, that doesnt make me toxic.
2. in response to the concept that the nickname “seaweed brain” is toxic -> its just a nickname??? my friends call me things way worse than that in a JOKING manner. hes a child of posiden thus the seaweed?? he also calls thalia “pinecone face” in the titans curse and he doesnt get backlash for that?? chill out, its just a nickname and more often than not she uses it lovingly.
3. in response to the idea that the judo-flip was abusive-> dude i can GUARANTEE you that rick was just trying to be funny and gain a laugh out of the readers, but beyond that she didnt know that he no longer had the curse of achilles and she had SO many emotions that she was dealing with that she reacted in a way that was uncalled for but honestly i dont blame her because he wasnt upset and laughed about it and also they’re literally demigods so there’s no doubt in my mind that they spar against eachother and occasionally one of them is going to get hurt. that doesnt mean that hurting the other was intentional or that they love the other any less
4. percy’s history with abuse-> percy watched sally struggle through a toxic relationship and experienced the abuse, both mental and physical, firsthand. if annabeth was doing something that he wasnt okay with, he would tell her and he wouldnt stand for it.
5. the idea that annabeth “dragged him into tartaurus with her”-> this one is personally appalling to me and while i havent seen it but maybe once im still going to adress it. the fall was HIS choice. she told him to let go, but he loved her so much that he would rather have died than leave her side again. they had been through so much trauma together that the thought of letting his girlfriend die alone was unplausable to percy, whose fatal flaw is literally personal loyalty. he was not dragged down, he chose to be with her.
6. my personal experience with toxic relationships-> i personally have never been with a toxic or abusive partner but i have watched people in my life struggle through these types of things and for a long time when i was younger percy and annabeth were one of the only couples who i could look up to (cheesy and sad, i know). i never once thought of annabeth as toxic, or that she loved percy any less than he loved her. they, among other fictional couples as well as my friends parents, were what i saw as a model relationship and i knew that if i ever were to get into a relationship it should be one like theirs that was full of love and support. these characters and their relationships taught me alot and i hope to have a love like theirs one day
again, these are MY opinions and im not trying to invalidate anyone elses but this is what i believe, please be kind and mature if you choose to respond.
